Video: O’Reilly on JetKosBlue Update: Kos crows? Update: Kos eats crow

Nicely done, O’Reilly! And to the boss too, for smoking this story out and staying with it to the finish.
One thing about this annoys me, though. O’Reilly applauds JetBlue’s decision to step back from the Kos “Screw them” precipice as he should, but then says he’ll highlight right-wing hate later on in this show. He did, and it turned out to be Rev. Fred Phelps. Who, I’ll point out one more time, is a Democrat who supported Gore in 1988 and ran for office as a Democrat multiple times. The guy was pro-Saddam long before it became fashionable among the leftwingers like Jim McDermott and the mixed bowl of nutroots who think Scott Ritter is worth listening to. Phelps is on the right? Right-leaning presidential candidates visit the YearlyPhelps convention? Phelps exercises message discipline among the right’s blogger shock troops?
No. Fred Phelps is fringe nutbar, politically all over the place, and with absolutely no influence on the blogs of the right whatsoever (or on the left either). There simply is no parallel between DailyKos, which gets 14 million hits a month, does have presidential candidates attending its convention (with her internet chairman posting the announcement directly on DailyKos) and which does exercise message discipline among leftwing bloggers, and space cadet lunatic Fred Phelps. None. Zip. Nada. The Factor really needs to set the record straight on this.
Oh, and there’s this: JetBlue’s logo is still on the YearlyKos page as a sponsor. Have they really backed out of the YK, or did they just make up a story to get O’Reilly off their backs?
Update: JetBlue may yet be JetKos.
In short, that dynamic duo (O’Reilly and Michelle) triumphantly claimed that O’Reilly — the most powerful man in the universe in his own mind — forced airline carrier JetBlue to pull its sponsorship of the YearlyKos conference.
But go to the YearlyKos convention website, and you’ll note the JetBlue logo is still there, on the home page. And I’ve confirmed that yes, indeed, JetBlue isn’t going anywhere. They don’t plan on caving to pressure from the neanderthals at Fox News.
Remember, this fight is about Fox News’ hurt feelings. They wanted Democrats to legitimize their propaganda operation and we squashed those efforts like a bug. This is their way of lashing back, yet no one seems to give a shit. The Dodd and Hillary campaigns used the opportunity to slam Bill O’Reilly and his usual band of misfits. And despite their premature crowing, JetBlue — the chief target of their ire — isn’t going anywhere.
Now, it’s true that JetBlue’s logo has been moved down into the “In-Kind Sponsors” category. But here’s an interesting bit. If you click on that logo on the YK page, you get taken to a JetBlue reservations page. Check out the URL.

It’s the “source=yearlykos” part that intrigues me. The site obviously is tracking who comes to the JetBlue reservations page via YearlyKos. The question is, does that tracking URL work like Amazon’s does and put a cut of the revenue that the link generates into an account for the YearlyKos? If it does, then JetBlue is more than just an in-kind sponsor, dontcha think?
Update: The logo is now gone from the YK site. Bu-bye. The Kossack chieftain is not amused. So unamused was he that he wrote an intemperate post on the subject and then apparently deleted said post. Quoted down in the comments, here’s part of what it said.
JetBlue is embarrassed to be associated with you. They are afraid to be seen with you. They don’t want to have anything to do with you. They would rather be seen with Fox News — whose TV programs they broadcast on their planes, than with you.
Of course, if JetBlue is embarrassed to be seen with me, I have no choice but to cut them off. My recommendation to the YearlyKos organization was to return the 10 tickets. I certainly will never fly them again.
It looks like it’s a bad day to be Kos.
Update: Psst. JetBlue. Over here–one more logo to kill.
Update: It’s official, from the chieftain himself–“JetBlue caved.”

Bill is still trying to figure out the difference between http and HTML and gets confused.
A more apt “right wing hater” online model, to oppose to “hater Kos“, would be… um… uh…. er….
…anybody?
(Maybe some guy with a single blogger page, having a title like DEMOCRATRAITORWHORES, and getting three hits a year?)
Phelps is just a handy cartoon, but Kos is the real bile.
profitsbeard on July 19, 2007 at 11:36 PM
If Phelps is right-wing, then he’s gone so far right that he’s come ’round the other side and is on the left now. Oh, and that stinking B@ST@RD had the nerve and gall to call my sister a witch once upon a time!
Shameless plug for my sister…

A little to the left (the black sheep of the family) but really funny!
Frozen Tex on July 20, 2007 at 8:44 AM
I think we should claim Felps on the extreme right. He balances out Rosie and the rest of the nut bags and helps shift the perceived political center to the right. Next to him, the rest of us are seen as the moderates we are and that strengthens the conservative as the ideological center.
csdeven on July 20, 2007 at 9:11 AM
O’Reilly tries SO hard to appear “balanced” that it’s almost comical at this point. Even if Phelps was a righty, there was no reason to “balance” the Jetblue story – it stands very nicely on its own. Bill is approaching background noise status…
JWS on July 20, 2007 at 9:20 AM
You’re right on this point, of course.
But then again … I’ll bet Kos himself wasn’t exactly pleased with the choice of comparison. O’Reilly basically called them the same sort of “fringe nutbar.”
Arguably not even fair to Kos, and Phelps has nothing to do with the Right, or the blogosphere.
But putting them in the same strata of moral equivalence? C’mon. That’s pretty funny.

Markos Moulitas is still claiming victory.
aunursa on July 20, 2007 at 9:28 AM
Exactly right, Bryan! Thank you.
O’Reilly has his facts all mixed up. Again. That’s what happens when one has their interns doing most of their research.
Phelps represents nobody, right or left, he only represents himself.
Lawrence on July 20, 2007 at 9:29 AM
I’m not sure I’d get too upset about BOR and the Phelps family. Phelps is not on the right side of anything and is just waiting to get beamed up. O’Reilly feels obligated to show fairness, otherwise his status as an Independent goes down the tubes. He’s thrown David Duke out as an example, too.
There are a few individuals here and there who are extreme, but not entire right wing groups/websites.
It would be interesting and possibly downright amusing, however, to get Bill’s reaction to Phelp’s Dem affiliations.
Connie on July 20, 2007 at 9:33 AM
I knew I could count on HotAir to set the record straight on this. When Bill said Phelps was a right winger I screamed at my TV “He’s not on the Right! He’s a whackjob who isn’t even on the scale!” Anybody who hates the U.S. Military is NOT a Righty. But I guess Bill thinks that because “Rev. Phelps” claims to be a man of God. Well, so does Rev. Jackson! I think Bill did this on purpose just to later say “We were wrong, there are no Righty hate groups on the Net.” Next, he’ll try to claim (just for the sake of being balanced) that the Klan has a website and they’re a right wing hate group, only to be reminded of the Klan’s Democrat history.

I wonder if John Campanelli knows that News Corps owns Photobucket?
Connie on July 20, 2007 at 9:47 AM
Well, at least he’s calling it “the Internet” instead of “that Internet thing.”
Tennman on July 20, 2007 at 9:51 AM
Apparently all the yearlykosconvention did was switch JetBlue from the “Sponsors” category to the “In-Kind Donors” category. Nothing changed about JetBlue’s support of the event.
What really bothers me is that the National Education Association (NEA) is a sponsor! (stating the obvious…)These are the people teaching children in America’s public schools. I think we should be far more up in arms about the NEA’s sponsorship of yearlykos than about a business’ support of it. You can choose what airline you use to fly, but families without the means to send their kids to private school (or the desire/ability to homeschool) don’t have a choice about who teaches their kids in public school. What clearer proof of the NEA’s left-wing bias could there be than their support of the yearlykosconvention?

Nevertheless, I still do not do business with businesses who are blatantly against my own ideology. Just the way I am…..my dollars go to business who either shut up or are with me…period. JetBlue can screw…the damage is done.

I sent an email to JetBlue on Monday regarding the KO’s issue. Here’s their response:
Total BS. There’s no way Dave Barger was unaware of KO’s existence until this story broke. Particularly given the fact that George Soros is a beneficial shareholder and they have to have a personal relationship.
If he had left out the part about his ignorance of KO’s, I might have given him props for a decent response. But, to lay it off on a “marketing decision” and then deny knowledge of KO’s is a bit much.
BacaDog on July 20, 2007 at 11:01 AM
Fred Phelps is Right Wing?
What the heck?
He hates the military!!
Is Bill suggesting that just because Freddie the Freak claims what he is does is Biblically inspired that he is Right Wing?
C’Mon Bill, don’t make us scrutinize you.
I agree that hate exists on all sides, it’s a human emotion. The difference is that the Left in America has little to no logic, reason or facts to leverage in any debate, so Hate is their natural weapon.

A bad day to be Kos is a good day for America.
And I love how that punk accuses O’Reilly of thinking he’s
and then says
Pot, kettle, etc. Apparently JetBlue refused to kiss his ring after all. But if he spent more time with normal Americans and less with the screaming nutroots, he’d be used to people being embarrassed to be seen with him by now.
ReubenJCogburn on July 20, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Hey Kilgore, did Kos write that post that’s now deleted? Just wondering.
Bryan on July 20, 2007 at 1:30 PM
It’s not completely gone yet. This is like watching a preschooler gradually inch toward the truth about something. You have to keep questioning and probing, but you keep finding little bits of untruth. (It’s gone! Well, not really. Yes, now it’s gone. Actually, it’s over here. Okay, now it’s really, really gone. Then what’s this?) Eventually the truth comes out, but it’s excruciatingly painful for all the parties to get there!
lan astaslem on July 20, 2007 at 1:35 PM
First he talks about Bill O’Reilly refusing to fly JetBlue, and dismisses it as an empty threat.

That’s what Kos gets for pretending to be Big Daddy Big Britches while still using words like “shit” in his blog posts.
Perhaps someone should remind Kos that companies advertise on networks that people actually watch. You know, like Fox News and not CBS or NBC.
BKennedy on July 20, 2007 at 2:05 PM
I strongly disagree with both O’Reilly and Michelle on this one.
I think Roger Simon got it right over at Pajamas Media. A poster over there named Kaelri explained Daily Kos and quite frankly I am sure O’Reilly hasn’t a real clue about the site, which another poster said seems to be much like RedState.

Knowing Bill, it went over his head and he went for the typical red meat angle for ratings.

Pick em off one at a time:
American Federation of Teachers, teaching your children to be foulmouthed.
Teamsters: All of the truck drivers and dock workers, loving the Kos kids. All those Viet nam vets driving our roads and doing the tough work (work that Americans don’t want to do?) supporting people who want their fellow servicemen dead, and illegals to take their jobs.
Afl-Cio: All of those auto workers, supporting Kos socialists and Kos kids against the big auto plants. Hating the autos and all they spew. And of course; supporting illegals to take their jobs.
If I was union, I would be having a fit…my money supporting people who want to destroy the companies that employ me.
Teachers supporting the filth that is displayed by Kos. Great roll models teachers. Supporting making illegals legal and giving them free tuition. I wonder why our education program is so screwed up. Oh, and move over other (read black) minorities, we need money for the illegal immigrants. Guess the blacks will just have to make do with a little less money for the inner city schools. That’s ok, blacks will vote Democrat anyway. It’s the illegal vote that they need. Looks like it is back to the back of the bus again.

My thoughts almost exactly… here’s the email I wrote him right after watching last night:
As for the Kos Kaptain posting, deleting, whining like a baby. That was freakin’ hilarious! I don’t even want to blockquote just one part, it was all classic.
The up side? I may just be able to fly Jet Blue! They are hugely popular here, as they’re the only low cost carrier out of Burlington, and the savings is massive. While there may be some caving for PR reasons, I think it’s also likely they didn’t know what went on at Kos in the first place. I don’t think they were some big fans and chose to sponsor them… as it it, am I right in stating that all they did was donate 10 tix? At any rate, they made good and I think I’ll cut them slack, especially because it pisses of the Kids.
RightWinged on July 20, 2007 at 3:50 PM
Aw, the Kossacks are whinging and cutting off their support of JetBlue. Considering how much influence Kos and his Kiddies had on the elections (i.e. none), JetBlue has nothing to worry about.
JinxMcHue on July 20, 2007 at 4:07 PM
Can’t you just picture that chinless puke gritting his teeth and screaming into the monitor. Seeing this guy I can safely assume he got abused pretty routinely in the military and thus his willingness to hate them now.
You know, I bet Ned has plenty of money to buy tickets. Why not hit him up, since you did so much for his political career.
Ah, screw ‘em!

They un-caved
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 5:13 PM
I wouldn’t characterize that as un-caving. JetBlue said all along that having given out the tickets, they wouldn’t ask for them to be returned. But their logos are off the YK site, meaning the public sponsorship has been yanked. And I’m sure we’ll hear about it if a JetBlue banner turns up at YK.
Bryan on July 20, 2007 at 5:28 PM
The biggest morons, and deserving to lose clients from the left and the right, are at JetBlue.
If I’d own any company which provides services, of any kind, or sells gadgets, of any kind, and marketing would even remotely think of coming up with siding with one or the other political ad/issue, I’d fire them all on the spot. It would only take one such doing.
It is inconceivable how stupid people in business can be, and how subversive. Goes for the MSM in the longer run too.
Entelechy on July 20, 2007 at 5:31 PM
Well, wasn’t that the sponsorship, free tickets? Seems to me dKos has it completely right, “the sponsorship remains, but they are too afraid to let anyone know…” If caving means, just don’t use our logo, I’d say that’s better characterized as simple cowardliness.
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 5:44 PM
Killgore, before you go nuts – read how the silly site works – from the poster named Kaelri over at Roger’s blog at Pajama Media -
I’d like to explain a bit about how the Daily Kos actually works, to those who might not be entirely clear.
Most blogs are run by a small group of like-minded writers. Their ideas and actions represent the blog; they *are* the blog. Most allow the general public to post comments; some, such as Little Green Footballs, limit even that.
Kos is a bit different. Virtually anyone can register, and, after a short waiting period, post comments and “diaries” at will. New diaries are frequently controversial; even the ones that seem like they espouse “mainstream” liberal or progressive values almost always discussed and debated in the comments. Some diaries are even written in counterpoint to other diaries.
The point is that O’Reilly didn’t present a shred of evidence that the remarks he cited were in any way supported by either the community in general or its operators. I would guess that they were written by absolute nobodies in diaries that were virtually ignored by the rest of the site population. And even if the case is otherwise, it doesn’t change the fact that the Daily Kos’s content is generated by individuals, and it’s simply ludicrous to hold a their sponsors accountable for how a total John Doe decided to use their services.
You *can* make a case that Jet Blue shouldn’t be engaging in business deals that imply a political affiliation. But to call the Daily Kos some kind of bastion of extremist bile is like trying to smear Google because someone did a search for dirty bomb blueprints.
Roger Simon – 10
O’Reilly – 0
AprilOrit on July 20, 2007 at 5:44 PM
I’m with you. Business is business. Anything that alienates potential customers is pure stupidity unless it brings you more than you lose – then it’s a marketing strategy ;-)
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 5:47 PM
But to call the Daily Kos some kind of bastion of extremist bile is like trying to smear Google because someone did a search for dirty bomb blueprints.
Or smearing Free Republic because of that whacko Chad Castanga. All of these sites, including this one, get haters and nutbags from time to time.
It’s the nature of the beast.
AprilOrit on July 20, 2007 at 5:48 PM
TBOD, unless the business is to win votes, or sell political t-shirts and bumperstickers, etc., what other business would this be good for?
Entelechy on July 20, 2007 at 5:50 PM
And who goes to the conference? The people who participate in the site. So, who is Jet Blue sponsoring? The people who make those kinds of comments on a regular basis. This isn’t really that hard to understand is it?
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 5:51 PM
Well, selling firearms comes to mind. I’d say supporting Righty causes would help you more than it harms you in that case. If I sit and think about it for a while I can come up with a few more but probably not many.
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 5:54 PM
Which is why no business in their right minds should sponsor them unless they want to be associated with them and thereby endorse them. And, when they do, they deserve the heat that comes their way.
What do you think the MSM would do if a Corporation sponsored a LGF, FR or HA conference? The same thing O’Reilly did to JetBlue. O’Reilly and Fox simply level the playing field a little.
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2007 at 6:11 PM
