MSM on Napolitano’s “brilliance;” Hillary’s plunging neckline

posted at 1:00 pm on July 20, 2007 by Bryan

I’m going to give you two links. Don’t read either story shortly after eating. Like swimming, give yourself a good half hour or so before diving in.

First link: The Christian Science Monitor publishes a hagiography of AZ Gov. Janet Naplolitano. The story contains absolutely no criticism of the governor, but does point out that a liberal Democrat is having success in “Goldwater country.” Here’s my favorite line, which isn’t about Napolitano per se but is another of those “tells” like the Bill Richardson/Berlin Wall line.

Her success as a moderate mirrors the changing demographics in Arizona. Once a magnet for Midwesterners, which shifted its politics to the right, Arizona over the past two decades has seen an influx of many more immigrants from Latin America as well as Californians, who have liberalized the political climate.

And that’s why open borders types on the left favor open borders: They didn’t like the voting public, so they went and got a new one. And Goldwater country is no more. But read the whole piece to get the full extolation of Napolitano:

Her memory, like her intellect, is legendary.

You will never, ever see a line like that about, say, Newt Gingrich or any other conservative to whom it applies. You just won’t see it, at least not without the next line casting those qualities in a dark light: “And because of that, his grudges lasted decades, and the revenge he took on his enemies was always creative.”

Second link: The Washington Post’s Robin Givhan waxes poetic on Hillary Clinton’s cleavage.

There was cleavage on display Wednesday afternoon on C-SPAN2. It belonged to Sen. Hillary Clinton.

She was talking on the Senate floor about the burdensome cost of higher education. She was wearing a rose-colored blazer over a black top. The neckline sat low on her chest and had a subtle V-shape. The cleavage registered after only a quick glance. No scrunch-faced scrutiny was necessary. There wasn’t an unseemly amount of cleavage showing, but there it was. Undeniable…

With Clinton, there was the sense that you were catching a surreptitious glimpse at something private. You were intruding — being a voyeur. Showing cleavage is a request to be engaged in a particular way. It doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman is asking to be objectified, but it does suggest a certain confidence and physical ease. It means that a woman is content being perceived as a sexual person in addition to being seen as someone who is intelligent, authoritative, witty and whatever else might define her personality. It also means that she feels that all those other characteristics are so apparent and undeniable, that they will not be overshadowed.

Whatever. I don’t want to hear about Sen. Clinton’s cleavage. I just don’t. And if HRC were a Republican, she’d undoubtedly be getting the Jeri Thompson or Wendy Vitter treatment. But she’s a Democrat, so we get hack poetry paying homage to her boobs.

Besides that, isn’t Givhan straining just a tad? The screenshot that accompanies Givhan’s story is hardly “undeniable” in the cleavage department.

At her age, what cleavage?

Mazztek on July 20, 2007 at 1:05 PM

No one wants to see her hairy nips or sequoia like ankles

TheSitRep on July 20, 2007 at 1:06 PM

Janet Napolitano was deeply involved in the shenanigans in the Anita Hill affair, which is another reason the left loves her.

Please excuse the self-linkage.

Hillary is my down-image. I use her all the time. If I happen to be “excited” at an inopportune time/location, I just think of Hillary Clinton, and it goes right down. Some people use Baseball, Hillary works quicker. If it’s an emergency situation, then use Rosie O’Donnell, but beware that image lingers and you have the opposite problem for awhile.

Napolitano is a terrible Governor – she talks out of both sides of her mouth. She never takes a stand – just political pandering & talk, no action. Of course our paper here does all her bidding – the AZ Republic (very liberal). Last week she was meeting with the Sonoran gov’t discussing business relations – all under the radar & of course not reported on. All the while there is a war going on the border & Sonora is right in the middle of it. The Zeta’s are out of control & gaining strength. This will soon spill over into AZ & she will do nothing! She ordered our National Guard to the border – unarmed & doing support work – pushing paper, maintenance, etc. What the heck?! The lefties love her because she has grown Gov’t, all the while taking credit for good work our legislature does (Republican controlled) & of course the roaring economy thanks to tax-cuts. Hopefully a good strong conservative will run next election & put all her damage to rest. She is bringing AZ to look like a mini-CA with all their liberal mess & controls. Her main goal is to be Hillary’s Attorney General – God help us!

Paeans to Democrat pols on governance and a gulch.

HRC has long reminded me of Miss Gulch.

But with Bill defending her against the charge by Liz Edwards that HRC is acting like a man, wasn’t showing a little more skin the predictibly Clintonian response? It was probably focus-grouped.

Her memory, like her intellect, is legendary.

Papers, legal papers, what stinking legal papers. I put them down somewhere, I just don’t remember where, or what they were about. I’m sorry, I just don’t remember. Oh, you mean those on the dining room table, I forgot for a year or so thats where they were. I can’t remember every conversation.

right2bright on July 20, 2007 at 2:24 PM

And that’s why open borders types on the left favor open borders: They didn’t like the voting public, so they went and got a new one. And Goldwater country is no more.

The reason for that? Just like in California, Republicans rode the anti-illegal immigration sentiment for a time right into office, while never doing a single thing about the problem. Prop 187 was passed, and one judge was enough to get it thrown out. Where was our Republican governor on that one? Pete Wilson did nothing. Dick Riordan, the last Republican mayor of Los Angeles, did nothing to repeal special order number 40 or any of the other policies that welcomed illegals. So demography caught up to the Republican party here in California, and now New Mexico. The fatcats of the Republican party were just too busy getting rich to care what the standard Republican voter thought. And who is this standard voter? The lower to middle class working white male. That’s the Republican base: the man who has to compete against all this illegal labor.

Latinos are a voting monolith. Without fail, they vote 3:1 Democrat. Yes, Bush managed 39% in Texas, but that was a flash in the pan. And it still wasn’t the 44% that the party elite claimed.

Talk about over-analyzing.

No wonder these same nitwits looked at the Twin Towers collapsing and immediately concluded it was brought down by explosives planted by Bush/Cheney.

There’s no way she meant for that sweater to be so low cut. Not with that frumpy jacket.

I mean, she’s no fashion plate, but she’s not blind either.

Tanya on July 20, 2007 at 3:30 PM

Goldwater country is alive and well. It’s just that, like Goldwater himself did, Arizona has moderated some with age. As a native Arizonan who’s blue-shifted with the rest of the state I can tell you it doesn’t have anything to do with the Californians or the Latin American “immigrants” :
it’s the Republicans. Ev Meacham, Fife Symington, and Jane Hull. And, of course, George W. Bush.

Good for Ms. Napolitano, btw. She deserves the praise. I don’t always like her politics, but she’s smart, she at least cares more about Arizona than getting her cronies a good deal on an SUV, and she knows when to listen to her constituency (be they R, D, or I). If Hillary (shudder) manages to lose the next presidential election, Janet Napolitano has a great shot at being the first American to answer to “Madame President.” Which reminds me – please, please, please, nominate Rudy instead of Reagan Lite.

Hillary = a confident woman who projects her sexuality

Jeri Thompson = a slut and trophy wife.

BTW, Hillary needs a little more “assests” before she can form them into cleavage. She is not the most endowed woman around. She must have gone shopping for one of those “push ‘em together like a vice” bras in order to have something to show.

Ah, a reality-based comment. Arizona state politics are dominated by one very large city, which like all big cities is much more liberal/Dem than the rest of the state, and holds an estimated 61% of the state’s population. One city.

Napolitano is a product of Phoenix, in marked contrast to the rest of the state.

Jaibones on July 20, 2007 at 5:07 PM

“It means that a woman is content being perceived as a sexual person in addition to being seen as someone who is intelligent, authoritative, witty and whatever else might define her personality.”
Ahem…HRC is a-sexual, she leaves all those sweaty maneuvers to Billy Jeff. Methinks that this is in response to someone’s criticism, (I forget who), saying that she acts ‘like a man’.
Well, she does waddle like the huevos transplant took.

Christine on July 20, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Napolitano is, “smart?” You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve never heard anything more stupid than her getting in front of a group of school kids and answering a question about why gas prices are so high.

I call her Janet Veto, J.D. Hayworth calls her J-No. The state is doing well financially with her in office, only because of the reigns of the predominantly conservative R legislature. She pretends to care about illegal immigration, while at the same time she advocates driver’s licenses for illegals.

Every time she’s called on her failure to take care of a problem, she tries to blame the feds…or the local officials. Anything to avoid taking responsibility herself.

She’s an idiot.

Considering Hillary’s under-oath testimony included one hundred plus variations of “I don’t remember,” I guess we can’t say that about her, now can we?

As to why she engaged in a “peep” show, I would guess her image consultants thought it “softened” her image. You know, kind of “a divide-and-conquer” strategy.
