Mandela is Dylan, Kofi is George Harrison, Tutu is Tom Petty, and Jimmeh of course is Orbison.

Or is it the Springfield Retirement Castle road show? Carter is Abe Simpson, Mandela is Hans Moleman, Kofi is the guy with the long beard, and Desmond Tutu makes a special guest appearance as Gladys Skinner.

Hmm...I wonder if these Anti-Zion Elders have any Protocols that they follow.

Does this mean that our very noble, and seemingly unfortunate, Secret Service (and our taxes) are going to be trotting the globe with Jimmeh in his absolute moral endeavors?

Should we start arranging care packages and candlelight vigils for them?

I did find this on Sir Richard Branson in an article from the International Herald Tribune: Richard Branson forms a band of 'Elders' with Mandela, Carter, Tutu and others:

One of the group's founders and principal sponsors, the British tycoon Sir Richard Branson, said that those leaders whom he had briefed - including Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain and the South African president, Thabo Mbeki - "very much support the initiative."

"There will always be skeptics of any positive initiatives, but these are people giving up their time for nothing," he said of The Elders. "Most individuals in the world would welcome a group of people who are above ego, who, in the last 12 or 15 years of their lives, are above partisan politics."

How do you like that? Jimmy Carter is a man above ego and partisan politics?

The article goes on to say:

Later, after working on a concert for one of Mandela's charities, Branson flew home with Peter Gabriel, the British rock musician and human-rights activist. "I was talking about the need for a group of global elders to be there to rally around in times of conflict," he said, "and Peter said he'd had a similar idea, but using the global Internet to help elders relate to the world community."

The one man needed to complete this circus is clearly Shimon Peres. He'd beg to join, and give legitimacy to all the groups' threatening and condemnatory statements toward Israel. In fact, after the others unanimously call for Israel's destruction, and the killing of all jews, Peres will praise the dialogue as positive and say it offers new opportunities for Israel to re-open the peace process, release all terrorists, return more land and provide arms and money to "the moderates."

Ten “elders” eh? Or the Ten Horns on the beast???

ScottG on July 19, 2007 at 7:36 PM

An apt question!

They have a website that manages to be creepy and absurd at the same time.

I say it's time to declare Jimmy Carter a man without a country.

BTW, in the interest of following the money, I noticed these names listed as their supporters.

Richard Branson
Bridgeway Foundation
Michael Chambers
Ray Chambers
Peter Gabriel
Pam Omidyar (Humanity United)
Amy Robbins
Shashi Ruia
Dick Tarlow
The United Nations Foundation

This list apparently does not include them all. Underneath the names, it says:

The Elders is supported by Founders who will provide financial and other resources to ensure they can focus fully upon their mission. The Elders will also have a team advising them as they work together to create unique approaches to global issues.

Anyone know anything about these people?

Personally, I vote for:

Captain Ignorance and the Korruption Kommandos.

(The "K"s make them seem more bad-ass while simultaniously referencing Kofi Annan.)

Not to mention the good vocal effect the Hard C's and K's give you when you say it with an "Announcer voice". Go ahead, give it a try.

Mary Robinson was voted President of Ireland in good faith and she left before the end of her term to join some pointless UN group. It was a spit in the face to those of us who voted for her. She's since dedicated her life to anti-semitism.
