Oh, I left out that the REAL major factor in the rise of oil prices is the glut of personally owned vehicles in China since they relaxed their nationalistic hold on life a wee bit. Plain old supply and demand on a massive human scale in the Far East.

You obviously missed my sarc tag. Yes, the way money movers play the game, they force the dollar down whenever the U.S. economy is strong. The high oil prices are NOT that closely indexed to the dollar, however, but production rates out of the OPEC countries. Those prices are international, not American.

I liked Lieberman's line about the cots waking up the senators. Hatch was very good also.
So the Dims threw a slumber party for Kos, CPinko, and the press. Got them their attention, and nothing else. Dingy Harry throws a hissy fit, takes his ball and tells everyone to go home. But not before saying "We spent two days showing America we'd fight this. How can we shrink from this fight?" Try letting a guy that you approved to do a job, do that job, without your politicized BS.
One more thing. This was no all nighter. Back in the day Teddy K could do an all nighter. One thing he could have done was give some tips.

Harry Reid has lost even the appearance of respect from other Senators.

Yesterday on the Senate floor John McCain rose in opposition to the Reid/Levin amendment and said “I respect Senator Levin”. His feelings for Reid were left dangling.

This Morning Senator Spector dropped all pretence of comity and described Senator Reid as “rude and dictatorial”. There was more of course, and it was provoked.

Ah yes, the greatest governing body in the world.
Sorry world that was rude.

America has a problem: Democrats run the Senate by a very slim majority (1 vote). And the are running a scam by claiming that somehow this 1 vote majority is a mandate to surrender to Al Qaeda.

These following comments, tell the story.

"having failed to get his up or down vote, Reid throws a tantrum by yanking the entire defense policy bill from the floor."

It is my hope that this crook be indicted and frogmarched from the capitol building for bribe taking. But until he is, HE controlls the what bills are considered, what bills get advanced from committee, and HE is the bossman of the cut and run strategy of surrender to the Islamofascists in the Senate.

“Help us bring an end to this war," says Traitor Dick Durbin. This is just one of the items that mark Durbin as a man that must be removed when he runs for reelection. His far left, anti-military, agenda is reinforced because he is the number 2 man in the Senate. He really is a loathsome toad whom you can depend upon to undermine the war at every opportunity.

However, he's up for reelection next year. If the "Stupid Party," as some of us in Illinois call the Republicans, can't use his calling the military "Nazi death camp guards," etc., and his other anti-military hate speech to toss his ass out of office, they deserve to be out in the cold.

I swear to God, the Illinois Republican Party leadership has fecal matter for brains. They had a strong candidate in Jim Ryan (millionaire ex husband of actress Jeri Ryan) who ran for and got the nomination for Senate opposite Barry Hussein Osama, er, Obama. His divorce from Jeri was "messy" and contentious. Charges of misconduct were made, as sometimes happen when high-priced ambulance chasers operate to justify their big fees.

So the party leaders threw Ryan under the bus when it was brought to light and brought in Alan Keyes, WHO DOESN'T EVEN LIVE IN ILLINOIS, and put him on the ballot. Keyes, perceived by just about everyone as a carpetbagger and a loon, lost big time to the very unknown Barry Hussein Osama (Obama).

In other words, because of the stupid party's leadership, an unqualified, ultraliberal, do-nothing, KNOW-NOTHING, assclown became a "Senator," and the "darling" of the Traitor Party who is running for the nomination for president.

And just to prove that the stupidity wasn't a fluke, last year, running against an incumbant Democratic governor that even a good portion of Democrats couldn't stand, they nominate a party hack, Judy Bar Topinka, and then refuse to fund her early enough to counter 9 months of dirty ads run by Rod Blagojevich, who was sitting on nearly 10 million dollars of campaign contributions gleaned, some say, illegally in "pay to play" extortion.

The Stupid Party lost that election, too.

Well, in 2008, they have the opportunity to use Durbin's ultra liberal, anti-military statements against him. They have the Jay Rockerfeller memo that former Democratic Senator Zell Miller says is either treason or its first cousin to use against him. They have his votes to DEFUND the troops, and his ultraliberal gun hating policies, and the fact that he's Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley's b*itch in Washington. And they have the fact, that if it wasn't for Chicago and East St. Louis (both vote fraud havens), Illinois would be an overwhelmingly RED STATE.

Until the current Stupid Party leadership took over, Illinois' political legacy was REPUBLICAN Senators and Governors. But they pissed it all away and ran loser hacks, crooks, and carpetbaggers against Durbin, Blagojevich, and Osama (Obama).

If they run true to form, they'll blow this election, too.

I don't know what it is going to take, but we must unelect Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Russ Feingold (Wisconsin), among others, and a few RINOs, from the Senate. If we don't, the liberal Traitor Party will increase it's strangle hold and it won't matter who is president. Their work product will be Socalialsm and surrender to the Islamofascists.

End of rant....

Gas prices are still too high though, so this must be the worst economy in 50 years. And the left will believe it, in the face of all facts to the contrary.

Freelancer on July 18, 2007 at 1:15 PM

gas prices are more a function of the price of the dollar than the economy. the current price of oil is a function of the dollar's decline, investor speculation and some inflation in the oil itself. We are above the 5 year avg of supply in oil reserves. Yet the price is $75.00/bl. the $ has lost about 20% of its vaule over this time. So about $10.00-15.00 of the increase is due to the decline in the dollar. $10-15.00 is due to speculation. And about $20.00 is due to the growth of the world economy.

Ron Paul sermonizing about how our status in Iraq is going to hurt the dollar, the day after the Dow crosses 14K for the first time. Brilliant. We've been there for more than 4 years now, if the economy was going to tank because of it, that day would have been in the rear-view mirror by now.

I can still recall the libs crying that we can't afford BOTH a war in Iraq and tax cuts. And yet, in spite of massive illegal immigration and unchecked government fraud at all levels, unemployment is at record lows and the economy is rock solid.

<blockquote>What…no photo ops of those who used the cots?</blockquote>

Forget about who used them. I want to know how many federal dollars were involved in having the staff dragging those cots out of storage and setting them up. I want to know how many dollars were spent on overtime for security personnel, staffers, etc. All because Harry Reid wanted to through a temper tantrum for the media.

P.S. It would be one thing if there were any chance of something happening by doing this BUT the outcome was a foregone conclusion so the entire event was a big waste of time designed to prove the anti-military bias to the moonbats.

<blockquote>Update: Our crap politics — having failed to get his up or down vote, Reid throws a tantrum by yanking the entire defense policy bill from the floor.</blockquote>

Good, after Ted "I ran away while Mary Jo drowned" Kennedy snuck that crapistic hate speech amendment in it wasn't worth passing anyways.

<blockquote>The enemy of this Republic is the modern Democratic party, and they will stop at nothing, ally themselves to anyone and allow the death of millions to get power and keep it.

Why do people vote for these idiots?

Hening on July 18, 2007 at 10:17 AM</blockquote>

It doesn't say much for the electorate, does it? Consider:

- In any election about half of eligible voters can't even be roused to vote. Every election the campaigns start earlier, and spend more money, and the result is the same.

- Of the approximate half of the population that does vote, a sizeable chunk of them are woefully uninformed about the key issues of the day. This is especially true of the donkey base, whose "identity politics" encourages them to simply pull the levers reflexively: labor unions, teachers' unions, blacks, the moonbat crowd ... they don't need to actually "know" anything about the issues to know who they're going to vote for.

To a donk supporter, the pathetic narcissism and ridiculous ineffectiveness of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, or the bigotry of Keith Ellison and Robert Byrd, or the hypocrisy of John Edwards and John Kerry, or the sociopathic dishonesty of Bill & Hill, or the brazen corruption of William Jefferson, Dianne Feinstein and Marion Berry, or the malicious slandering of the troops by Dennis Kucinich and John Murtha, or the idiocy of Joe Biden, Patrick Kennedy and Barbara Boxer, or the intemperance and drunken lecherousness of Ted Kennedy ... <em>matters not at all</em>.

For donkey voters, what matters about their preferred candidates has nothing to do with who they are, what they believe, or what they do and what they say; <em>what counts is that they have the "right" enemies: i.e., Republicans.

Check of proof: Despite a 14% approval rating for Congress, I've seen a recent survey which indicated that generic approval ratings for donkeys are still better than 50%, while those for Republicans are around 35%. Donkeys scored higher in confidence ratings for every single category, including national defense, the economy and immigration.

This kind of result is only possible if the 50%+ of respondents who approve of donkeys in general have absolutely no clue about who and what it is that they're approving of, and don't care that they don't know. This is how the term, "Yellow-dog democrat" came about in the first place:

</em><em>"If there's a choice between a Republican and a yellow dog, you vote for the yellow dog."</em>
