New Hot Air campaign ad: www.deportthemnow.com

posted at 7:26 am on July 18, 2007 by Michelle

Please watch our new public service announcement for a grass-roots campaign to pressure the government to deport criminal aliens now–and then sign up to help us at www.deportthemnow.com. We’ll be doing a series of PSAs based on Patterico’s excellent series spotlighting the thugs who have benefited from the criminal alien revolving door. Enough is enough. Time to act.

Update (MM): Check out my column on the campaign here.

I just signed up.
Patterico is right – this is a no-brainer. My only concern is that once deported, these creeps will still be able to cross over again. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing illegals serve their jail time before deportation provided there was no possibility for parole. Maximum sentance, no parole.
That might break Chertoff’s heart(broken families and all that), but until we get the border secure, I think it’s rational.
Anyway, Bryan, Michelle, Allah – you guys are fighting the good fight on this and I’m proud of you.

I’m 5 years into this and am not ready to stop now. With the names of 600,000 absconders already in a database, finding them should not be that difficult. I would like to make a suggestion, already stated by others a number of times, however I think it needs to be stated again. We fought the amnesty legislation right at the top. To be effective this time, I think we need to start locally, moving up to the state level, then our Representatives and Senators. Make this an issue in the next presidential election(already being done). The previous reform efforts pulled at too many heart strings, but this is a righteous cause without a doubt.

captivated_dem on July 18, 2007 at 9:19 AM

Great idea!

We need to remind our elected officials that we can do this despite what spineless Chertoff says. Where’s Ike when we need him? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wetback

We have done it. We can do it. Let’s get going.

Next question…….Is it possible to organize a civilian core to do this if the government won’t? After cases have been adjudicated, must all deportations be handled by the federal government? It is our money, too.

Imagine the glory and majesty of watching the Socialist Liberal Democrat paty members’ heads spin like a scene from the Exorcist if we had true leaders today with guts enough to enact these types of measures.

Operation Wetback (actual name-not a slur by me)
The operation began in California and Arizona and coordinated 1,075 Border Patrol agents along with state and local police agencies to mount an aggressive crackdown, going as far as police sweeps of Mexican-American neighborhoods and random stops and ID checks of “Mexican-looking” people in a region with many Native Americans and native Hispanics.[1] Some 750 agents targeted agricultural areas with a goal of 1000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Around 488,000 people fled the country for fear of being apprehended. By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and the INS estimates that 500,000-700,000 illegals had left Texas voluntarily. To discourage re-entry, buses and trains took many illegals deep within Mexico before being set free. Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Veracruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles (900 kilometers) south.

Result
Operation Wetback deported approximately 80,000 Mexican nationals in the space of almost a year, although local INS officials claimed that an additional 500,000-700,000 had fled to Mexico before the campaign began. The INS estimates rested on the claim that most undocumented people, fearing apprehension by the government, had voluntarily repatriated themselves before and during the operation.

Where have such men gone to? Is the Oprah-fication of this country complete?

Unfortunately, I don’t think Washington listened when we flooded them with calls and emails about shamnesty. Just yesterday, I got a response to the email I sent Arlen Specter. I won’t post the whole response because it’s too long, but here’s part of his response:
” Our immigration system is broken and must be reformed. As the Ranking Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 110 th Congress, I worked tirelessly with my fellow Senators as well as the Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop a “grand compromise” regarding immigration. This compromise would have ensured the security of our borders while providing practical solutions regarding the millions of undocumented immigrants already residing within the United States . Unfortunately, the Senate was unable to reach agreement on the legislation in its current form. Although this legislation has been set aside for now, I continue to believe that the “grand compromise” included many of the elements needed for a solution to our broken immigration system. ”

Blah blah blah

His email called them “undocumented workers”, of course.

The email made me so mad…I responded with this:

I, like many other Pennsylvanians, am ecstatic that the current legislation did not pass. The government needs to enforce the laws that are in place before Americans will have any faith that new immigration laws will be enforced.
There are many practical solutions to address the millions of illegal immigrants (which I notice that you refer to as “undocumented workers”). Here’s a start: every illegal alien who is arrested should be deported once their sentence is complete. Every week I hear of an American who was injured, raped, or killed by an illegal alien who is a repeat offender. This is outrageous. I hope that you and your fellow senators start listening to your constituents. We are fed up. I believe the polls about Congress’s extremely low approval ratings are true. We will not continue to re-elect officials that do not represent us.

The language that wins elections is the language of the heart.

Indeed. Patterico’s posts on victims of illegals have been incredibly moving, and I would like to help do the work it will take to post as many of these cases on the internet as possible. I own a graphic design and website design company (in business 14 years) and I know first-hand the amount of work it will take to process photos and write/edit the stories. I can dedicate some time to it and have employees who will join in.

Illegals and Geraldo share a common trait: They come from countries that will never be part of the United States but enjoy all of the benefits of this great nation.

madmonkphotog on July 18, 2007 at 12:26 PM

Deporting is all well and good for those who are “deportable”, but we have to keep those born here and there seems to be quite a few of those in our jails or have the potential to be there. I’d be interested in how many anchor babies we have incarcerated. On the flip side, I’d like to know how many have taken advantage of the opportunities this Country offers. Are there some in depth stats out there?

jeanie on July 18, 2007 at 12:36 PM

I think “deportcriminalsnow” might be a better act of positioning. The website name plays right into the hands of the Rivera style demagogues who shout “anti-immigrant radical!” at Michelle.

Anil Petra on July 18, 2007 at 12:40 PM

If this is going to be a national spot, I would get rid of the word “shamnesty”. To those who don’t read blogs, it may come across as snarky and mean-spirited.

“Amnesty” would speak to the hearts of most Americans all by itself.

July 18, 2007

A 13-year-old boy was sexually assaulted near a Poway middle school Monday after a homeless man lured him with alcohol to a hillside encampment, sheriff’s officials said yesterday.

Jesus Mora Nava, 30, was arrested hours later after a short pursuit by deputies and booked into jail on suspicion of several child molestation charges.

Nava is being held without bail. He also is being detained on federal immigration violations.

The boy told sheriff’s investigators that he was west of Meadowbrook Middle School when Nava approached him Monday afternoon.

Nava promised the boy alcohol and led him to a nearby hillside, where it appeared Nava had been camping out, sheriff’s Capt. Glenn Revell said.

Investigators said Nava gave the boy a drink before sexually assaulting him.

The boy ran away after the attack and alerted an adult at a nearby sports field, Revell said.
The adult drove the boy to the Poway sheriff’s station, where he was interviewed and then taken to a hospital.

Deputies searched for the transient but found the camp empty.

That night, a sheriff’s helicopter used an infrared camera to detect a heat source in the area.

Nava was arrested after a short chase. Investigators say he was identified based on the victim’s statement and help from local businesses.

Nava entered the country illegally after being deported from the Imperial Valley in May, said Lauren Mack, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman.

Nava also has been arrested for public intoxication, Revell said.

“We are concerned he has possibly tried to lure other young people in a similar situation, and we’d like other possible victims to summon the same courage and come forward,” Revell said.

An estimated 1.6 million children and spouses have been separated from family members forced to leave the country under toughened 1996 immigration laws, a human rights group said Wednesday.

The separations have taken a toll on families who have sold homes, lost jobs, lost businesses or been thrown into financial turmoil, Human Rights Watch said in a new report.

The widespread impact on American families has been truly devastating, said Alison Parker, a senior researcher with Human Rights Watch.

Secure the border first, then come back to me with this idea.

Bush wants to import the Iraqi population.

What the heck is that war about, if the Iraqi population isn’t going to stick around to build Iraq’s democracy?

Encouraging them to flee their own huge responsibility to rebuild their nation as they would have it be and clearing a “refugee” immigration path into the USA is STUPID.

Americans have no way of divining which Iraqi immigrant is a terrorist, as all Muslims by faith believe in jihad.

As far as the war on terror, so far it is only being fought by the military. Congress should stick to domestic security. Since the Congress voted for military action, at this point all politians and the AP need to shut their mouths and leave the military decisions, strategies and tactics to the Pentagon experts. Give the military laissez-faire without interruption, no outside yellow journalism, and no repercussions from outside the Pentagon. Since we want results, get out of the way and let the war be fought by the military.

Meanwhile, where’s the fence and security at home, Congressperson?
