He starts off with the tough questions — why did the neocons take us to war, are Bush and Cheney war criminals, etc. — then segues into the obligatory Libby question with the equally obligatory “PNAC” answer from Mother Sheehan. But the real chemistry comes at the end, when Chris expresses his sympathy for her position before summarizing the Democrats’ dilemma: sure, cutting the funding is the right thing to do and will save countless lives — but what if Bush blames them and it costs them votes? What about those Senate seats they were promised? St. Cindy, bless her bleeding hippie heart, doesn’t much care about that, which proves she’s by far the more principled of the two here.
Chris makes it up to her in the last few seconds, though. How often does one of Sheehan’s interviews leave her sputtering in agreement? There’s something for Matthews’s resume, eh?

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. A bipartisan effort put our troops into combat and a bipartisan effort should unconditionally fund their efforts while they are in harm’s way.
Holding funding back to make a political point while saying they are doing it “in support of our troops” only does one thing…it hurts American troops who are doing what their countrymen told them to do (Democrat and Republican alike).

Self-Defense

Sorry about replying off topic, but I was just about to write this when Allah shut down the comments thread on the Democratic publicity stunt/sleepover party.
Our politics, either in Congress or in the media (and not just the MSM) has become very tribalistic. I’m not sure when the resurgence of this sentiment came about, but it was definately prior to the Iraq war. The ironic thing is that we are descending to the level of tribal struggle that exists in Iraq (sans head chopping and car bombs, but a tribal struggle nonetheless), and we face the same issue of diminishing retuirns in this fight as the Iraqi tribes do there. What happens if the Republicans “win”? We get to go back to the glory days of 2005 (I’ll try to contain my excitement.) If the Dems win? It will also be anticlimactic for their own rabid supporters. Our political class is rotten. Bring on the term limits!
