Shabazz and the Hitler smear

On Hannity & Colmes tonight, the increasingly absurd Malik Zulu Shabazz, last seen getting his arms and legs and head handed to him by Michelle, backed up Rep. Keith Ellison’s claim that 9-11 = the Reichstag fire. Shabazz also tried to argue that Bush may be worse than Hitler because the US had good relations with Hitler prior to the invasion of Poland. That isn’t true — FDR was anti-Hitler long before the war started.

But suppose what Shabazz said was true about the US being friendly to Hitler prior to the war. Like, to people like Shabazz, it would be a bad thing to be on Hitler’s good side or something.

If we’re going to play the Six Degrees of Separation game, perhaps Shabazz should look into the history of his fellow Muslims. Consider, for example, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during the WWII era, Haj Amin al-Husseini. Al-Husseini, who was Yasser Arafat’s uncle, wasn’t just a Nazi sympathizer. He went to Germany in 1941 to try and get Hitler to send the SS death squads into the Middle East to wipe out all the Jews there. If you’re keeping score at home, this was 7 years before the founding of the state of Israel. The “occupied territories” weren’t even a glimmer in Ariel Sharon’s eye.

Bosnia’s Muslims volunteered in droves for the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian):

Georges Lepre wrote that “Himmler endeavoured to restore what he called ‘an old Austrian’ tradition by reviving the Bosnian regiments of former Austo-Hungarian army in the form of a Bosnian-muslim SS Division. Once raised, this division was to engage and destroy Tito’s Partisan forces operating in North-eastern Bosnia, thus restoring local ‘order’. To be sure, Himmler’s primary concern in the region was not security of the local Muslim population, but welfare of ethnic German settlers to the north in Srem. ‘Srem is the breadbasket of Croatia, and hopefully it and our beloved German settlements will be secured. I hope that the area south of Srem will be liberated by … the Bosnian division … so that we can at least restore partial order in this ridiculous (Croatian) state.’ (ibid. p17)

Hitler formally approved the project on 10 February 1943 and SS-Obergruppenführer Arthur Phelps, a Romanian ethnic German commander, was charged with raising the division.

Al-Husseini had his fingers in this pie as well:

In Spring of 1943, the Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, (aka Amin al-Husseini), was recruited by the Nazis to assist in the organization and recruitment of Bosniaks into several divisions of the Waffen SS and other units in Yugoslavia. He was successful in convincing the Bosniaks to go against the declarations of the Sarajevo, Mostar, and Banja Luka Clerics, who had since 1941, forbidden Bosnian Muslims to collaborate with Croat-Nazis (Ustashe).

The 13th was primarily responsible for hunting down partisans who resisted Hitler’s rule in Yugoslavia.

Let’s move to the Middle East, where in Iraq in 1941, the locals rebelled against British colonial rule. Their eventual aim was to defeat the British and unite with the Nazis.

On April 2, 1941, the anti-British Rashid Ali became prime minister as a result of the 1941 coup d’etat. [1] He did not overthrow the monarchy. But Rashid Ali did install a more compliant Regent. He also attempted to restrict the rights of the British under the 1930 treaty. In 1941, Rashid Ali had already made covert contacts with the Nazi representatives in the Middle East but was not yet openly pro-Nazi.

Rashid Ali became openly pro-Nazi, quickly lost the war and ended up fleeing to Germany. How surprising.

To the east in Persia, the Shias there tried a novel approach to making alliance with Hitler: They changed the name of the country to show ideological sympathy with him in 1935.

In 1935, Reza Shah Pahlavi announced that all Western countries should use the name of “Iran” in their languages too. Opponents claim that this act brought cultural damage to the country and separated Iran from its past in the West, and caused many people to confuse it with Iraq (an Arab state west of Iran). During World War II, in fact, Winston Churchill ordered that the name “Persia” be used for all government documents so as to avoid this confusion. For many westerners, “Persia” became a dead empire that does not exist anymore. Members of the Persian intelligentsia were not happy with this decree either, because of the pro-Nazi incentive behind it.[1] After Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, the Nazi Economics minister, commented on the Aryan origin of Persians, Reza Shah’s ambassador in Germany encouraged him to issue the above mentioned decree asking all foreign delegates to use the word “Iran” (meaning “Land of the Aryans”) instead of “Persia” in formal correspondence.[2]

As the New York Times explained at the time, “At the suggestion of the Persian Legation in Berlin, the Tehran government, on the Persian New Year, March 21, 1935, substituted Iran for Persia as the official name of the country. In its decision it was influenced by the Nazi revival of interest in the so-called Aryan races, cradled in ancient Persia. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs set forth in its memorandum on the subject, ‘Perse,’ the French designation of Persia, connoted the weakness and tottering independence of the country in the nineteenth century, when it was the chessboard of European imperialistic rivalry. ‘Iran,’ by contrast, conjured up memories of the vigor and splendor of its historic past.”

The majority of Muslims in the Middle East subscribed to the Nazi “Final Solution” and either covertly or openly supported the Third Reich during the war. Taking a look at the obvious blood libels, calls to genocide and threats to resume the holocaust (that many in the Middle East deny ever happened),

prepare_for_real_holocaust.jpg

it’s beyond obvious that at least a siginificant number in the Middle East and Muslims worldwide still subscribe to core elements of the Nazi ideology. Shabazz himself is an anti-Semite. I wonder, why doesn’t Malik Zulu Shabazz ever bring any of this up?

Update (AP): Beyond The News has the video of Shabazz’s segment on H&C.

Great background info though Bryan. I learned something new.

We all know Hannity loves going head to head with people that he can condemn by their own words (cause they’re Moon Bat crazy). But how much airtime and how big of a platform do we need to keep giving people like Shabazz and Sharpton? If a lefty is too crazy for Alan to support he probably shouldn’t be allowed on TV.

the increasingly absurd Malik Zulu Shabazz

Quick correction Bryan… I don’t think Shabazz could be any more absurd, so I disagree that he’s increasingly so.

Second, stop with the anti-Muslim bigotry already (h/t Riehl) (j/k of course)

Oh btw, did anyone see Shabazz flip out when Sean talked over him (as everyone, guests and hosts, all do on these shows), and Shabazz shouted “let the black man speak!” repeatedly? Hilarious.

I can always tell Bryan’s posts. Their long, detailed, and a damn good read. I rarely look at who posting just so I can dive into the story. All are well written. Maybe Shabazz would be better off living in another country, say, Saudi Arabia?

I wonder why neither Hannity nor Colmes brought it up. Especially Colmes, given he’s of the Jewish faith.

I guess they didn’t know.

Sorry to dis my HotAir homeboys, but you guys gotta get out more. Do some service work for the church, go for a walk in the park (conceal/carry — remember, you’re a sheep dog), take your wife out to dinner.

Hannity and O’Reilly make a billion dollars by throwing their viewers red meat in the persons of Zulu boy and Fat Albert, instead of discussing important issues intelligently, which would seem to be above their talent level.

And you guys want to talk about it?

Few factual issues with what Shabazz said. First of all, he alleges that Bush is attempting to make Muslims the bogeymen by demonizing them. Really, is that why Bush said this less than one week after 9/11?

These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it’s important for my fellow Americans to understand that…

The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don’t represent peace. They represent evil and war.

Second, he alleges Hannity is “going down with a sinking ship”. I ask him to refer to the latest AP poll.

Public satisfaction with the job lawmakers are doing has fallen 11 points since May, to 24 percent, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll. That’s lower than for President Bush, who hasn’t fared well lately, either.

Bush has been taking heat over the Iraq war, his decision to spare a former top vice presidential aide from going to prison and his desire for an overhaul of immigration laws that critics said would give a free pass to illegal immigrants. His job approval rating in the AP-Ipsos survey remained virtually unchanged at 33 percent.

The 24 percent approval rating for Congress matched its previous low, which came in June 2006, five months before Democrats won control of the House and Senate due to public discontent with the job Republicans were doing.

Just two months ago, 35 percent of the public approved of Congress’ work.

Approval among Democrats fell 21 points, from 48 percent in May to 27 percent.

“going down with a sinking ship” would actually be supporting Congress. Hannity’s one of the most listened to radio hosts in America.

On a serious note, one of my good friends is Persian. His family left Iran when the Shah was deposed. He his family is (was) Persian and Christian, so they had to get out. It would break my heart listening to him talk about how beautiful his country was, and how much he wished he could return – without fear.

I think we had a great chance to enact change in Iran, but we missed the boat. Maybe we still have a chance, but it will be harder.

I have known many Muslims, and I have never known one of them to hold any beliefs nearly as extreme as those expressed by the nutjobs that newstalk shows focus on.

Obviously, radical Islam is our primary enemy in the War on Terror. However expecting a population of people who have always been the butt of our jokes to speak up now is somewhat unrealistic. Trying to prove widespread Muslim extremism by pointing to the lack of vocal Muslim dissenters relies on inverted logic.

How many republicans are forthright about the racism within our own party? Not many. We just ignore it. But liberals point to those omissions in our own dissent as proof that “Republicans are racist.”

We don’t get exercised everytime someone from the Vanguard movement or American Renaissance crowd spouts off. They are some of the most strident voices against the amnesty and affirmative action. Yet they do not define the majority of Republicans.

Extrmists are the squeaky wheels. Look at the attention Fred Phelps and his recycled gene pool garners.

Muslim extremists are increasingly hard to ignore, because of their willingness to follow through on their wild threats.

Instead of giving wasted airtime to goofs like Malik Zulu Shabazz (his real name has to be something like Edgar Zitt), why didn’t Fox News try to bring some rep in from Ellison’s staff to try and explain Ellison’s loopy comments? I know Ellison himself wouldn’t show up. The guy obviously likes to fire his mouth off, but would most likely wilt on camera if interviewed by someone like either O’Reilly or Hannity.

ZK on July 17, 2007 at 8:19 AM

He claimed that the US had close ties with Germany from 1932 to 1939, and in fact we did not. I know that these clowns make things up to fit their agenda, but the writing was on the wall with Germany by the mid-Thirties and even though there was a contingent that didn’t want to get involved against the fascist build-up (some things never change), we were clearly on the side of England and France politically.

If someone wants a good idea of what a hate filled, racist, anti-Semitic, supremest sounds like, “Shazam” fits the mold perfectly. Black Americans seem to get air time on Fox to spew their racist hypocrisy from Sharpton to “Shazam”, and then walk away with impunity. So much for equality when it comes to being held responsible for your actions.

Hening on July 17, 2007 at 8:29 AM

With this clown, all roads lead to racism. If people were completely color blind, this jagoff would not have a job, a purpose, or any worth in life. He is the epitome of racism, in that he perpetuates it in order to give his life meaning. Not to mention the fact that he totally demeans the title of the Black Panthers, a group once dedicated to actually helping the community and trying to help black people help themselves.

Hey Bryan, The Germans actually sent some planes to Iraq in WWII so the Iraqis could attack the British Airbase there. But, the British set up a premtive strike and wiped the German planes out on the ground before they could get organized. That ended the “revolt’ against the British because the Germans got disgusted with how lame the Iraqi performance was.

These two comments are based on the picture of ratings driven cariacatures of African-Americans. If you believe that most African-Americans are racist, or that “every other” one is an adherent to Islam, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

Again, such simplified assessments of 12% of Americans, many of whom serve in our armed forces, most of whom are upstanding Americans, is just lazy.

Stereotypes do have some ties to truth. But if they gave a full and accurate account of reality, then the stereotypes of Republicans would render the aforementioned comments as racist. Because all Republicans are racist, right?

Absurd.

Many blacks Many, many blacks subscribe to skewed views of American policy. Many are racist. The same can be said of whites. However, most Americans are simple, God-fearing, industrious people.

I will grant that the state of Black America is troublesome. There are many hurdles – crime, drugs, warped political philosophies. But I submit that as with African-Americans are just like most whites.

Taking the leap that I have known many more blacks more intimately than most HA commenters, I would argue that the average black man/woman fights everyday and goes out of their way to be acknowledged by white Americans as “normal.”

That is not to say that whites do not perceive blacks as normal. Rather it is that important to most blacks that they be accepted as integral and welcomed into the American social tapestry.
