Almost makes me long for the days when Senators were appointed by respective state Governors. But I live in Louisiana, and our long history of colorful Governors makes that possibility problematic.

Why don’t someone stand up and tell it like it is and not back off? Tell them that it is not a short-term win/lose scenario in one place (Iraq) and they might as well stop talking about time limits.

The point of all of this is to pummel Al-Qaeda and it’s infrastructure, and keep psycho’s from getting nuclear capability, the best we can, even if it is just buying us more time. This is not goint to end anytime soon, and we’ll keep the pressure on for as long as it takes. We have to! What else can we do? Pretend there is no threat?

Of course it is a lie that anyone thinks that we are really going to set up a democracy (or anything resembling one) in Iraq or anywhere else in the vacinity (unless we are prepared for a balls-out, civilization crushing war.) Anyone talking “democracy” has no credibility. The best we can hope for in the short-term is a manageable dictator that hopefully we can contain.

Is my understanding of your comment correct being that is something you actually experienced while serving this nation in Iraq?

I’m not challenging your statement, just seeking clarification as to whether that is an actual personal experience because I’m fixin’ to be really outraged at our gov’t and just want to be sure I understand correctly.

Riding around waiting to be blown up in Humvees and (even well-)Armored Personnel Carriers, with no adequate response (even a minor psyops mindfork like this) shows the lack of seriousness and imagination of our leadership.

… HA! That is funny schmuck! I’d love to know how many of those soldiers who say they disagree with Bush’s policy (you know that percentage that Webb so loudly hails) actually disagree because we are trying too hard to look good to the world and not hard enough to find the enemy and kill them.
