Video: Mary Katharine Ham vs. Arianna Huffington on “Reliable Sources”

posted at 2:08 pm on July 15, 2007 by Allahpundit

Can a Hammer/Zsa Zsa smackdown be boring? It can if it drags on for 12 minutes, two of which have been snipped here to make this behemoth YouTube-able. Things start off robustly with Arianna insisting she’s not into airing dirty laundry even though she’s happy to air David Vitter’s and most assuredly will air on HuffPo any other Republican sex scandals that come to light. MK wonders if that supposed distaste for hypocrisy also applies to allegedly green celebrity pundits belching carbon by the assload. She follows that with a little Larry Flynt mockery but it’s all downhill from there, starting with starting with an interminable exchange about Michael Moore and skidding mercifully to a stop with a brief punch-up about Iraq reporting.

I have no count of minutes, but it seems to me that Ariana gets about twice as much time to state her case, then gets a rebuttal to everything MKH says. Real balanced. Oops, that would be another network, wouldn’t it??

Tennman on July 15, 2007 at 2:24 PM

MKH will not be dismissed!

My dream show would be MKH and MM doing an intellectual atomic wedgie on Gerald-ino. Of course, he would not stand a chance with either but just the beauty of it.

Alas, a man can dream.

On-my-soap-box on July 15, 2007 at 2:24 PM

Arianna Huffington is the quintessential liberal, if you don’t have any morals then being immoral is perfectly ok.

I noticed that. I wonder if she watched the video afterwards and realized how stupid she sounded? Probably not. If she’s clueless enough to say it…..

Mine too! But Geraldo would cry and tell stories of immigrants being dragged out of their homes.

I thought that Michael Moores supposed comments about the iPhone were a parody, and not actually real.

belching carbon by the assload

Heh heh, you talk just like I do. :o)

Coronagold on July 15, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Why is MM wearing women’s glasses?

1sttofight on July 15, 2007 at 3:01 PM

When it comes to ‘do as I say and not as I do’ environmentalism, Arianna is the #1 hypocrite. Add to that her hypocrisy when it comes to paying her fair share of taxes, she is the Queen, baby!

Blake on July 15, 2007 at 3:14 PM

Arianna “PuffingHo” Huffington is another perfect example of the cognitive dissonance of the marxist/liberal/socialist/pro-regressives. The fact that all the global warming scammers do exactly the same thing, goes in one ear and out the other. The childishness of this argument is an insult to their own inteligence as well as anyone who would take them seriously.
More importantly, is she still “married” to that gay guy for the purpose of circumventing U.S. Immigration laws?

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Huffington’s last comment says it all, “following conventional wisdom.” More then being leftists, these people are self annointed, self isolated elitists who believe they speak for the unwashed masses. What has Arianna Huffington ever done, ever accomplished, ever produced that would would validate her positions? She married a rich, guy, turned him off to women forever (listening to that voice it is kind of understandable), then walked away with millions.

peacenprosperity on July 15, 2007 at 3:34 PM

Huffington is as disgusting as her blog is.

csdeven on July 15, 2007 at 3:39 PM

Huffington is an asshole. ‘Nuf said.

georgej on July 15, 2007 at 3:44 PM

Arianna came across as condescending and rude to MKH. For that alone, she loses credibility.

I wish MKH had an opportunity to mention that the Huffpo has to turn off commenting whenever Dick Cheney is mentioned for the vile comments that are posted there. What right wing or right of center blog EVER has to do that?

CrimsonFisted on July 15, 2007 at 3:45 PM

As was alluded to before. I wouldn’t care if Arianna was reciting “The Lord’s Prayer”, I can’t stand the voice and accent. Not to mind the pea brain.

Jeff on July 15, 2007 at 3:49 PM

I’d like to see Levy sitting in for MKH. He is more suited to the sort of “one liner, get it on the way home” approach that is needed with an incoherent windbag like Ariana.

TBinSTL on July 15, 2007 at 3:50 PM

This whole issue PROVES that Vitter’s ‘family values’ public stance is accurate and appropriate. He is being brought down specifically because he didn’t follow his own advice about being a family values man. If he had stayed monogamous and faithful, he would not be having problems now.

So it doesn’t show hypocrisy, it shows that his stance was TRUE. Family values based on the Bible are the best way to live a fulfilling life. It isn’t easy to do, but that doesn’t make it any less right.

For them to say that it’s OK to do immoral things if you don’t have a problem with it, but not OK if it is an issue that you champion is ridiculous.

ThackerAgency on July 15, 2007 at 3:54 PM

Arianna has been delusional for too long. She gets too much respect from Time and Newsweek, but they are both liberal rags with absolutely no regard for objectivity. MKH holds her own pretty well with this lightweight.

volsense on July 15, 2007 at 3:54 PM

Mine too! But Geraldo would cry and tell stories of immigrants being dragged out of their homes.

nottakingsides on July 15, 2007 at 2:35 PM

You forgot the “nursing our babies” line too! Don’t forget next time. You’re not a very good mechista, are you? That’s the Feinstein line they use all the time. It’s soooooo funny!

DfDeportation on July 15, 2007 at 4:02 PM

Talk about a limousine liberal and you would get Arianna’s picture next to the definition.

Arianna is the quintessential Greek ship captain. She thinks that quantity of words will sway the truth. She would like when the truth would be more helpful to her cause, because she doesn’t know any other way of discussing.

“if you don’t have any morals then being immoral is perfectly ok”
     —doriangrey

>

She’s being logically consistent. If she doesn’t believe a given thing is wrong, say sexual activity, then of course she thinks it’s “perfectly ok”.

Your entire premise is based on a logical fallacy – that if a person doesn’t believe X is wrong, they should feel badly about doing X.

That’s retarded.

Yes, you and I may think X is wrong and it may in fact be wrong. But naturally a person who doesn’t think X is wrong would think doing it is okay.

To quote my friend’s 11-year old daughter, “Duh.”

Huffington is just one of many reasons I am very thankful for earplugs. Holy crap…

Tom Doniphon on July 15, 2007 at 4:36 PM

Arianna Huffington is nothing but one big boring bucket of pure balderdash. She has virtually nothing to contribute to society these days, except to have a blog that appeals primarily to the Certified 100% Off-Their-Medication/Foaming-At-The-Mouth Wackatoon crowd.

pilamaye on July 15, 2007 at 4:53 PM

CharlestonCritic on July 15, 2007 at 4:56 PM

Christoph on July 15, 2007 at 4:16 PM

She’s being logically consistent.

No actually she’s not. What you say would be correct if it weren’t for the “those without morals holding those with morals accountable” thing. See logically if you have no morals you cant hold someone else accountable for failing to live up to moral standards that yourself don’t have.

pilamaye on July 15, 2007 at 4:53 PM

She has virtually nothing to contribute to society these days

Seriously…did she ever??

doriangrey on July 15, 2007 at 5:01 PM

I just cannot listen to Huffington without “Green Acres” popping into my brain. The level of discourse is about at the same level as the comedy on the show……..

Jim708 on July 15, 2007 at 5:30 PM

Huffington ran out of carbon credits eons ago.

Is she into carbon dating?

profitsbeard on July 15, 2007 at 6:01 PM

There is no limit to the excuses that liberals will make for other liberals.

imshocked on July 15, 2007 at 6:11 PM

Arianna looked like she’d been slapped when MKH immediately riposted with the enviro-hypocrisy. Hehehe. That was good. Jetting about. Hahaha! One-of-the-worst- offenders-Arianna headed home on her jet that night, too?

naliaka on July 15, 2007 at 6:34 PM

The Huff was given more talk time than MKH.

Why does MKH allow herself to be a party to liberal’s skeet shooting?

unamused on July 15, 2007 at 8:06 PM

Why does anyone listen to Huffington…. Jeez, She was married to a man she didn’t realize was homosexual…. How can we trust her judgment in anything else?

roux on July 15, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I don’t know.

MKH is just a little too nice.

And she missed one obvious opportunity after another to tweak Arianna.

The theme is stuck in my head right now.

I remember when was was the conservative view on Politically Incorrect. That segment Strange Bedfellows. I knew she was gonna catch her some Al Frankenitis in that bed. Pretty bad too it seems.

PowWow on July 15, 2007 at 9:53 PM

should say Huff was the conservative view, sorry

PowWow on July 15, 2007 at 9:54 PM

What happened to Arianna’s face? It looks like she got stung by a bunch of bees or something in this video. :/

commonsensehoosier on July 15, 2007 at 11:19 PM

when does Arriana start her enunciation lessons? Good lord, how long has she lived in the country and still talks like she isn’t dry from swimming the river? Oh, that insensitive of me…noticed the accent didn’t slow her down from lying.

oldernslower on July 15, 2007 at 11:37 PM

Poor Huff… her husband left her for a man. She’s just bitter, period.

D2Boston on July 15, 2007 at 11:53 PM

OK now what have I been smoking? Did I just hear that Arianna thinks one error in CNN’s reporting => loss of CNN’s credibility => Moore therefore the paragon of truth? She has a lot to learn. I mean, I never thought I’d be defending CNN but that’s ridiculous.

This whole issue PROVES that Vitter’s ‘family values’ public stance is accurate and appropriate.

Agreed.

Journalists give to Democrats at a rate of 9 to 1.

Not surprising.

zerodamage on July 15, 2007 at 2:19 PM

I’ve said that already, in some way shape or form.

Ryan Gandy on July 16, 2007 at 12:23 AM

The experience of listening to Huffington for such a long time is quite unpleasant.

The experience of listening to her spew zingers and not be trounced was also unpleasant.

That Huffington sat there and defended Moore, a fakumentarian and rich, successful peddler of lies and distortions, regarding Moore’s promotion of Cuba’s medical care while he demonized US health care, against a physician, Sanjay Gupta, who also reported Moore’s distortions, exaggerations, and lies, was most unpleasant, especially because she not only did not convince me, but she demonstrated that she is another dishonest person from whom I had to endure lies, fabrications, exaggerations, and the defense of a liar, distorter, and hater – Michael Moore,” as he lied to the public about a very serious issue, medical health care.
