He was sent from the future to destroy our world. But something went wrong. Magically wrong.
Think of him as the anti-HAL.

Robots are immune from pain, but are not immune from paying royalties to ASCAP.

Where is that, the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh?
All types of loonies there.
Mr. Bingley on July 15, 2007 at 10:37 PM
Am I alone in saying… WTF? Someone obviously must be controlling this thing, right? Robot A.I. technology isn’t even close to this as far as I know. It seems like last I’d heard they’re still working the kinks out of simply making A.I. robots walk.
RightWinged on July 15, 2007 at 10:46 PM
Looks like MGM studios to me.
lorien1973 on July 15, 2007 at 10:48 PM
If you watch both videos, the robot walks in a predefined circle. That isn’t too dfficult to program. If the surface is flat, its very easy. Then he walks through the crowd – assumes someone is in front of him and talks to that theoretical person.
lorien1973 on July 15, 2007 at 10:49 PM
Don’t question it.
Just believe.
Allahpundit on July 15, 2007 at 10:49 PM
It’s clearly a guy in a robot suit.
Mr. Bingley on July 15, 2007 at 10:52 PM
Motion capture simulate human movements.
Nothing can capture the human spirit.
profitsbeard on July 15, 2007 at 10:53 PM
Must be some kind of animatronics…but I do believe, I do I do!
Of course I’m wondering the military uses for such a thing…minus the “singing” of course…Image a couple hundred of these robots marching into enemy territory. Tell me, who’s gonna stay around and even try to fight?
JetBoy on July 15, 2007 at 10:56 PM
I think so too. The shiny chest-plate is the window; the arms are “pinned” to the body at the “elbow” which would be just about a shoulder height for a guy in the suit to stick his arms in so he could manipulate the robotic arms. The legs and hips are proportioned just about normally so a person inside could walk a more or less stable manner, while the chest and upper torso are way over-sized to allow for the head and shoulders of the actor.
I think the head and jaw motions are animatronic but the arms and hands are controlled from within the huge forearms by the actor.
The liability from having a real autonomous robot walk that quickly within a crowd would be sever. Just imagine how much that would weight if it were real. Five hundred pounds at least.
As a costume it probably already weights at around 100-150 pounds.
Herikutsu on July 15, 2007 at 11:05 PM
Thanks Allah…..my computer is smoking a cigarette now.
Limerick on July 15, 2007 at 11:09 PM
That’s just so awesome, that even if the guy came out of the robot suit, i’d still believe it was a 100% genuine robot.
I WANT TO BELIEVE.
madne0 on July 15, 2007 at 11:10 PM
You did see the news about the one guy who left a letter to be opened after his death? He was at Roswell in 1947 and in his letter says that there was a spacecraft and he saw alien bodies.
They would have visited us by now but our television programs keep scaring them away.
Bradky on July 15, 2007 at 11:20 PM
hmmmm… utilizing leftover comment from the Pope post?
geckomon on July 15, 2007 at 11:40 PM
Send him to Iraq with a Lionel Richie sound track. They would thow off Islam and worship it as a god.

Not much of a shtick really, compared to the possibilities, but it’s very cool nonetheless.
I want one.

MAN IN SUIT, MAN IN SUIT!
Warner Todd Huston on July 16, 2007 at 3:31 AM
Goes to show what a good imagination and good construction skills can accomplish.
The suit has to get a bit warm after a while me thinks!
Jim708 on July 16, 2007 at 5:44 AM
Will it blend?
Neo on July 16, 2007 at 6:27 AM
It blends, chops AND cuts. It ALSO makes Julien fries!! Now what would you THINK you;d pay for this modern marvel? $200? $100?
Guess again!
You can get this great machine for only three payments of $19.95!
That’s right. $19.95.
Act now and we’ll trow in the flexomatic backscratcher, absolutely free!
Warner Todd Huston on July 16, 2007 at 7:09 AM
It’s like a version of musical chairs that kicks ass.
James on July 16, 2007 at 7:40 AM
Gotta be a guy in a suit, he sees out of the shiny silver part on the chest. Pretty cool. They should arm him with Gatling guns and send him to Iraq, tell the muj he’s here to help impose allah’s will, then when they start screaming allah akbar, open up on ‘em.
Tony737 on July 16, 2007 at 7:58 AM
Man in the suit or not. That is pretty good.
Sounds a bit like the LA Times huh?
conservnut on July 16, 2007 at 8:00 AM
Nah, he could sing “Have a marvelous wonderful time” while killing the bad guys.

What I see here is a very appropriate joy in the imagination, and creativity of western civilization!
That in itself, is something precious.
USA, all the way!
ValhallaMike on July 16, 2007 at 12:04 PM
More Titan the robot here.
Guardian on July 16, 2007 at 12:28 PM
We must be on the same wavelength…I was thinking of Wagner too and that same scene! Nothing like a little psychological warfare mixed in the battle…
JetBoy on July 16, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Coming this Fall to a theater near you:
“The Iron Giant – The Musical”
Original score by Pete Townsend
Starring Hugh Jackman as Agent Kent Mansley; Kristen Chenowith as Annie; and Harry Connick Jr as the role originally played by Harry Connick Jr.
You’ll laugh to your joints creak! You’ll cry WD-40 into your popcorn! It’s “The Iron Giant – The Musical” (rated G for Giant Fun)
