Video: Geraldo attacks Michelle over the Zina Linnik case
posted at 10:03 pm on July 14, 2007 by Allahpundit
The clip runs four minutes but I’ll tell you up front that the first 30 seconds and last 30 seconds are the only parts relevant to the immigration angle. I’m including the full interview with the cop and the Linnik’s uncle anyway, though, for two reasons: first, I don’t want anyone accusing us of having selectively edited anything out (more on that in a minute) and, second, you need to watch it to appreciate how misleading the opening teaser is. Quote:
The tragic story was twisted to aggravate the immigration debate… A little girl snatched and brutally murdered. Tonight her family speaks out on why his “immigrant” label should be replaced by “monster.”
Italicized to reflect the breathless absurdity of the voiceover. As you’ll see, it’s baldly untrue: the subject of immigration never comes up in the interview and thus her family “speaks out on” no such thing. That’s simply Geraldo’s way of framing the segment in accordance with his demented view that you can’t properly be thought of as both an immigrant and a criminal simultaneously. You’re an immigrant until you commit a crime; once that happens, you metamorphose ontologically such that your actions, conveniently, are no longer relevant to America’s immigration laws and anyone who claims they are is just an “anti-immigrant radical” like Michelle Malkin. Note: not even an “anti-illegal immigrant radical.” Just plain “anti-immigrant.”
The line you’re watching for is the very last one, the irony of which is so enormous as to make me jealous that any man could have balls that big. That one line is why I’m giving you the whole segment, in fact; I want you to see for yourself how, in his rush to throw stones at Michelle about unissued apologies, this guy collapsed his glass house.
The good news is, the rematch between him and the boss should make for a hell of an impact segment this week on the Factor.

Geraldo needs to go back to TV shows where people can throw chairs at his nose.
Herikutsu on July 14, 2007 at 10:14 PM
That was just a typical attack by a liberal who knows he will loose a face to face arguement. It is an immigration issue. Had this man been thrown out of the US when he should have been that little girl would be alive and he would be someone elses problem!

Don’t you just want to rip his moustache off?
jihadwatcher on July 14, 2007 at 10:15 PM
Yeah it is quite amazing that when people come here illegally and break our laws, their immigrant status does not matter, however when they come here illegally and
“do jobs Americans won’t do”, then all of a sudden their immigrant status is praised to the high heavens.
In other words, it’s a “the ends justify the means” type of thing.

He expects Michelle to apologize? For what and to whom? To him?? Did I miss the flying pigs?

Michelle is anti-immigrant? I didn’t get the memo.

He balances out the network so nicely. He plays Glenn Beck’s (an idiotic , compulsive liar of a Glenn Beck) role on CNN. So sad he is going to kill his own ratings. But he will stay anyway because he is Hispanic. Hispanic, it’s the new Black!
Theworldisnotenough on July 14, 2007 at 10:17 PM
Oh he’ll go face to face with MM if he can. He still thinks he won the last one. And even if MM got up and kicked his cajones between his ears to prove it to him the idiot would still think he won. He’s that stupid.

Haven’t you been watching tv? Everyone who was anti-amnesty is aa bigot and anti-immigration.

Hey Allahpundit,
It seems like every third link on Instapundit is an Amazon Associates link. Today he’s peddling solar panels. For every person who clicks on one of those links and then makes any purchase from Amazon in the following couple of weeks, Amazon gives a cut to the puppy blender. If you did that I think you’d have enough for an iPhone in no time.

What’s amazing is how anyone can give Jerry Rivers the benefit of assuming he is a serious commentator or “newsman” after all the silly stunts he’s pulled in his career to show he is really just a yutz.
People have FAR too short a memory!

Michelle has to owe someone an apology before she’ll give one, you pompous windbag.

This guy Shepard Smith is, in a way, no different that Geraldo Rivera.
It was yesterday, if I remember well, that Smith called Terapon Adhahn (that murderer/sex offender who should have been deported years ago,)
that’s it!!
Smith is so pathetic with his political correctness and liberalism.

If Michelle is an anti-immigrant radical then I’m one, too.
Dork B. on July 14, 2007 at 10:27 PM
Geraldo has found his crusade, and her name is Michelle. His tirade is nothing more than window dressing for a frustrated “has been” who can’t separate personal feelings from news, if one can call what he reports news.
Fox should drop him altogether. I avoid ALL segments on Fox when he is on and his show entirely. He’s not worth my time.
madmonkphotog on July 14, 2007 at 10:28 PM
He means how long are we have to wait for an apology from him for lying right?
Hey Geraldo, he’s being held by INS! INS Geraldo. INS does not hold citizens or people who are here legally. Got it you race-baiting demagogue?
TheBigOldDog on July 14, 2007 at 10:28 PM

Geraldo “Retard” Rivera. Open Borders Shill. Panderer to Illegal Aliens. A Gross Idiot – 144 times worse than an ordinary idiot.
jaime on July 14, 2007 at 10:38 PM
Geraldo said this case was NOT about immigration or open borders and then said the scumbag was being held in the custody of the INS. If his residence status wasn’t in question why would the INS have him? Geraldo says it is because other charges are pending but that doesn’t make any sense. The INS ONLY deals in matters of immigration. Which of course means it most definitely IS an immigration issue. Geraldo contradicted himself.

Let’s lay off the ad hominems, please. Michelle has to co-exist with this guy at Fox.

Allah, please ask Michelle, when she’s tearing Gerry apart, to mention the whole wanusmaximus thing… and how he kept hyping it hours (maybe days?) after the blogosphere debunked the theory that those photos were of the VTech shooter.

Unfortunately, the G-man is not alone: His is the voice of legions of multi-cultis, white and brown and whatever else it is that people are colouring themselves theses days.
If it were only G-man in all his male-menopausal glory, we could get some Satisfaction ragging on him, but he is only the self-appointed Messenger of Goofy Race-Baiting…..and he ain’t gonna go away anytime soon

Geraldo Revolver has irked me for years. I change channels anytime he is on. I just can not force myself watch/listen to his self aggrandizing blurbs.
MM on the other hand….I watch and listen attentively. FOX is nuts for not sponsoring MM on her own show.
The VENT!
Sailor7 on July 14, 2007 at 10:56 PM
I’m sure I’d be the first to point out that what I’m about to say is not completely relevant, but I felt uncomfortable just watching Geraldo. He’s too stiff and his voice is too harsh like someone with a psychosis. Maybe, I overinterpret. Maybe, I’m being unfair. But I can’t help noticing that my observations about Geraldo’s affect mirror the irrationality of the logic he is using to attack Michelle.
I hope I’m wrong.
thuja on July 14, 2007 at 10:56 PM
I’m sorry, but that last part made me laugh. That was hilarious.
frankj on July 14, 2007 at 10:57 PM
In his 1991 autobiography, Exposing Myself, Geraldo reflected quite proudly of the failed vault stunt, “My career was not over”, he wrote, “I knew it had just begun.”
jihadwatcher on July 14, 2007 at 10:58 PM
Blah, blah, snarl, snarl, outrage …”As far as I know…”
Uh, Geraldo, if you are going to stand in front of a camera and talk out the two sides of your mouth, you better be more prepared with facts than …”as far as I know.”
Lazy. Dishonest? Walmart expects more from their employees than the public is getting from these so-called “journalists.” “Did you check to see if the shelves were stocked?” Wrong answer: “As far as I know they were …”
WHO WHO are the morons at the networks who keep foisting this horrid man on the public? Ratings still tanking give any clues?
naliaka on July 14, 2007 at 10:59 PM
EnochCain wins the thread! That was hilarious… except that I fear there must be some group watching him, or Fox would have given him the boot. His show is torture to me, but so is Greta’s, but there’s an audience for “missing girl of the week”/”celebrity in trouble of the week”. It’s terrifying that there’s actually a huge an audience for this stuff, but there is none the less.

Na. He just does it to draw attention and get air time on the Factor. It’s all about the $$$.
TheBigOldDog on July 14, 2007 at 11:10 PM
Geraldo is one of the reasons why I don’t even watch FNC any more. I can’t.
Their “fair and balanced” reasoning is simply to put on both sides (or more) of every issue, no matter how false, misleading and utterly stupid, one side, might be.
When they stop featuring the likes of Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and even good old boy Gerry Rivers, then maybe I will try watching again. Until then.. nah.
It was the same reasoning in my decision to no longer watch CSPAN, as when they have people call in, they take an even number of democrats, republicans and independents, no matter what the issue, no matter what the argument, no matter how the vast majority of their audience might feel, making it seem as if the country is equally divided on virtually every topic they cover.
No thanks.
ataloss on July 14, 2007 at 11:12 PM
Ratings. $$$$. It’s like professional wrestling in that regard. Create a feud, hype it, and draw the eyeballs for the cage match.
TheBigOldDog on July 14, 2007 at 11:12 PM
It’s not the best example of propaganda I’ve ever seen but that’s how it’s done all right. I’ll rate it a C-, although the way he kept looking at the wrong camera at the end made it a toss-up between that and a D+.
For it’s journalistic quality, F
I can’t believe this guy still has a job at a major news outlet, especially Fox News. At best I would gauge his skills as equivalent to a local network news reporter for a small, liberal city.
Fox News should insist that if he wants to keep his job he should have to publicly apologize to Michelle as well as correct his false and misleading statements. If I were them I would be pouring over his contract right now trying to find a way to find him in breach of contract. They must have clauses in there for this sort of thing.
FloatingRock on July 14, 2007 at 11:25 PM
Allahpundit, you should mention that in the lead. A lot of people post before they start reading the thread.
FloatingRock on July 14, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Actually, Rita Cosby (Crosby?) actually holds the sceptre for most despicable.
She, all sweet and concern, on air actually asked the grandfather of a little murdered girl if he could suppose for the audience what the girl’s final moments might have been like.
The man literally choked, then gasped, “I … I can’t even …” It was the most sickening piece of TV voyeurism and exploitation ever.
Even Geraldo, though he’s truly working on achieving that level, hasn’t done that … yet.
naliaka on July 14, 2007 at 11:37 PM
I gave up on Geraldo a long time ago. He’s not worth my anger. I get upset, sure, very upset. But I don’t take anything he says seriously at all. He lost credibility a long time ago. I don’t know how FNC kept him after the whole giving away co-ordinates incident. Fair and Balanced, I know, but that was bad. This is bad too. But Michelle can handle him. She’s done it before, very well I might add.
PowWow on July 14, 2007 at 11:38 PM
BTW Gutfeld’s Geraldo voice? How funny is that?
PowWow on July 14, 2007 at 11:40 PM
When Geraldo comes on, I change the channel unless Michelle is on at the same time. Seems lots of other people do also, maybe FNC should take notice.
xplodeit on July 14, 2007 at 11:52 PM
I’m looking forward to seeing it but I don’t think that’s enough by itself. Geraldo should apologize to Michelle or give her an opportunity to respond on his own show. There probably isn’t a lot of overlap between viewers of Geraldo’s show and the Factor.
FloatingRock on July 15, 2007 at 12:00 AM
Somebody needs to drag Geraldo from his 80s hack style of lie and let it fly into the modern age of at least some factual presentation is needed before slinging the sheist all over the airwaves.
Just who gives a crap whether this guy served in the military, how is that an excuse to rape and murder a little girl?
Since when does any alien status become permanent enough to harm and skate back into our society?
More importantly, does Geraldo actually believe this ‘monster’ deserved to remain in this country so he could rape and murder little Zina?
Does Geraldo really believe a little girl deserved the opportunity a perverted, dysfunctional, unenforced, alien always wins INS/ICE tracking system gave a child predator?
If asked (and we should be) would any American (other than Geraldo) have allowed this ‘monster’ to stay here and commit more heinous crimes?
Speakup on July 15, 2007 at 12:05 AM
Yeah, I notice that more and more. Someone even called him Jerry Rivers upthread. If they had read the previous thread on the Geraldo debacle, they would have been tipped to the fact that the Jerry Rivers thing is FALSE.
RushBaby on July 15, 2007 at 12:14 AM
Geraldo accusing someone of making a “cheap point” and wondering “how long it will take to get an apology on this one” is like Rosie O’Donnell accusing someone of being a gluttonous overeater and wondering when we are going to see them join weight watchers. I haven’t been able to stand him since I watched him as a young teen on 20/20. His nonsensical sensationalism was anathema even to my young, idealistic, immature mind.
ataloss about covers my opinion as well.
However, we really should stop the Jerry/Gerry Rivera comments as it just makes us look as ignorant as the kos kids. That old story about his name is not true. Snopes debunking http://www.snopes.com/media/celebrity/geraldo.asp
deepdiver on July 15, 2007 at 12:20 AM
Scuse’ me Gerry, but does my wanting us to build the damn fence, lay some razor-wire and even lay some Claymores down at the border – if we have to – make me an anti-’immigrant’ radical too?
GOOD! Then I’m good company!
Oh, and btw douchebag, lose that tired, mouth-breather signoff already!

Fox is paying this DB more $ than I can even imagine to be the “contrarian” opinion .That is just one of the reaons that I do not watch TV , I just catch the clips online anymore. I jus don’t have the time or the stomach to deal with bags like GR while being pitched on products I have no use for.

Floating Rock, I think quote within a quote might be upcoming (new programming was reported to be underway). Now, you just have to put quote tags around each individual quote.
A kindred spirit. I have not watched television in over seven years. I drove to my Dad’s house to watch the coverage of 9/11.
RushBaby on July 15, 2007 at 12:52 AM
I watch Fox only when MM is subbing for Bill O. Otherwise they have become a cartoon and I can’t take them any longer. He just fits in with the rest of the 24X7 Paris Hilton type coverage by these morons…
sabbott on July 15, 2007 at 12:54 AM
I’ll be darned. I knew that the thing about him being BORN ‘Jerry Rivers’ had long ago been debunked… But the reason I have continued to call him that (when I’m not trying to be even more offensive) is because I had read (at Snopes, I thought) a year or two ago that he had billed HIMSELF “Jerry Rivers” at his first, or second media job, trying to downplay his ‘heritage’.
Well, since it is considered to be bad to use the Jerry Rivers thing, I guess in the future I’ll have to use something even more disparaging.
LegendHasIt on July 15, 2007 at 1:07 AM
RushBaby, I haven’t watched TV for around the same period, except when I’m visiting someone else’s house. When my brother called and woke me up on 9/11 I had to go out and spend a few minutes hooking up an external antenna to my TV before I really believed him. Even then I could only just barely see what was going on, the reception was so bad.
I ended up going to my cousin’s house to watch the coverage and that’s when I saw the video (replay) of people jumping from the towers. I can’t believe so many American’s have forgotten about it so quickly. It’s shameful. I’ve often wondered if it’s because they watch TV and I don’t.
TV is the most pernicious drug known to man!
FloatingRock on July 15, 2007 at 1:10 AM
There ya go.
Cannot agree more.
It almost has to be. There is a television in the waiting room at the dealership where I get my oil changed. Maybe a talk show, or Judge XYZ, or soap opera is on, and I can feel brain cells being assassinated while I am frantically plugging in my earbuds and clutching some ridiculous magazine so I can tune it out.
But the people jumping from the towers? That is branded onto my heart.
RushBaby on July 15, 2007 at 1:22 AM

How did we come to this point where guys like Rivera, Matthews, Jennings (piss be upon him), Rather, Brokaw, et al get to be DONATED pay and credibility from anyone…? Must be some affirmative action program that caters to Liberal tools and Democrat hacks because of the mental disabilities. Another case of Liberal over-compensation.
Rugged Individual on July 15, 2007 at 1:50 AM
Rushbaby, just because the “Gerry Rivers” thing was “proven false”, doesn’t change a thing. Sorry, but I must have missed that thread. Big deal. It wasn’t the intention of my post to make that the sticking point. To me, far too often, the people who they choose to bring in, or hire on (Geraldo and Alan, for example) to me, are nothing more than hacks for positions that almost never make sense to any thinking person. In other words, they are either full of sh!t, or full of themselves, or, as in Geraldo’s case, both.
But I know we agree on most things. I mean, after all, you are a RUSH babe, right?

Ya know, I just really looked at the still on the main page for this thread. Anyone else think Geraldo looks like someone just shoved something up his ass?
Kowboy on July 15, 2007 at 2:17 AM
I think it is telling that a bin Laden tape that surfaces and is posted 7 hours before this post, has less comments.
I say that in a good way, or at least saying how important this topic is for our security from any illegals that want to come here and do us harm.
Geraldo is entertaining. He wants to be the big shot. I still liked him in Iraq, though he may of given away positions, he did not do it on purpose. I liked him wanting to Afghanistan going after UBL. I liked when his car got all shot up and he ate it up. I liked him going after the killer in Atlanta and was one of the first to the apartment where the killer was. Got to admit, he gets in there, but not always to get the bad guy, but for his ego.
I cant fault him for most of what he says and does as he believes it, but I think he is crossing a line here which makes you doubt his other work. He is manipulating the facts, and throws out stuff like “to the best of my knowledge” knowing full well he is not telling the truth. trying to call out MM instead of just talking or emailing her.
I think he is past his usual time in one spot, in other words, warn out his welcome.
WoosterOh on July 15, 2007 at 3:35 AM
Maybe Geraldo will one day find the true answer to the illegal immigration problem in this country…………INSIDE AL CAPONE’S VAULT!

Sorry, I think he says “the facts as I know them”.
I am sure one could guess to replace wanting with going to Afghanistan.
WoosterOh on July 15, 2007 at 3:38 AM
You know, at the very least, he could quit attacking Michelle when she is not present to respond. That’s twice now.
Granted, he’s done it to O’Reilly and Hannity as well, but never quite this virulent. Before, it was a “we have to have a heart” message to them.
Not that he’s been much for class or professionalism of late, but this is another example of him displaying a lack of both.
Hawkins1701 on July 15, 2007 at 3:42 AM
The only cheap points being made here are by Geraldo himself and boy is this guy ever cheap!
He gets an uncle with an obvious accent onto the show, milks the sentimentality angle for all its worth and then uses it by association against Michelle, trying to smear her with his own defects.
He’s the one overtly milking the crime in the most disgusting and insensitive manner, trotting out all the old cliches about the girl’s ‘broken body’ and the ‘slain child’ without the slightest hint of genuine emotion to be seen reflected on his face.
The guy is offensive.

Jesus. So much can happen in 5 hours, like her actual murder. I mean, Jesus, man…

From the accents and some loose facts, it really sounds like the murdered girl (or, more likely, her immediate family) DID immigrate here.

If this animal were deported after the first incestuous child molestation charge Zina Linnik, a precious child would be alive. He is also being investigated for similar unsolved crimes. Geraldo is the face of what is wrong with our country right now. He owes Michelle Malkin an apology for calling her a anti-immigrant radical. Did the boob pay attention when “the People” spoke out against illegal immigration and amnesty?
Shep Smith tried to make the same case. He started off his segment about Zina Linnik paraphrasing Geraldo’s statement by stating that Zina Linnik’s death was not an immigration issue. It appears they are both cut from the same cloth.

Geraldo continues to be a hack. I shut Fox News off everytime they put him on. To appease his pathetic viewpoint regarding this poor child’s death, he will continue to argue that deporting this murderous monster years ago would have had no effect on this child. What????
Geraldo and his stupid logic strikes again.

Why FOX keeps this jackass loser on the payroll is a deep mystery.

If Fox gets rid of the this moron, he would only be hired by MSNBC with a big fat pay raise…..that is, after he’s released from the NUT HOUSE..

Ok, can we call them what they are… immigrant monsters…?
I can’t watch anything with giraldo. He’s not worth my time. Though I do think he should be squashed by the likes of Michelle until there’s nothing left. The type of apologist crap that he spews is dangerous to all young and innocent children.

To Geraldo (aka-NUTCASE), Tell all your illegal criminal friends if they need a nice place to stay for a while, come on over to Illinois..We have a do nothing governor and two of the nicest senators money can buy…they and the illegals could all get together for dindin, for a nice friendly chat….and best yet 99.9% of the local goverments all gladly follow their lead…Thats why this state starts off with the letters….ILL….it is truly sick…

If FOX needs a trash TV representative I think that Jerry Springer would equip himself much better than this tired old womanizer Geraldo. He’s just another lawyer twisting the truth around to suit his own action line.

Soundingboard has it right:
We don’t have to put all of the man’s work in a single bucket. Geraldo’s coverage of the Afghanistan war was excellent. His delivery of dry socks to the Northern Alliance during a winter battle was brilliant.
However, Geraldo is so emotionally involved with the immigration issue that he ends up calling Michelle a Nazi because that was easier than facing the facts.
When the topic is something besides immigration (or OJ) Geraldo is no worse than the average TV investigator.

Geraldo is more suited to his natural role of ambulance chasing. He does that well.
In fact, a match made in Connie Chung/Maury Povich heaven would be Geraldo and Greta, the two best ghouls on the network.
They could go back to Aruba(along with brother Craig),and beat the crap out of the Holloway case for the next year on their honeymoon.

I just sent geraldo an email. I asked him why would INS hold a citizen? I asked him where did Zina’s uncle talk about his status as an immigrant? Her uncle only talked about what a sweet good girl she was. I told him that i looked forward to his apology to MM when she takes him to school on O’Reilly next week.

I’m curious what Whorealdo’s ratings are…from reading these posts not many viewers here. The majority of fox viewers would be conservative I would think, or they were before turning left. Is it just me or is Fox becoming no more than an electronic tabloid?

I am troubled Allahpundit asks us to lay off ad hominems just because Gerlado works at FOX and Michelle Malkin must coexist with him. His site though, so I will.
But hmm, sure is troubling indeed.
Allahpundit, many Americans are sick and tired of the pandering going on in this immigration debate, and we are sick and tired of sensationalist journalists. That goes for many issues out there that are being so poorly handled by “professional politicians” and “professional propagandists”.
Ad hominem attacks are cheap, yes, and in general, they should be avoided. But sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.
