My Army Infantry son (19 years old) is home for a few days before he deploys to Iraq mid September. We were up until 3:30 last night discussing his feelings about his duty as a soldier and a man. He was telling me how “exercised” he gets when he listens to kids his age complain about the war, yet brag that they had to work a 9 hour shift at Micky Dee’s. He gets right in the middle of their a$$es and gives them some insight into the life of a war fighter.

He knows that he is absolutely going to have to kill people and he is ready to do his duty. He is just a little concerned with the looseness of the ROE’s and the potential for innocents to be killed. He doesn’t know if he is going to come back screwed up. I wont go into the specifics, but he is going to be ok with performing his duty and get back home and function as a member of society. Needless to say, these are issues the leather arm chair generals will never even consider their entire lives. Yet here is my boy, 19 years old, having to deal with some hard, hard realities that are part of keeping us all safe in our beds at night. I quoted George Orwell to him.

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”

The worthlessness and humility I feel cannot be described with words and I’ll be damned if I will ever denigrate the sacrifice of any Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Coastguardman, Airman, or any other patriot of this country who faces up to those challenges.

So, I agree, sleep well, because they are keeping them safe and the rest of us will always support and appreciate those rough men.

The Marine Corp went down a notch the day they let Murtha’s fat ass in. The very Jarheads Murtha’s been trying to hang have earned back the respect he lost for the Corp. That’s a goddamned fact!

Murtha is just one of those people that I get this disgusted feeling that I can’t even describe when I see him coming on TV. There’s a few that do it. And the list gets longer every day, unfortunately. How I wish he took the money in the case. Deal or No Deal before it’s time.

Back atcha brother I was in Vietnam I corps and at the expense of monopolizing this blog issue, thank you csdeven but I have so many skeletons in my closet I could only be a great President just kidding… sarcasm suits me on these issues. I guess the single point of this issue is this….. Murtha prejudged, was insulting to servicemen in general and the USMC in general…. I cannot agree with appeasement ala Chamberlain We all bleed or none do and we reap the consequences… for those of you in your leather chairs at desks judging…. sleep well.

Thank you again! I’m sorry if I brought back any bad memories but I have never met anyone who was there.
Wow, I can’t believe this still brings back so much anger and frustrations. I had to take a timeout to go piss on a picture of hassan nosehairs.
It’s been a long time but if I remember correctly he was 2/2,26th Amphibious. Cpl. Guillermo San Pedro.

Paratisi; was onshore when the barracks went-was in the building 45 minutes earlier. At the time I was with 3/3 out of Kaneohe, Oahu. Lost some good friends that day.
We were pulled out about 2 weeks afterwards.

MNDavenotPC; Semper Fi brother, I agree. What’s worst about Murtha and his routine is that having been in the Corps, he should know better- it just makes his sins that much worse.
As a former Marine infantryman who went on to force recon and latter special ops, I saw action several times over the years begining with Beirut in ‘83, and I can’t recall this kind of venom in so many forms being directed at us as these men and women today have to deal with coming from their own (so-called) political leadership.
I kept in touch with the guys I served with who decided to go for 30 years or more, most who have served in this war from the opening invasion to Fallujah. I have also met and kept in touch with many of the Corp’s new breed in the last few years, and I can tell you that these kind of things cause them much dismay , anger- and hurt.
As one who loves his country more than my own life, I never thought I’d see the day when such a state of affairs was so commonplace.

One serviceman, be he/she a Marine,sailor, airman, merchant marine, coastie or soldier is only as strong as people supporting them are. I did what I thought I should do because I felt at the time I had so many who felt as I did. here WERE more Murtha people there that I had expected. Perhaps we should remember when discussing troop pullouts, Are we really saving and supporting them by advocating pullout?… I wonder
