“Q Thank you, sir. Mr. President, millions of Americans can recall a time when leaders from both parties set this country on a mission of regime change in Vietnam. Fifty thousand [Sixty thousand] Americans died. The regime is still there in Hanoi, and it hasn’t harmed or threatened a single American in the 30 years since the war ended. What can you say tonight, sir, to the sons and the daughters of the Americans who served in Vietnam to assure them that you will not lead this country down a similar path in Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: That’s a great question. Our mission is clear in Iraq. Should we have to go in, our mission is very clear: disarmament. And in order to disarm, it would mean regime change. I’m confident we’ll be able to achieve that objective, in a way that minimizes the loss of life. No doubt there’s risks in any military operation; I know that. But it’s very clear what we intend to do. And our mission won’t change. Our mission is precisely what I just stated. We have got a plan that will achieve that mission, should we need to send forces in.”

As noted, our leaders need to learn the history of expansionist, tyrannical Islam.

And, wherever we have the chance, we need to kill jihadis.

I have no expectations for the governments of Iraq of Afghanistan to become anything worthwhile until Islam is reformed (if possible) or unravelled (more likely).

I want our soldiers sent to these fronts to be able to reduce the jihadist threats, whatever the initial war rationale (WMD’s or “spreading democracy”). Even if the overall plan is bass-ackwards, it is still an opportunity to get rid of those jihadi-loving lunatics drawn to the fight.

Not all protacted war is useless. Korea was a useful stalemate (since a war with China/Russia was with only other option), and its been a 50+ year long occupation that has kept peace in the region.

I’m hoping we get military leaders out of this contact with radical jihadists, who now know them from face to face conflict, who will bring their hardened wisdom to our government.

And who will fight the further battles in the war against resurgent Islamic imperialism with more brains and balls.

DAMN SKIPPY!! I would have supported the invasion of Iraq had that been the only stated goal. Fight them there, not here. AQ has to expend their limited resources trying to get us out of their holy land and not on efforts to attack us on US soil.

Among the stated and repeated goals of al Qaeda is to destroy the Great Satan and to establish a global caliphate. This comes from the very top (OBL). It was al Qaeda that successfully attacked us on our soil on 9/11. I guess you are saying that there was no Western Culture or Heritage near the World Trade Towers, or the Pentagon, and certainly not in a field in Pennsylvania.

It is very strange then that so many Iraqis have fled Iraq. If that were true they should be going in the opposite direction.

Please do me a favor, scroll back up to the top, and watch the video, again if you have done so already. What you are seeing is the leadership of al Anbar province celebrating their alliance with us and against al Qaeda. Many other Iraqis have fled Iraq, well, that’s to be expected in any war.

You being proud of them isn’t bring them home.

That’s not a goal I share at this time.

The lack of another long-planned, long-rehearsed, and heavily funded attack such as 9/11 on our soil is evidence to me that we are safer. Domestic plots we see today are hastily conceived and easier to detect. Before we went to Iraq and Afghanistan, OBL and his base were at leisure to patiently recruit, fund-raise, train, and infiltrate. Thanks to our military, this leisure has been stripped away, and the enemy is resorting to much cruder tactics, such as roadside bombs. On a battlefield of OUR choosing.

When I put my clothes in the washer I don’t get impatient because water level hasn’t been reached and the machine can’t really do it’s job yet.

If you are saying that you don’t understand why our war plans are announced to the whole world, you’ll get no argument from me. It is absolutely STUPID to announce to the baddies when, where, and how we are going to attack them.

Protracting a war…..is the US protracting this war? I don’t think so. If anyone is protracting this war, it is the bad guys. So, the theory applies to them, not us.

The “Surge” has been under way since February. It has been a “Rolling Surge” and while it would not be completely fair to give the start month as February, it is not fair at all to say as Bush has “We just started”.

It may not even make sense to call it a “surge”.

Surge: A sudden, transient increase.

It was not sudden and I do not think that if Bush prevails that the “surge” will be anything like transient.
