There was a time, when George Bush at least talked like a conservative and sounded truthful.

March 6, 2003

President George Bush Discusses Iraq in National Press Conference
The East Room

[Taken from the archives of the White House web site itself.]

"Q Thank you, sir. Mr. President, millions of Americans can recall a time when leaders from both parties set this country on a mission of regime change in Vietnam. Fifty thousand [Sixty thousand] Americans died. The regime is still there in Hanoi, and it hasn’t harmed or threatened a single American in the 30 years since the war ended. What can you say tonight, sir, to the sons and the daughters of the Americans who served in Vietnam to assure them that you will not lead this country down a similar path in Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: That’s a great question. Our mission is clear in Iraq. Should we have to go in, our mission is very clear: disarmament. And in order to disarm, it would mean regime change. I’m confident we’ll be able to achieve that objective, in a way that minimizes the loss of life. No doubt there’s risks in any military operation; I know that. But it’s very clear what we intend to do. And our mission won’t change. Our mission is precisely what I just stated. We have got a plan that will achieve that mission, should we need to send forces in."

I have to say in defense of Dubya. He has kept his promise to the American people and our military about staying the course. This war is the culmination of the twenty plus years of conservative influence since Reagan was elected to office. This war is about much more than the terrorists coming to our shores. The left cannot afford the US growing a pair of balls and is afraid of the military and the second ammendment. These are the major obstacles to their marxist agenda. They along with the MSM will do anything to conceal those facts, even to the point of demonizing our military. We must endeavor to elect some of the returning military veterans to office in the next election and kick out the RINOs. The video that acompanies this post is the Republican version of KATRINA footage!!PS-MLK was a Republican. Americans Unite!

MB4-

As noted, our leaders need to learn the history of expansionist, tyrannical Islam.

And, wherever we have the chance, we need to kill jihadis.

I have no expectations for the governments of Iraq of Afghanistan to become anything worthwhile until Islam is reformed (if possible) or unravelled (more likely).

I want our soldiers sent to these fronts to be able to reduce the jihadist threats, whatever the initial war rationale (WMD's or "spreading democracy"). Even if the overall plan is bass-ackwards, it is still an opportunity to get rid of those jihadi-loving lunatics drawn to the fight.

Not all protacted war is useless. Korea was a useful stalemate (since a war with China/Russia was with only other option), and its been a 50+ year long occupation that has kept peace in the region.

I'm hoping we get military leaders out of this contact with radical jihadists, who now know them from face to face conflict, who will bring their hardened wisdom to our government.

And who will fight the further battles in the war against resurgent Islamic imperialism with more brains and balls.

"The biggest failure is the failure to try"
While congress and apparently a growing number of Americans are willing to surrender, the men and women on the front lines aren't. Why?
Bringing the troops home doesn't make any one safer. Active duty forces in the border of the United States are expressly forbidden from conducting any of the things that they are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan, mainly killing the jihadists.
And those who wish to surrender need to sit down at the table with the leaders of these terrorists organizations and negoiate the terms of that surrender. Leaving the battlefield before the job is done is exactly that and I don't care what other words you pull out of the dictionary to lend nuance to it, it is surrender.
I served 20+ years and in that entire time I never saw a Dem or a liberal that was ever concerned about my safety like they pretend to be now. In fact they spent most of their time cutting the budget and reducing the size of the forces. I wonder where we would be now if we hadn't had the big "drawdown" in the 90's. For those not familiar the drawdown in the 90's was when we cut active duty forces by half. You know it being peacetime and all we didn't need no stinking military being a drain on the budget.

Under President Bush’s leadership, our military is drawing them to a battlefield of OUR choosing.

DAMN SKIPPY!! I would have supported the invasion of Iraq had that been the only stated goal. Fight them there, not here. AQ has to expend their limited resources trying to get us out of their holy land and not on efforts to attack us on US soil.

(Now you may have hit on something here. That may be what Bush says under his breath while he is trying to mislead people)

silly, rather beneath you

(In Iraq they are attempting to kill American troops and some other Iraqis. Western culture and heritage are not in Iraq)

Among the stated and repeated goals of al Qaeda is to destroy the Great Satan and to establish a global caliphate. This comes from the very top (OBL). It was al Qaeda that successfully attacked us on our soil on 9/11. I guess you are saying that there was no Western Culture or Heritage near the World Trade Towers, or the Pentagon, and certainly not in a field in Pennsylvania.

Under President Bush's leadership, our military is drawing them to a battlefield of OUR choosing.

It is very strange then that so many Iraqis have fled Iraq. If that were true they should be going in the opposite direction.

Please do me a favor, scroll back up to the top, and watch the video, again if you have done so already. What you are seeing is the leadership of al Anbar province celebrating their alliance with us and against al Qaeda. Many other Iraqis have fled Iraq, well, that's to be expected in any war.

You being proud of them isn’t bring them home.

That's not a goal I share at this time.

(There being in Iraq is not making us safer.)

The lack of another long-planned, long-rehearsed, and heavily funded attack such as 9/11 on our soil is evidence to me that we are safer. Domestic plots we see today are hastily conceived and easier to detect. Before we went to Iraq and Afghanistan, OBL and his base were at leisure to patiently recruit, fund-raise, train, and infiltrate. Thanks to our military, this leisure has been stripped away, and the enemy is resorting to much cruder tactics, such as roadside bombs. On a battlefield of OUR choosing.

Al Gore could not be any more dismissive of evidence contrary to his Global Warming beliefs

Yeah, I'm dismissive of nakedly leftist, agenda-driven "journalism". Al Gore, too.

Go USA (This is NOT a sis, boom, bah sporting event!

You sneer in your way, I'll celebrate in my way.

Iraqi-centric belief system:

1) All roads start in Iraq.
2) All roads end in Iraq.
3) The Sun revolves around Iraq.
4) The moon revolves around Iraq.
5) The stars revolve around Iraq.
6) If the United States does not keep sufficient troop mass in Iraq, the orbital stability of the Earth will become unbalanced and all Muslim terrorists will slide into America.

Do you know anybody who holds the Iraqi-centric belief system you described?

It looks to me that the locals were having a "Hafla", party, for our troops. Not too different from our Maronite traditions, right down to the Dabka (line dance)!

When I put my clothes in the washer I don't get impatient because water level hasn't been reached and the machine can't really do it's job yet.

If you are saying that you don't understand why our war plans are announced to the whole world, you'll get no argument from me. It is absolutely STUPID to announce to the baddies when, where, and how we are going to attack them.

Protracting a war.....is the US protracting this war? I don't think so. If anyone is protracting this war, it is the bad guys. So, the theory applies to them, not us.

I will have you know that I have a "friend" who is a direct descendant of Sun Tzu, so I know what I am talking about!

He has taught me many things very well and he is even smarter than his ancestor was.

Build a man a fire, he will be warm for a night, set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

All warfare is based on deception. Hey, what's that behind you?

In the practical art of war, you must be prepared to fight at any time in the future. In the impractical art of war, you should have been prepared quite some time ago, and it's probably already too late. You're screwed.

Losing a war is the surest path to defeat in war.

If your enemy wins the war, you are defeated.

Remember Sun Tzu said protracted war. I don't think that he would necessarily have anything against periodic battles of opportunity.

profitsbeard, does this look familiar to you?

"You allow the conquered nation to set up their own anti-secular Constitution, and this is the result.
The groundwork was on sand, so no structure will stand.
Islam is a foundation for nothing but war.
Against each other and everyone else.
We needed a Black Jack Pershing.
We got a Headless Horseman."

Is four years and 4 months and counting, with no end in sight, other than when Bush leaves office protracted for America?

I would say yes.

WWII, for America, lasted less than 4 years.

"We need to get leaders who understand it."

Your name rings a bell. Did you ever post at Jihad Watch?

MB4-

Is four years "protracted"?

Then we benefited from WW II, eh?

Sun Tzu is a good generalist, but we're fighting a 1350 year old imperialistic cult.

We need to get leaders who understand it.

Meanwhile, killing jihadis at every opportunity is a necessity.

And eventually we'll have a paradise without them.

csdeven - "The surge is under way and needs more time."

The "Surge" has been under way since February. It has been a "Rolling Surge" and while it would not be completely fair to give the start month as February, it is not fair at all to say as Bush has "We just started".

It may not even make sense to call it a "surge".

Surge: A sudden, transient increase.

It was not sudden and I do not think that if Bush prevails that the "surge" will be anything like transient.

"In conflict, straightforward actions generally lead to entanglement, surprising actions generally lead to victory."
- Sun Tzu

"There has never been a protracted war from which a country has benefited."
- Sun Tzu

"Why jihadis love science" (One of the stories at top of HotAir).

Jihadis (the most loyal of Mohammad's followers) love science because their Perfect Man Mohammad was himself, among so many other things, a GREAT scientist himself.

Bukhari:V9B87N115 “If you spit on the left side of your bed the bad dream will not harm you.”

hari:V7B71N590 “The climate of Medina did not suit some people so the Prophet ordered them to drink camel urine as a medicine.”

Bukhari:V2B21N245 “A person slept in and missed the morning prayer. So the Prophet said, ‘Satan urinated in his ears.’”

Bukhari:V4B54N516 “The Prophet said, ‘If anyone rouses from sleep and performs ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then blow it out thrice because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his nose all the night.’”

These are but a small sampling of Mohammad's many great contributions to science.
