He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He took a drama class in his junior year, chiefly as a way to meet women. Ford, a self-described “late bloomer”, became fascinated with acting. Toward the end of his college freshman year, he was a member of a folk band called The Brothers Gross, in which he played gutbucket. He, however, did not graduate from Ripon.

I may not agree with the man’s politics, but speaking as a person on the fringes of the music industry, I gotta give him props just on the gutbucket.

His acting? I usually enjoy that also. When he’s in a good movie. And there is no denying he has created two of the most iconic characters in film history.And ya gotta admit. Harrison Ford was an order of magnitude better Jack Ryan than he of yelling father fame.

IOW; I can appreciate the craftmanship of the artist, all the while loathing (yes, i feel that strongly ) their politics.

I can also respect, and would defend,those people who chose to make their own political statement by essentially boycotting certain artists.

I just think they’re missing out on some very good work(s).

Hehehe…thanks for the memories MirCat, I loved the Muppets, especially Animal! I remember seeing that show with Rita Moreno and Animal when it originally aired.

I also liked Beaker and the hapless Scientist…”oh nooo….nooo…nnnnoooooo….kaboooom!” Kind of reminds me of some of the hapless jihadists lately, only the jihadist aren’t funny…..

As for a new Indi movie, I’d be up for it as long as there are more scenes of him shooting dead sword wielding turbin wearing middle easterners..I can never get enough of that!

He was also a carpenter, and is one of the few Hollywood actors to have had an actual, real job outside of college and acting. Nowadays film stars get plucked from model agencies without ever experiencing real life. It was probably the case back in the day, but there were at least a few actors – Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson etc, – who actually did something in their twenties besides attend premieres. Ford isn’t as tough as those manly men but he does have a proper skill. If you were trapped on a desert island with him, he could build a hut.

There was a computer game a few years ago, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, set in the 1950s. The baddies were the Russians, and it was odd hearing Indy moan about the damn Commies. I suppose he’s a friend of freedom rather than one particular ideology, although the character is or was an academic university type. It’ll be hard finding a sufficiently outlandish, cartoonish baddy in post-WW2 times.

#1-Indy digs for Native American artifacts and stumbles upon an e-e-e-evil Eisenhower Administration-plan that ties into Roswell, Area 51, and every other idiotic government conspiracy since the 1940s.
#2-The non-partisan Council on Foreign Relations ask Indy to find King David’s temple robe because they cannot make the Ark of the Covenant work correctly without it. Of course, the CFR agents are acutally members of the military-industrial complex who really want the Ark as the American answer to the Soviet doomsday nuke.

The IESB site “Karl” linked to lends some credence to these rumors, but you’re all kidding yourselves if you think that there won’t be some form of Republican-hating in Indy 4…a movie that takes place during the e-e-e-e-e-evil McCarthyite reign of terror.

They’ve been on the Big Island filming this week.

Man, I was there a couple of months ago. Took a flight around the island. The pilot told us Ford has an expensive house on the West coast, but I guess they want the lusher locations on the East coast.

I like the Indy movies. They remind me of the old serial films they used to play in the movie theaters when I was a kid. Good story line and just plain fun. The way movies should be.

So what’s your point? If it’s that any movie with a registered Dem in it sucks, than you’re gonna be limited to about half of a real small shelf at Blockbuster.

Ford may be a leftard, but he keeps his mouth shut and is generally a decent and professional guy. Plus, he *is* Indy.
