Video: BBC bias takes a turn for the stupid

They offer apologies galore for a five-second clip which suggested erroneously that the queen had stormed out of a photo shoot after being told by Annie Leibowitz to lose the tiara. Apologies for having members of Hamas on their payroll, though? Not so much, not so much.

The first clip shows “the incident,” the second clip showcases the hand-wringing while noting that this isn’t the only ethical lapse the Beeb has had lately. Needless to say.

Update: Thanks to Biased BBC for the second clip.

I always wonder what other stupid thing they could do, but I need to stop doing that, because they always manage to surprise me.

Anybody surprised?

At least they have some standards. On a side note, our boy from Crawford looked quite classy in the clip.

I want to hate the BBC; really, I do.

But they gave us Dr Who!

Kensington on July 12, 2007 at 10:15 PM

Well I have finished watching the clip but from what I’ve heard the Queen is going to “walk out Iraq” .

amend2 on July 12, 2007 at 10:19 PM

We are not amused.

JackStraw on July 12, 2007 at 10:21 PM

They seriously spent 5 entire minutes apologizing over and over again. Stupid is right.

nailinmyeye on July 12, 2007 at 10:25 PM

With what pompousity the 2nd video wraps up “…we must look at the last 2 years to conclude that in absolutely know way we deceive the publich”. The BBC is as delusional as Diane Sawyer and our media. Heck, probably as most all media.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer enterprise, though.

Still – significance = zero, beyond the Schadenfreude that is is the BBC.

Entelechy on July 12, 2007 at 10:26 PM

Just put the impatient Prince Harry in charge and be done with it.

Entelechy on July 12, 2007 at 10:27 PM

The Beeb certainly took a turn for the stupid, but what about Annie Leibowitz? How stupid (or arrogant?) do you have to be to not review the protocols for interacting with a crowned head of state?

Kimmer on July 12, 2007 at 10:28 PM

Imagine if our MSM spent any minutes apoligizing over all the hundreds of stories they exagerate, misrepresent, overplay….

The BEEB has done this before, and they only do it because they get nearly all their funding from the yearly fees paid by everyone who owns a TV set in the UK, and from govt subsidies. So, occasionally, they wear sackcloth & ashes

They are a ‘government corporation’ a mutant cross between ‘NPR’ and Pravda, ideologically to left of Stalin

Janos Hunyadi on July 12, 2007 at 10:42 PM

“The BBC is investigating (or someone is) to what other news may have been altered?” The investigators would be better served to search for news that was actually real rather than the tripe they put on. Oh, and telling the Queen how to dress by an ignorant boob is beyond the pale. Stupid is as stupid does and Annie and the BBC could not have done a better job of showing their classless stupidity!!

sharinlite on July 12, 2007 at 10:44 PM

I’m a Republican and I always will be but seeing the BBC trying to delegitmise the Queen of England fills me with despair. They’ll toss any out and every British institution in order to replace it with a bland, “caring” socialist nullity. I’m glad they had to eat humble pie. I’d like to shove it down their throats.

aengus on July 12, 2007 at 10:46 PM

“As Her Majesty stormed out of the photoshoot, past a man in a green helmet holding what appeared to be the petrified remains of a young boy… ”

.

The Machine on July 12, 2007 at 10:48 PM

That should read:

“They’ll toss out any and every British institution “

aengus on July 12, 2007 at 10:48 PM

I wonder if Che-Che cries when the BBC abuses the Queen.

Suddenly it is revealed to be deliberately manipulating its images to dupe the public. At a stroke, the trust it engenders has been shattered. And over the Queen, of all people!

If it transposes a picture sequence like this to sex up a story about the Queen by transmitting an outright falsehood, just think what it is doing in the Middle East.

thedecider on July 12, 2007 at 10:38 PM

You mean the Communist Broadcast Corp. decider? I didn’t leave them out – just lumped them in with “most other media”. There are hardly exceptions to the pack. Agree though that the CBC, BBC int’l and CNN int’l are some of the worst. Of course not to forget the NYT, Reuters, the AP – heck, if we list, we’ll forget a bad one again. Regards,

Entelechy on July 12, 2007 at 11:21 PM

The Beeb is one big huge clusterf**k of ethical and journalistic lapses. Actually, to say they have lapses implies that there are times when they display journalistic integrity. What would be a news story would be one that would begin, “Today the BBC actually covered a story using proper journalistic techniques and standards. Film at eleven.” Even “Today the BBC actually covered a story,” would stop the presses in many capitals. Til then let “the Beeb,” stand for “Britain’s Effete Editorial Board.”

Effete, definition #2, by Wikipedia,

Marked by self-indulgence, triviality, or decadence: an effete group of self-professed intellectuals.

Is that not the Beeb to a T?

I actually like New Who even more than Classic Who. Sure it’s a bit lefty, but the original series was, too. At least the new version is emotionally engaging.

Dickie Arbiter Needs To Remove That TIE!

Mazztek on July 12, 2007 at 11:40 PM

The BBC needs to stay on their own side of the Atlantic when it comes on comentary on US politics. These twits come on PBS and ramble on about our government. They ruined their country now they are trying to infect the US with their islamic/communist/liberal agenda. I say bugger off!

sonnyspats1 on July 12, 2007 at 11:43 PM

Wait! I want to hear more about the BBC having to pay a fine for being misleading in the “blue peter competition”.

Seriously, How can they produce, edit and broadcast something and then turn around and say they don’t know how it happened?

Guardian on July 13, 2007 at 12:12 AM

The BBC attacking Bush and the Queen? Never!!! Not this beacon of socalist superiority.
Next thing , you guys will be accusing the CBC of going soft on terrorist,or some such thing.
My goodness!!! The world we live in.

Was that a peeved Corgi I saw hanging from the reporter’s inguinal region?

profitsbeard on July 13, 2007 at 12:49 AM

Typical MSM, even for the UK.

The Queen has endured much more than anyone realizes. (Unless there are those who actually read history nowadays!)

This phot-hog Annie-whatever sounds like a dragster to me. If this photo of the Queen is the one Annie actually took, it really sucks! Too much light on the one side of the Queen. Good Lord! I could take a much better picture and be more respectful!

SouthernPride on July 13, 2007 at 1:56 AM

For anyone who watched the apology clip straight through and was curious:

“Blue Peter” is a UK kids’ show. Get your minds out of the gutter.

(Anyone know what the contest irregularity that cost them a L50000 fine may have been?)

Captain Scarlet on July 13, 2007 at 7:20 AM

Most Americans would be amazed to know that the Brits are compelled to pay for the BBC. In fact, they have to pay a fee (tax) to even own a TV. It’s called the TV License and you can read more about it here:

A colour TV Licence costs £135.50 and a black and white licence costs £45.50

When I had to move to the U.K. for work years ago (late 1990s, thankfully repatriated back to the State), the TV Licensing Bureau sent me a letter saying that if I owned a TV I was required to pay for this sh-toopid License. When you pay for the license, you get some kind of cable box. The thing is that you only get “basic” TV stations (including the BBC. in fact, the TV License Bureau is run by the Beeb.)

I was so flabbergasted, indeed morally outraged at the notion that I pay for this TV License (tax), that I told them I did not own a TV. They did not believe me and I was forced to “hide” my TV when they sent some clip-board wielding pinhead to my flat to check up on me.

Over the course of my first six months in the UK, they continued to harass with correspondence demanding that I pay for the TV License, to which I always said “I don’t own a TV.” They finally gave up and left me alone.

For me, it wasn’t so much that the TVL was unaffordable. It was the principle of the whole situation. I refused to pay some compulsory tax for something which, in my view, I should not have to pay for.

Anyway, I did not have time to watch TV over there any way, and boy am I glad that not a single pence of my hard earned money went to subsidize those jackholes at the TV Licensing Bureau and the Beeb…

And further, their programming sucks too.

When I’m in the UK, I just put the TV on SkyNews and leave it there.

I always preferred “Horton Hears a Who” myself, but I’m a Dr. Seuss fan.

On topic: The Queen should gather all of the BBC executives in a audience before her, loudly scream “Off with their heads!” and then hand them over to her royal guards.

One of these days I’m going to figure out that blankety-blank-blank quote button.

I understand that the BBC has gotten quite sophisticated in their ability to sniff out unlicensed televisions. I believe they have surveillance vehicles that are actually able to detect televisions, that drive around all day long doing nothing but trying to detect unlicensed television sets.

Any Brits care to confirm or deny?

Kensington on July 13, 2007 at 11:11 AM

They also gave us Benny Hill, does that help [you hate the BBC]?

Hell, no! Benny Hill seemed to embody the American spirit more patriotically than your typical American Democrat.

I’d take a Benny Hill over a Harry Reid any day.

Yes asking the Queen to remove her Crown is a bit arrogant lol

And the best part? I have to pay a TV tax to subsidise this sh*t. Not that I’m a huge fan of HRH, but the Biased Broadcasting Communists are just gutter scum.
