I don't believe it. It's certainly plausible that Al Qaeda could revive itself in Waziristan but it's implausible that they could sport open facilities like they did in Afghanistan for training terrorists. Most important, the flow of money from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere around the Gulf have been severely crimped by the Treasury Department and FBI. That alone would reduce Al Qaeda to a fraction of its pre-Sep 11 size.

I hate to hear this blather about playing defense. We shouldn't be following these radicals around hoping to find out where they will attack us. We should be assassinating them when we can reach them. That's why we have a CIA. If our spies can make it look like one radical faction is rubbing out the other, so much the better. Maybe these Wahhabi fanatics will start killing each other off and do some of our work for us.

We have shown Islam, China and anyone else who wishes to kill Americans that we are an impatient, Godless, self centered society just waiting to surrender if the price is right.

The heroes that protect us and sacrifice to save our country are painted as uneducated, criminal losers who die on a regular basis while Americans back home focus on new cell phones and scream bloody murder when fuel costs jump thirty cents.

We refuse to ignore, punish or shun the Liberals who rot this country away from the inside and our leaders are afraid of losing votes while blasting our primitive Jihad enemy off the face of the planet.

No wonder we present an easy target. We fight over everything from extreme points of view and all the brave and best our culture produced lately are fighting in Iraq and Afganistan, and nobody cares what they have learned.

They "CIA" could not quantify AQ strength before 9-11. I am dubious they can make a comparative strength assessment now.

Surely all the frisking of Caucasoid octogenarians in our air terminals have made some dent in Al Qaeda strength.

The most likely scenario, CIA is acquiring these figures directly from their anal orifice.

After reading this blog entry and the comments associated with it, I was very concerned.

Then I read the CBS article itself. It reads:

"U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al Qaeda has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The Associated Press has learned...."

This is the same Associated Press that hires Al Qaeda "stringers" to make up stories about US attrocities and cover up Al Qaeda ones, right? So when did THEY become credible again?

CBS is the same news organization that attempted to use fake anti-Bush documentation in the 2004 election and was caught at it. I must have missed the meeting where we agreed to accept what SeeBS says as the literal truth.

My take on this article is that it is PRO-AL QAEDA PROPAGANDA, and nothing else. And like all propaganda, its sole purpose to to advance an agenda. And in concert with what the MSM has been doing all along, the agenda is to sabotage the war effort.

These same so-called "news" organizations refer to a leaked report from an unnamed official who claims:

"They are showing greater and greater ability to plan attacks in Europe and the United States."

So ask yourself this question: do you want the TRUTH or do you want the NEWS?

We know about the "peace agreement" between Musharraf and the Taliban. And we were told within the last week that it had unraveled. No doubt, in light of the mosque raid, that US and NATO forces will be assaulting some Al Qaeda strongholds in Pakistan, with Pakistan's consent (even if implicit).

So what is one to make of these stories [Remember, it's NEWS, not necessarily the TRUTH]?

"FUD."

Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.

We are seeing a multifront pro-Al Qaeda propaganda assault on America by the MSM trying to sell TWO stories [neither of which are the TRUTH, but the NEWS].

Story 1: Bush is incompetent, and by extension, ALL REPUBLICANS as well. The idea is to panic the nation into buying into whatever the Democrats are selling on the Iraq war, and to parley it into electorial victory in 2008. This translates to immediate withdrawal. Of course, the Democrats have ZERO ideas on what to do next, because they are incompetent on defense.

And if Al Qaeda does strike, it will give the Democrats the opportunity to immediately impeach Bush and Cheney as incompetent and install Pelosi as President. Why wait until 2008 and what will be a 'messy' election.

Story 2: The message of the MSM is that we can't win militarily under ANY circumstances. So don't even try. Treat this threat as POLICE/CRIMINAL matter, or simply absorb the deaths and property damage and "move on." Try to negotiate with bin Laden. See what he REALLY wants, and then give it to him. Find out what his price is. After all, the war on terror IS NOTHING BUT A BUMPER STICKER SLOGAN (so says the Democrats and the media).

Will Al Qaeda attack us?

They'll try, certainly. This has been a no-brainer since 9/11/01. And the MSM/Democrats hope that they *do* try and actually succeed. Why? See above. The Democrats are willing to see Americans die if they can get a political advantage in the process. Of this I have no doubt because I don't have to "question" their patriotism -- I know that they don't have any!

But things are not as they were in 2001. As a whole, the security agencies are not as complacent as they were then. While we know of some plots that have been busted up, I am certain that there are many, many others that have not been publicized. We'll probably never hear of them.

And the plots that "succeeded" in the UK were of almost no consequence, in comparison to the attack on 9/11/01. No thousands of dead, which is what the Islamofascists wanted and hoped to achieve.

And, in retrospect, in opposition to the point of the SeeBS article, the competency of the Al Qaeda in the UK borders on blithering idiocy. So far.

I expect that they'll keep trying, though. As the saying goes, we have to be successful EVERY DAY to prevent an attack. They only have to be successful once. No doubt they will get lucky and be successful, again, some time in the future, unless we destroy them before hand.

Which is why the Democrats are pushing so hard to force us to withdraw. If the Treason Party can force us out of Iraq, the vacuum will give Al Qaeda a large part of Iraq to control. That is when Al Qaeda bounces back and becomes a bigger threat than in 2001. Unlike the poor tribal mountain villages of Pakistan, Al Qaeda will have the resources of an oil-rich, mostly-industrial state to use to organize, train in, and launch terrorist attacks upon Europe and the United States. And they will have tons of ordinance scattered around Iraq left over from Saddam's era to use against us.

And, most chilling of all, they'll have AQ Kahn's network to complete the job Saddam started in developing nuclear weapons.

The traitors in the Democrat Party and the mainstream media are incapable of seeing that an Iraq without an ongoing US military presence fighting Al Qaeda will result in an Al Qaeda mini-state that will become a major national security threat in very short order. And that this threat will be orders of magnitude of that of the old Al Qaeda living in poor and backward Afghanistan with the Taliban as allies. And once the Democrats force us out of Iraq, they will take great pains to insure that, under no circumstances, will the US be allowed to intervene against this Al Qaeda mini-state. That's what they did in Vietnam, and traitors, like skunks, cannot change their stripes.

So, I'm not going to obsess over this NEWS (not TRUTH) story. If Al Qaeda does get lucky and strike as hard as they did in 2001, I expect the "peace" candidates of both parties to take it on the chin.

My 2 cents.

Well we are ready for them this time, we won’t be sucker-punched again at least. And this is the final nail in Bush’s “legacy”. The man is a disgrace

Give it a rest.......

It was Bush or Gore, then Bush or Kerry
politics, life: bitter choices

saying that Bush isn't Reagan is pointless

Like his father, Bush seems to be tired of being POTUS;
that's disappointing and demoralizing in 2007, but think 2008

I'm no lettucehead, but my gut feelings are something big is coming down the pike and it aint gonna be pretty. They want to make 9-11 look like a picnic, which requires a lot of time and resources to plan and implement (think WMD's). Once they get all the pieces in place, boom! I suspect sleeper cells are here and just waiting for the word. They are patient. We've grown complacent and have done little to secure the homeland.

Keep your powder dry and be vigilant. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best! Thank the Founding Fathers for the 2nd amendment!

There in lies the problem. To quote Jeff Snyder, “We are a Nation of Cowards”.

The majority are more concerned with watching American Idol, remodeling their homes, and getting paid on Friday and will wiat for another to do something. They haven’t faced the need for survival.

The examples you gave are of pedestrian complacency, not cowardice. I don't see a lotta cowardice: I see indifference, willfull indifference, and of course, the Large Chorus of Useful Idiots ( including the entire CNN building, whose walls oughta Come Tumbling Down )

The problem is NOT that most people only want to Get By: in every society in almost every era, most people only want to Get By.

The problem is.....Way Too Many Useful Idiots. You can't reason with them, and it's still illegal to shoot them. So even if most people would let 'Those Who See the Looming Danger' act to protect them, the Useful Idiots would prevent us, negate us, etc

I'm getting de-pressed: I should go watch another re-run of Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel. That's not haram, is it?

Whether it's this summer or later on, you have to figure that sooner or later, we'll get hit again. Our borders are still too porous, our visa program still too loosey-goosey to prevent enough infiltrators from gaining entry. Heck, they could have a small army ensconced here by now for all we know.

The more interesting question is what happens after the event. Some possibilities:

1. Say goodbye to Musharraf. He only dodged a bullet after 9/11 by agreeing to turn on the Taliban, which up to that time his government had been openly supporting; but by allowing the "tribal areas" of Pakistan to devolve into the next Terrorist Disneyland, he's sealed his own fate. If the terrorists aren't eventually successful in assassinating him, we'll brush him aside when it comes time to clean house after the next 9/11.

2. We'll have a wonderful opportunity to see if the American Left has any remaining sense of irony whatsoever. After doing all in their power to hamstring our ability to monitor and detect terrorist networks here and abroad in the name of "Civil Liberties," watch what their reactions will be when after the next 9/11 we show them what it really means to profile people and deprive them of their precious freedoms. And they won't be able to say a word about it, because the crackdown will have the full blessing of a significant majority of the American public.

AQ was between 500-1500 personnel before 9/11, so it's not that much of a stretch to say they're back at pre-9/11 levels. The stretch is to say they can accomplish the same tasks. Their current roster of terrorists arn't the cadre of 2001, something the Japs also had a problem with in WW2 after their top airmen were killed and couldn't train new recruits.

The difference is AQ is based upon the franchise (you know the "affiliated" crap) and they don't have their best game face anymore.

But hey, seriously, haven't we heard this song and dance before? "High levels of chatter." "Al Qaeda 2.0." Isn't this show a repeat? It seems like every summer this is the news. AP - help me out here with your mad research skillz. How many times have we seen this episode followed by diddly squat?

Doom and gloom makes for good comments. After all, it's easy and even fun sometimes. But this is like the 5th time they've slapped us around with that "unspecified but increased level of threat" stuff. The odds of any attack here in the US are still extremely small.

I know, I know, jihadists websites and emails and reconstituted camps and increased recruiting and all the rest. But realistically, is it gonna happen this year? Next? I'm not betting on it. Are you?

Wraith:

Perhaps, but rumors weren't exactly in short supply in those early frantic moments of Sept 11. Yet, no race riots.

I was rather surprised at the unity following Sept. 11, though I was sure it wouldn't last too long. Should it happen a second time, we might see another Throw the Bums Out election, and the replacements, I admit, may be whatever-it-takes-damn-the-consequence types, that will certainly not to whatever it takes, and instead be bogged down with simplistic nonsense that gets even more people killed, and the citizenry more apathetic.

We'll just to back to sleep, but quicker this time.

The AQ reincarnation is probably true but not because Iraq (Iraq is sapping huge Jihadi resources that would could be directed elsewhere, everyone agrees that the majority of mass casualty suicide bombers are AQ recruits). The reincarnation is a direct result of the Pakistani Army's defeat in the field and withdraw from Warizistan. Terrorist must have a secure area to train plan for terrorist strikes.

Was it not just months ago when Dullah's replacement posted video on the web of a brand new class of Jihadi's to be deployed to the West. Was that video filmed in Iraq were US forces are just looking for such targets or Warizistan were Paki Nukes are securing AQ a training locals?

If the Americans suffer another regime-threatening attack, it seems important that afterwards among the dead there be found in large numbers the men who have done the most to undercut the Americans' morale and warmaking.

AZ_Redneck on July 11, 2007 at 10:31 PM
Oh yeah. Any hot blooded American caught committing a crime against a mosque would be crucified, even further dividing the country. Places with high concentrations of Muslims, like parts of Michigan, would be particularly vulnerable to internal strife. Especially, God forbid, if any video leaks out about cheering among even a small number of Muslims anywhere in the US.

Donald Horowitz, in his book The Deadly Ethnic Riot, studied riots all over the world going back decades. He lists several prerequisites for deadly ethnic riots. Near the top of that list is Rumor. These rumors spread like wildfire and are often based on a kernel of truth that is exaggerated or misconstrued. If any Muslims anywhere in the US end up on video cheering, the next step is for a particular mob in a particular place to accept the rumor as fact: that it was those Muslims over there who were cheering, when in fact it may have been a few drunk a-holes thousands of miles away. The truth wouldn't matter in such stressful, crazy moments. Especially in a large crowd. As the rumors spread they change, always for the worse. It is easier to mobilize a crowd inspired by a disturbing rumor. Horowitz details how this dynamic occurs over and over again all around the world. And communications technology, especially mobile phones and text devices, make it easier to spread rumors even faster and wider. We call them flash-mobs when they are fun. We'll call them lynch mobs when they are deadly. By the way, the summer is the best time for mob violence.

The response to the next attack, if it comes this summer, will be extra-stupid ugly. Stay inside and lock the doors.
