Audio: Ingraham interviews “newcomer” about planned boycott of conservative talk radio

He’s a newcomer in the Bushian sense, not in the literal sense as Ingraham dramatically proves towards the end of the clip. It’s Elias Bermudez, self-proclaimed (moderate) Republican and president of the Phoenix chapter of Inmigrantes Sin Fronteras, which is eschewing the La Raza tactic of targeting anti-amnesty lawmakers and instead organizing a national boycott of advertisers on those “generators of simplicity,” right-wing talk radio. He’s all in favor of walls and fences, so he says, but not so much in favor of other people who are in favor of walls and fences.

I wonder if he’s still a Republican after this interview.

I heard this live and thought I would die when he said “he was a Republican”, which I’m sure is his standard tag line when he’s interviewed. It’s great to have law breakers tell us what they’re going to do and how we have to kowtow to their wishes.

I wish the illegal contingent would just work harder at boycotting America.

Ah, the famous “my dad was a pastor” argument. The Orthodox Prebyterian Church won’t even admit illegal immigrants into membership because they’ve disobeyed civilian authorities.

PRCalDude on July 11, 2007 at 7:50 PM

Laura Ingraham is one of the shining stars of the anti-amnesty movement. I loved it when she told Tony Snow “Nobody believes you.”

As far as Elias Bermudez is concerned, the guy is a liar. His little trojan horse ploy is unimpressive, as is his diction.

I feel like a jerk for even drawing attention to his accent. I acknowledge that failing in myself. But our country has reached critical mass and rationality only seems to beget a federal finger pointed at me.

Here’s another tidbit. Drug money represents blood money. There are countless deaths and broken families behind every dollar of drug money.

The Race Card on July 11, 2007 at 7:57 PM

Wait did he say the govt. came after him because of his politics?…Oh so even though the govt. makes no attempt to seal the borders of this country they somehow feel the need to frame him for something…

EnochCain on July 11, 2007 at 7:57 PM

I wonder if he’s still a Republican after this interview.

I doubt he was one before. Too bad he won’t boycott the United States.

Dude, it’s not a speech impediment. The guy just never bothered to learn how to speak English worth a crap.

And for someone who’s claiming to be the Poster Child for Why Illegal Immigration Is A Great Thing, that happens to be a perfectly VALID criticism.

More on Elias Bermudez:

‘Saint’ Elias Bermudez
By J-P. A. Maldonado, Desert Foothills
On Sunday, Oct. 16 the Republic published an article by Daniel Gonzalez (“Immigration group delays big fundraising concert”) which, rather than just an article, constituted a virtual hagiography of Elias Bermudez. According to Gonzalez’ account, Bermudez is a mixture of Simon Bolivar, Jose de San Martin, Benito Juarez and our very own Jorge Guachinton and Tomas Yeferson, all rolled into one! Let us take a look at the man in whose care $50,000 destined for a concert in Glendale dwindled down to less than $10,000. He blames Hurricane Katrina – but wait! Didn’t the hurricane strike the Gulf Coast, some 1,500 miles away? It could be a coincidence, but there is an Elias Bermudez, an illegal immigrant, who was named a defendant on several violations of farm workers’ rights and the Fair Labor Standards Act; the same man served a federal sentence for conspiracy to launder monetary instruments; the same man was subject to another indictment, plea-bargained away, of conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine; this same man, a convicted felon, owns a liquor license for a bar in Cottonwood, and is using another immigrant as front man.
If reporter Gonzalez wants to file an unbiased story concerning Bermudez, perhaps he should unearth details about the latter’s record, including jail sentences, pleabargains and illegal presence in the USA, and perhaps tell us whether the convicted felon I describe happens to be the same saintly Elias Bermudez who made most of $50,000 disappear into clear air.

PRCalDude on July 11, 2007 at 8:04 PM

Does he really think that moderate Republican = liberal open borders advocate? Nevermind answered that myself.

Buzzy on July 11, 2007 at 8:06 PM

Gee…can you tell that Laura is a lawyer?

It must suck to have a lawyer for a mom:

“I don’t care what Tommy’s mother said. That’s irrelevant. All that matters is that you took the cookie after I told you not to”

Laura will you marry me???

jcmorris on July 11, 2007 at 8:07 PM

Good job Laura. This guy is nothing but a freaking criminal, leading a whole group of freaking criminals! And he has the stones to claim we need all these criminals here! What an unbelievable load of bullshit. How these people gain any credibility with anyone is mind-boggling.

Immigrants Without (Our) Borders.

If there are no borders, there are no immigrants.

Because there are no countries.

And no laws.

And chaos.

And doom.

Bermudez is looking for a solution for America’s immigration “problem”.

Unfortunately, it is

The Final Solution for America.

Plus he’s a criminal infil-traitor and scofflaw.

“We do not have the political power… yet. We don’t have the votes… yet.”

“I think that this country sooner or later will have to realize that whether you like it or not, whether you care or not, because you truly don’t care about this country… come to a point that you are going to have to make that law [amnesty] because we need these people.”

They don’t have the political power yet? Whether we like it or not?

Has this guy already been amnestied or can we still send him back? Is it wrong of me to feel this way when a foreign national, (or virtual foreign national), speaking on behalf of other foreign nationals who’ve invaded our country, try to dictate what America can and can’t do?

I don’t think it’s wrong. I don’t feel like a bigot, I feel like a patriot. I LIKE Mexican’s and hope to visit their country again some day, but when I do it will be legally.

FloatingRock on July 11, 2007 at 8:30 PM

Cool;
Until I heard to Elias I had no idea that Illegal Aliens come here, not because their country of origin is so bad that they have to leave to have a decent life; they come here only to do us a favor….

Amazing what important political and economic lessons one can learn from a multiple felon.

And , wow, Laura Ingraham hates America.
OK, I had my suspicions about her when President Bush, Linda Chavez and John McCain said so, but now that it is confirmed by this pillar of integrity and wisdom, I have to believe it.

LegendHasIt on July 11, 2007 at 8:32 PM

He does make an excellent point:

I stayed because someone offered me a job.

Which would be the crux of the problem.

By the way, don’t be ridiculous. His English is great, give him that. There is a wealth of relevant things to attack him on.

SouthernDem on July 11, 2007 at 8:36 PM

How can you be a Republican if you are an Illegal Immigrant?
The last time I read the Constitution you had to be a Legal Citizen to register to vote, which means you can then affiliate yourself with a political party. Am I missing something here?

I loved the bit about them having to leave Arizona by the end of the year. Hopefully they will all head in the same direction. SOUTH!!!

What a jerk.

So they are going to stop working for a week in Sept. Well, if my employees do/did that they would not have a job to come back to. When many went on strike last year for a day one restaraunt that closed in our town had very little business for quite awhile after that. They hurt for a long time. Oh well, in the end I think they will hurt themselves more than anyone else.

boomer on July 11, 2007 at 9:20 PM

Good, I hope they do stop working for a week. By seeing which businesses are impacted we can tell who is hiring illegals. Then we’ll know better where to spend our money.

Bad Penny on July 11, 2007 at 9:40 PM

I heard this live too, and hey,if they wanna go on strike (boycott)-hell, let them do it. We survived before them, and we will after. Just hope they ALSO boycott hospital emergency rooms, public schools, welfare offices, etc, etc, . That will more than even things out. Maybe they will boycott drunk driving, rape, robbery and murder too. This will give our court/prison system a break.
If they boycott talk radio, the only stations that will be affected are the screamin’-meemie Spanish ones that waste a lot of air time bloviating on how powerful they are as a racial group, and how “soon, soon” they will be the majority, and do with us as they will. Why would anyone worry about people boycotting radio stations whose English language they cant even understand?

Ah, the famous “my dad was a pastor” argument. When I was in high school (over 15 yrs ago) I knew a pastor’s son. He was the wildest, hardest partying, drug dealing, and drug doing S.O.B. I had ever met in my life. His father and two church elders came home early from a spiritual retreat to a HUGE kegger in the pastor’s home.

Paul the American on July 11, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Elias Bermudez … We get to see, hear, or read his tripe just about every other day on the in Arizona.

Someone else mentioned it, but I am with ya. I want them to stay away from work in September. I hope they do it for a month. I want to see which businesses are left standing.

AZ_Redneck on July 11, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Janos Hunyadi on July 11, 2007 at 10:28 PM

Immigrants Without (Our) Borders

Exactly. Mexico’s government is much more protective of their borders than we are of ours.

Too bad Laura didn’t ask him about Mexico’s immigration laws, under which any non-Mexican in Mexico can be forced to leave, for any reason, if requested by any Mexican citizen. There are quite a few government jobs in Mexico that require the incumbent to be Mexican-born, and some even requiring the incumbent’s parents to be Mexican-born. This even includes jobs in the Catholic clergy. (They don’t have our “separation of church and state”, you know.)

AZ_Redneck on July 11, 2007 at 10:20 PM

I too would like to see the Hispanic poycott of American products and jobs. Why do you think they have never “pulled the trigger” on that tactic? I’ll tell you why. They aren’t nearly as relevant as they wish they were, and they know it. American business is characterized mostly by resilience, borne of freedom. That’s why we’re American and the (socio-political) toilets these people come from to get here aren’t.

It’s a good questions she had at the end, why doesn’t he “boycott” or protest Mexico? Or better yet, effect real political change there? Wouldn’t it be better if, instead of coming here to leech off of our freedom, they just got their own house in order, and competed on their own terms? I would love to have a stable, law-abiding, productive neighbor on our southern border. I would like to see them earn respect, rather than simply making preposterous demands.

urbancenturion on July 11, 2007 at 11:13 PM

Pleased to say, I listen to Laura live most days..now lets stop talking to dirt bags, and focus in on the answer..”Tom Tancrendo” is the answer,,, and is Ted Kennedy, John McInsane, Defense Sec. Jerkoff, WORST nightmare, so what are we waiting for….

I like that…a step further: Let’s surmise what industries/products could be affected & notify everybody, via the net, to stock-up prior to Labor Day, thus giving them no favorable financial data (while supplying us w/ very favorable data)

where was the outrage 10 years ago, we have to fix the boarders, walls more patrol, cameras what ever it takes.
I am all for that, lock them down, its a safty issue.

But Laura, Michelle, Hannity, Rush all these people that i listen to and agree with 99% percent of the time, need to stop acting like ass holes when it comes to the issue. Laura was a pur bitch. No wander radio stations are droping her.

Where is the fight from you guys on what the terriost are saying. We can no become a one issue party, i mean two issue party.

DF

deport him i don’t care. but for people to be so pissed off and acting the way they are is rediculous. the only reason the above mentioned radio and tv types are acting the way they are is it is getting some of them ratings and getting people railed up. 12 mil are here, deal with them, law breakers send them home, cut off welfare programs, shut down the border. but can we act like conservatives, we did in 2006 and we lost both houses, where was the fight then. Outside of those of you that live in texas, cali, and azo that have been fighting this for years, most of you are just getting on the band wagon. the majority of the people here just want to feed their families, thats all. does not mean their right for crossing the border, but have some compassion. i did not say have compasion for the criminals. but majority of them are law abiding good people. its a tough issue. there is no reason to be mean about it.

kara26 on July 12, 2007 at 11:20 AM

Laura should have asked him about what other US law it should be OK to violate.

Blaise on July 12, 2007 at 12:21 PM

Kara26,

I hear what you’re saying Kara. I live about an hour from the border. I live around a lot of Mexicans, legal and illegal. They’re not all good, they’re not all bad but only taking jobs that Americans won’t do is a joke.

The problem is that I love America more than them. I feel that in the quantities that they are coming here they can’t help but be harmful to this great country of ours. Should we increase the legal immigration rates? Maybe.

We will never successfully prosecute all the businesses that hire illegals. Slow them down…. maybe. ID’s will always be counterfitted and remember they don’t have to be perfect because so many employers want them to be real.

The way I see it, a physical barrier and many guards to patrol it is the only hope no matter how ugly it may be. With that in place, maybe one last time, after deporting the criminals, we can excuse those who’s only crime was crossing the border to seek a better life. God bless America and God bless those who love America.

Ernest on July 12, 2007 at 1:06 PM

kara26,

Laura Ingraham IS acting like a Conservative, a true Conservative. From a former Democrat, like myself, I can say without a doubt, Republicans lost the majority in both houses because they didn’t act like Conservatives during their campaigns by supporting the Booosh/Kennedy/McCain/Clinton/Obama AMNESTY SCHEME. However, don’t fret, Democrats are having their own purging as a result of the exposure of all of the AMNESTY supporters as well. I just thank God that YOU AND OTHER AMNESTY SUPPORTERS represent only 20% of the voting population.

DfDeportation on July 12, 2007 at 1:54 PM

When “was” he a Republican? Not apparently in December 2002 when he donated to Democrat Randy Robert Camacho
opensecrets.org is fun that way

clghitis on July 12, 2007 at 3:18 PM

Notice how he mentioned being a politica prisoner. That tells me all I need to know about that guy.

And who in their right mind would actually plead guilty to drug trafficking because he had no choice? Granted, some judges do warn people that if they plead innocent and are later found guilty, it will go hard on them. And some DAs do use bullying tactics and threats to get a confession so that they can clear their calendar of cases not caring if the person is innocent or guilty (I personally know someone who went through that type of threat and that person was innocent).

No, Elias is full of crap and Laura demonstrated that.

I am not an Amnesty Supporter. I don’t believe in it. I want the borders to be closed, welfare programs cut off. Hell i even want doctors to have to report pregnant women that they suspect as being illegal.

My point has been, we have to turn some of this anger aganist the other side on some other issues.

but its the only thing being talked about on talk radio, with the exception of Rush.
The problem is this, if you don’t say what you are saying and they are saying exactly the way your saying it, YOUR WRONG. Do they take jobs from Americans, YES, in some areas of the country. Do the fill jobs Americans WANT DO, YES, in some areas of the country.

there is a need in some places. a problem 20 plus years in the making will not be fixed over night, and it will probally not be strong enough for me.

But I am in NO WAY A AMNESTY SUPPORTER.

the famous Aj

Hey I can get pissed listening to her and say what i want right? She is not on in my neck of the woods any more, maybe they droped her maybe they did not want to pay anymore.

I love her thoughts on most issues and she is right alot about this one, but she just seems to have gotten so mean lately. I never have took her to be so mean. So bitch should not be so bad for her, and i am sure its not. she and others keep saying enforce current law, enforce current law, great but thats not working how about some new ideas comminacated respectfully. You don’t have to agree with Bush to be polite. He has made one statement that i don’t agree with (the one about talk radio) that does nothing to add to the debate. there mite have been more but thats all i have heard. Laura may speak for some but she does not speak for all.

Deport the crimminals, close the borders its going to be hard, but its not as easy as she and others make it out to be.

and i should not have call her a bitch i apologize. tell her to try to be alittle nicer. she has beat our side like a drum over this issue, not that they don’t need some beating some time, but lets beat some dems for awhile.

your right i guess since i have cooled off some today, (at the beach its hot) and have apologized, bitch was an ephemeral victory.
