Video: The UN Human Rights Council’s greatest hits

From the people who brought you the most righteous anti-UN rant this side of John Bolton comes a nifty little highlight reel of the Council safeguarding human rights by turning itself into a megaphone for every bottom-feeding human-rights abuser on the planet. It was formed last March by the General Assembly as an replacement for the UN Commission on Human Rights, which had become too beholden to dictators and terrorists. Ahem.

Exit question: Dave Mustaine gets it. Why can’t we?

That’s all very interesting, but it is to no avail, given that the U.S. shouldn’t be a member of the U.N. in the first place.

Ditto the above!

UN out of the US,
US out of the UN.

A win/win for all.

Wuptdo on July 10, 2007 at 12:56 PM

Our liberal UNophiles will jump right on this subject. Yeah right.

Limerick on July 10, 2007 at 12:58 PM

Ho hum…

What did you say?

The UN is as relevant as the New York Times. Subscribers and people who are paying attention are falling off, way off.

The UN is wasting their time, and eventually.. sooner rather than later, will fall into history’s trash bin.

Mcguyver on July 10, 2007 at 1:01 PM

Dave Mustaine gets it. Why can’t we?

Grounds to start listening to Megadeth instead of Metallica, considering Metallica played Dead Earth.

aclark on July 10, 2007 at 1:03 PM

Why does it seem like all the human rights abusers and enemies of freedom all sound the same in denouncing the US/Israel as if they are all reading from the same cue card?

modnar on July 10, 2007 at 1:07 PM

The inmates are still running the asylum - it would be nice if the MSM would report on this a little. I don’t know what percentage of people know that Sudan is on the “UN Commission on Human Rights”, but everytime I point it out, whoever I’m talking to usually seems pretty shocked ,you know, like Mrs. Braflofsky on South Park: “What?! What?! What?!?!”

forest on July 10, 2007 at 1:16 PM

Can you put a price on peace?

Dave is pretty deep, and a lot smarter the people give him credit for.

liquidflorian on July 10, 2007 at 1:18 PM

It’s getting scary out there folks, first Uncle Ted now Dave Mustaine coming out as staunch conservatives, what the hell is this world coming to…..

doriangrey on July 10, 2007 at 1:22 PM

The UN is a bankrupt organization that has awards evil and represses good. It should have been dissolved ages ago.

pilamaye on July 10, 2007 at 1:53 PM

That was a powerful video.

I’m really, really becoming hopeless about the world.

nailinmyeye on July 10, 2007 at 1:56 PM

What a disgrace. Why exactly are we still in this organization??

Some of us do get it. However, when Bolton was in he brought attention to a lot of this. Whereas, those in congress, and you know who they are, don’t get it. It’s a secular progressive agenda being put forth.

For once, I would like to see a president with the balls to say “The Hell with the UN, we’re OUT”. Just to see what happens.

Why are these people in my country anyway?

Kini on July 10, 2007 at 2:25 PM

There is less anti-Americanism in the Kremlin than in the UN General Assembly. If I was in charge I would tell them to get out immediately, there is plenty of open office space in Mexico. But I wouldn’t be unreasonable, I’d give them till noon tomorrow to get out.

Maxx on July 10, 2007 at 2:26 PM

I appreciate the disgust with the UN that leads to the “get out now sentiment,” but why run from that battle? Why not pressure our leadership to appoint right-thinking ambassadors with backbone? Bolton seemed to have been an abberation. He slipped through the cracks that even Bush has been plugging of late. And we see what became of him after he started speaking his mind.

Friends close, enemies closer, no? Let’s keep the UN somewhere we can keep an eye on it.

Hannibal Smith on July 10, 2007 at 2:46 PM

That was truly chilling.

Hannibal Smith on July 10, 2007 at 2:46 PM

The problem with that is we pay the HIGHEST UN dues and for what. We can keep a close eye on the - through a scope preferably.

How about Gaza, or Cuba, better yet Club Gitmo!

Kini on July 10, 2007 at 2:55 PM

Has anyone thought to point out just how many dollars and what % of the UN budget is paid for by the American taxpayer? It just so happens I have some information regarding that subject. The current operating budget is approx $4.19 billion of which the USA is assessed 22% or approx $920 million. The USA population is currently estimated at 302 million. That translates to slightly over $3 per year for every individual, regardless of taxpaying status. That makes me feel a little better, as does the fact that the USA is in arrears on paying its dues.

Brad on July 10, 2007 at 3:04 PM

Good points all!

Since the UN makes us uncomfortable, then the reciprocal should be practiced.

Move the UN somewhere else where it’s not the worm in the big apple.

Kini on July 10, 2007 at 3:10 PM

Thankfully MN Senator Norm Coleman succumbed to pressure and voted against cloture on amnesty, so now I can vote for him again- he gets it with regards to the UN.

You may not have a problem with your $3 but I do. The UN is the biggest single entity for spreading Islam in the world and, at the same time, the biggest single entity of the suppression of Christianity.

On-my-soap-box on July 10, 2007 at 4:34 PM

P.S. and the biggest single entity of suppressing human rights. Have you seen the video? Been to a third world country with a large UN presence?

On-my-soap-box on July 10, 2007 at 4:37 PM

Isn’t Hollywood butt-sniffer George C. Looney the big celebrity mouthpiece for all things Darfur? Surely Looney will come out and acknowledge that he was mistaken about the UN and it’s member states, and condemn the council in the strongest possible terms?

Jaibones on July 10, 2007 at 4:38 PM

Wait…he’s busy at his chalet at Lake Como, Italy, protesting against the parking facility for tourists, planned nearby.

Jaibones on July 10, 2007 at 4:40 PM

The UN is a disgrace. I don’t want my money going to support it, neither do I want my government authenticating it.

Of course I have a problem with the UN, just as you do; I’m just a little relieved that my share of the support is not too large.

Sorry, 3 cents is too much. There are people in Haiti who work all day for $3. Money well spent in comparison.

On-my-soap-box on July 10, 2007 at 5:04 PM

If anyone wonders where liberalism will lead…just look at the UN.
Just get it out of the U.S.A.

oldernslower on July 10, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Sooo, this is the same UN pack of dunces that elected Saudi Arabia to the Human Rights Council three weeks before 9/11.

Are they being paid to be bovine-stupid idiots, or is it just a talent they were born with?!

aclark on July 10, 2007 at 1:03 PM

Question is, why were you still listeing to Metallica? They haven’t been relevant in over 15 years. At least Megadeth have released a few decent albums in that period. Their new one is pretty good, if nothing extraordinary.

UN Human Rights Council

Current frontrunner in the all-time world oxymoron contest.

Close runner-up is the Brink’s all-fox chicken coop security squad.
