Video: Did Madonna fake it at Live Earth?

posted at 1:01 pm on July 10, 2007 by Allahpundit

The debate rages, and will continue to rage given that the director seems to have been shooting for a 3:1 ratio of long shots to close-ups. We must have some guitarists, or at least “Guitar Hero” aficionados, among the readership. Can I get a ruling here?

There’s a photo at the Telegraph link, FYI, but the only thing it really tells us is that Madonna has granny hands. More enlightening is this piece at the Daily Mail, which is reveling in the Goracle’s disappointment to an enjoyably odd degree.

Update: Whoops, forgot to give you your official content warning for a brief moment of “empowerment” at the beginning.

She is strumming two chords, but volume is down. It’s too timely and dynamic to be her with her method.
A spot later in when the chord structure changes she does not appear to be on.
Many vocalists who fromnt bands oftenuse this “semi-play with the guitar volume down” method. ;)
It works for the girls when watching Garth Brooks etc! ;)

who cares?

urbancenturion on July 10, 2007 at 7:39 PM

…I can hardly believe I was the first to say that

urbancenturion on July 10, 2007 at 7:40 PM

people actually pay to see this twit jump and down like an African Tribesman in Kenya.

Real Original but what is with her yelling in that screeching voice?

ScottyDog on July 10, 2007 at 8:10 PM

I was completely done at “c’mon M— f—s”. How in the world is anyone excited to support by being called a m—- f—-????? Beyond gratuitous. I would have been much more impressed if someone had walked on stage, taken away her guitar and washed her mouth out with soap. What a skank.

deepdiver on July 10, 2007 at 9:38 PM

Faked what? The horrible out of tune screeching? Pretending to be a human? What? Ugh. 50-year-old women pretending to be forever young. Gross.

I’d like to add that I, also, play guitar.

That will be all.

Thank you.

My semi-professional guitar opinion is that she’s actually playing. It’s just two barre chords

The left hand is fine. The right hand is going bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum (Glenn Beck program, Glenn Beck program), but the music is going bum de bum BUUUM, bum de bum BUUUM, bum de bum BUUUM, etc. So left hand okay, right hand nokay imho banjo picker’s opinion.

She’s playing that guitar. Whether or not the sound guys have her signal up in the house is the question

Exactly. Anyway, old granny-hands is a MILPOP, Mother I’d Like to Put Out to Pasture.

Just like with every great boxer, the fear becomes will they retire too late? No fear here–been there, done that, read the book, bought the t-shirt, ate the Happy Meal, passed on the Chinese knock-off.

Live Earth badly needed some metal for fish.

Everytime I see people jumping at a ooncert or to music my mind flashes to a horrible experience. A few years ago I was at a concert and when people started jumping, it became obvious that someone near me had a pretty serious bout of gas. It was brutal! Everytime the jumping started…the air was replaced by….scorched, hot off the stuff, stench. It wasn’t so much a smell, as an entity invading your nose. I eventually had to go to the back.

Maybe it was an alternative energy source. It was that strong. I hear Madonna screaming for jumping, and in my mind I am screaming, “NO!”

I just want to know how much carbon was burned getting the 6 mimes to the stadium.

Uhmmm… Guys? I hate to rain on your parade here, But I am a guitar player. and she was playing, and she was cording properly, Yes, I did watch the video, that song, ray of light, is like a 2 chord song, I think she’s doing a G and C in what is known as Bar chords (it involves the use of one’s index finger, instead of using a capo) She did have 2 backup guys helping her, it is kind hard to jump around on a stage and play too, especally if you’re new! Anyhow, no, I don’t like her music, but I thought I would at least let ya’ll know, she was playing and seemed to be in timing, at least at the beginning.

That’s a nice Gibson Les Paul too, I got one just like it, Albeit, a lot older and not as nice looking. :D

Jimi Hendrix just rolled over in his grave.

What was up with those dancing ghey guys in white ties?

Oh, I forgot Madonna lives in Europe. This is entertainment.

I bet they were thinking, “this is where my career takes off!”

Black Adam on July 11, 2007 at 5:33 AM

Good Lord, Madonna, Michael Moore, Carl Levin, and John Conyers why are all these freaks coming form Michigan? What happened to my state?

deadbackpacker on July 10, 2007 at 1:54 PM

You forgot Eminem and your adopted governor Granholm. They’re all trying to counteract the positive effects of Motown, Grand Funk and the Nuge.

Wingo on July 11, 2007 at 8:54 AM

She wasn’t faking it………..she just played the same two notes over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
