Hot Air’s and Jihad Watch’s Robert Spencer appeared on Cavuto today to talk about the jihadi doctors who tried to bomb London and Glasgow. Spencer shattered several myths about jihadis and what makes them tick.

Spencer is awesome. I wish more people would read his books, because if people knew what he knows, it would make a big difference in the public’s naive perception of Islam.

Looks like people are slowly getting it. At least nobody died this time.

Thanks, that’s excellent. I hope Neil has him on all the time now.
(And btw just in case you care Byran appeared has an ‘e’ in it:))

Good to see Robert speakin truth to power on the mainstream media

Silly British.
Don’t they know the “War on Terror” is just a bumper sticker slogan invented by Dick Cheney so he can spy on Americans?

Ahhh… but… but… it can’t be true…
It can’t be true that those who flew the planes on 9/11 were middle class… it would mess up the GREATER truth that its all the West’s fault, not that of poor downtroden Asian Youths….
Romeo13 on July 5, 2007 at 6:09 PM
Spencer: “… they have been recruiting doctors as well as lawyers and scientists …”
I wonder if they have had any luck with guys at not-for-profit PR associations? Not that I think they are, mind you. I’m just asking questions. LMAO
It’s good to see Spencer getting national air time.

Robert is just plain right about everything.
Nuff said.

Well done, Robert!! Say it like it is!!

It is a miracle of our Age that phampleteers have once again sprung up to speak the truth. There is a core of ‘common sense’ patriots that the left can’t silence. Imagine this war in 1980. All we would have is CBS and the NYT guiding us through it. Thank you Mr. Spencer, HA, and the blogrollers. Thank you indeed.

So how would you be able to tell the difference between a terrorist lawyer and a non-terrorist lawyer?
P. James Moriarty on July 5, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Non Terrorist Lawyers work for the ACLU… oh… wait.. that aint right…
Romeo13 on July 5, 2007 at 6:36 PM
One wears the blindfold, the other offers you one.

The other day, I was reading a liberal blog that attracts mainly younger readers.
His post was all about the silly ‘terrorists’ and how Americans get so upset at every little plot when most of them are incompetent idiots that can’t pull the plot off. The three example he gave were the guy that wanted to bring down the Brooklyn bridge with a blow torch, the shoe bomber, and the recent car bombers in the UK.
What makes me angry about this is that the only reason the shoe bomber’s plot didn’t work is because it happened to rain that day and his shoe fuse was wet and wouldn’t ignite.
That’s hardly a “silly jihadist playing at terror” kind of moment. Rather, it’s a stroke of luck for the passengers.
As for the recent unsuccessful plot, just because they didn’t get the proper mixture of air/fuel (which, from what I’ve read, is extremely complicated) doesn’t mean they are worth laughing at. It just means that they’ll be more careful to get it correct next time.
Someone here (and, I’m sure elsewhere) has pointed out time and again, if the 9/11 terrorists had been busted before getting on the planes, everyone would be laughing about the ’strip club jihadis’ that were bad tippers that had a silly idea to hijack planes and fly them into important buildings – as if that could ever work!
I don’t know if people are naturally ignorant, or if it’s a defense mechanism because their fragile psyches can’t deal with the fact that there are people out there that want to kill us. Either way, I’m getting sick of the ignorance.

Spencer having more experience dealing with Islamist sympathizers, he would have put in a better showing than Cal Thomas did against Ibish. (But then it’s frustrating when your guy — who patiently waited to respond — keeps getting interrupted by the other guy.)
Spencer should teach a class for conservative pundits on how to respond to Islamists. Just as Popular Mechanics (or John Gibson) should teach a class on how to respond to 9/11 truthers.

IMO, the problem is epidemic. It comes from our narcissistic society. It’s all about me, me, me. And since most are not impacted (inconvenienced) yet by the current war, they have no feeling to get involved or take up the fight. Not since WW2 has the general population been required to sacrifice anything for the war effort. Thus, the great message by Mr. Spencer here goes in one ear and our the other. 9-11 woke us up for a short time. But, most went back to sleep. It will take something much worse to wake up the masses. As it stands now, I wouldn’t call our country “United”.

Once again, it’s not poverty, it’s not Shiia or Sunni, it’s not anything that happy-ending junkie tool Thomas Friedman thinks, it’s not a passing phase, it’s not a Ron Paul “reaction to Western imperialism,” and it’s not stomach cramps.
It’s ISLAM!
And that all it is.
Anyone with a pair of eyes and a brain behind them can see that. Now if we can just get the liberal fruitcakes to shut the hell up and go back to their global warming communes in Vermont and stay the hell out of the way, maybe we can do something about it!

What is the oppression other than what Islam literately means?
I don’t think it mean submission in the voluntary sense.
I believe Islam is it’s own oppression.

Of course, we can’t make too much of the doctor thing. While we all know that jihadism is a product of ideology, the Left will simply say that these doctors, as bin laden, were acting on behalf of the poor. They can always come back to that meme no matter how many doctors and millionaires take up jihad. Hell, Saudi Arabia, the land of golden toilet seats, and private airliners, is the number one exporter of jihadism. But as long as one arab pizza delivery guy drives a dented Toyota, the Left will say that the machinations of terrorists are on behalf of the poor, the wealth of the terrorists themselves notwithstanding.
What I am waiting for is the obvious. Why should al qaeda target doctors and lawyers for recruitment when they can just as easily target airline pilots. They really are stupid.

The great Marxists themselves, the Russian revolutionaries, were middle-class. The middle-class Bolsheviks seized power and dressed themselves in overalls as bricklayers and house-painted to present themselves as the working class for propaganda purposes. I was taught this in secondary school (i.e. high school).
Most revolutionary movments come from the middle-class. The best explanation of why can be found in George Orwell’s 1984 in the book Winston Smith finds titled “The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism” by Emmanuel Goldstein. Read it if you get the time.

Kudos to a clear thinker in MSM and politico-muddled times.
When Karen Hughes is replaced by Robert Spencer, I’ll pop the Dom Perignon.
Till then its Fizzies like GWB.

I wanted to reach through my TV and hug Robert. Cavuto ended the segment brilliantly when he said that Spencer’s info flies in the face of everything we’ve been told.

I still can’t understand how anyone can be alive and this uninformed baout Islam the cult of death. Our public school systems suck pure and simple to let this threat go unanswered.

Mr. Spencer needs to be cloned.
Were this perpetual sense of indignation and oppression not so tragic it would be comical.

In the event anybody’s missed it, Iowahawk has been doing his typically delightful work skewering both the Dr.’s Jihad and the milquetoast response of the Brown government. It’s like a car bomb went off over there, but instead of nails, it was filled with satire! I’ve still got tears in my eyes.

Robert Spencer is so accurate in his perceptions it is amazing that more people don’t listen to him. I have a great deal of respect for Robert Spencer and wish he would recevie more exposure.

That was great. Scary because it’s too close to the truth.

Neil, it flies in the face of everything we’ve been taught? Leave it to the business guy to think that the promise of money or the acquisition of it will change these little terrorists minds. “Only illiterates would sign up for jihad right? Not educated folks.” Wake up! These are idealogue zealots who really believe we are the great satan and will not stop until we are converted or dead. Not even the promise of money will deter them, how un-american, huh?

I got the distinct impression that Cavuto was being sarcastic when he made that comment.

What a cruel thing to wish for. What do you want to do – kill the guy?
Only Muslims should be made US ambassadors to Islamic countries – if we had another Bush like president, Zalmay Khalilzad would end up as secretary of state.
infidelpride on July 6, 2007 at 1:28 AM
Daniel Pipes – ” … … standing shoeless, George W. Bush rededicated the center [the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C.] last week. His 1,600-word speech also praised medieval Islamic culture (”We come to express our appreciation for a faith that has enriched civilization for centuries”), but he knew a mosque from a church – and he had more on the agenda than flattery. Most arresting, surely, was his statement that “I have invested the heart of my presidency in helping Muslims fight terrorism, and claim their liberty, and find their own unique paths to prosperity and peace.”
“Adding to the event’s accommodationist tone, some of the president’s top female aides, including Frances Townsend and Karen Hughes, wore makeshift hijabs as they listened to him in the audience. In brief, it feels like “déjà vu all over again.” As Diana West puts it, “Nearly six years after September 11 – nearly six years after first visiting the Islamic Center and proclaiming ‘Islam is peace’ – Mr. Bush has learned nothing.”"
“Almost 30 years after Islamists first attacked Americans, and on the eve of three major attempted terrorist attacks in Great Britain, the president’s speech reveals how confused Washington remains.”

Why not read the same info for free?

By Diana West:
There Imam Bush goes again
“There Imam Bush goes again. “I am astonished by President Bush when he claims there is nothing in the Qu’ran that justifies jihad violence in the name of Islam,” jailed jihadi cleric Abu Qatada said under similar circumstances almost six years ago. “Is he some kind of Islamic scholar? Has he ever actually read the Qu’ran?”
No. He’s just leader of the Free World — a Free World that has become less free and more dhimmified on his severely myopic watch”.
MB4 on July 6, 2007 at 3:12 AM
My response was a bit different -this is exactly what we’ve been told if you listen to people who demonstrate a basic understanding of the facts. Too many people rely on the MSM filter to “tell/teach” them what’s what.

I spent some time in Saudi Arabia back in the mid-80s flying combat support missions to protect the American flagged Kuwait tankers. We operated out of Riyadh at the time and I’ll never forget the looks we would get when on our shopping excursions downtown from some of the more devout followers of the “Moon God.” I used to call it the fire of Islam and you could see it in there eyes, these guys wanted to kill you, but at the time we were considered mercenaries so the population tolerated us. All I could think of was one of these days we are going to have to fight these lunatics. I guess I was right, but at that time I was a lot more tolerant of them then they will ever be of us.
I also remember the Chaplin had to get his religious supplies from the folks in the embassy, you weren’t allowed to bring a Bible in the country, but you could leave it on the aircraft (No such thing as an atheist in a crippled airplane). If you were Jewish you had to lie on our in-processing paper work that you were Christian and were not allowed to declare you did not have a religion. It was nuts working for these jerks, but being an instrument of political power you salute smartly and follow orders. Besides everyone back home was happy because the oil kept flowing keeping the prices down.
The more I have learned of Islam being quickly awaken after the 9/11 attacks the more I have found myself using every bit of military and personal discipline to keep from encouraging these folks to move back home by force of arms. They are no longer welcome in my community or country.
