It’s a fact, Keli, baby. The English were centralized and authoritarian in their approach and were intolerant of non-Anglicans. The Scots were decentralized and democratic and took in anyone who accepted Scottish values. The English planted themselves on the East coast of America on the good land and refused to let the Scots worship their own Presbyterian religion there. So the Scots cut a deal with the English where they established their settlements on the frontier up in the mountains, like the Appalachians, where they would form a buffer from the Indians and live as they please.

The Scots organized themselves as military communities, just like back in Scotland when they fought the English, which worked well against the Indians. The Scots recognized no authority but their own. Scots became leaders by demonstrating courage in battle to their community. Their religious leaders were locally elected, not appointed centrally.

The English coastal elites, in what are now known as the Blue States, looked down upon the Scots who rejected their religious and political authority. That English authoritarian tradition is based on medieval nobility where wisdom comes down from high up. That’s been translated down into the Democratic top-down approach for doing everything, where there is an orthodoxy which must be obeyed, set by the elite.

This Scots-Irish ethos was displayed by the Confederates from the uplands who fought because they objected to anyone telling them how to run their lives. The Celtic warrior ethos carried by the Scots-Irish was contrary to the more urban Anglican sensibilities. Naturally, the Scots-Irish joined the military in greater numbers because they held it in high esteem, though it was hard for the Southerners to join the Union Army and wear blue after the Civil War. However, they didn’t mind joining the Marines and wearing green.

After the Spanish-American War, the stigma wore off some as far as far as the army was concerned and many southern Scots-Irish joined up. When WWII came along, the Army cadre had a critical mass of Scots-Irish. The masses of draftees in WWII found that democratic warrior ethos admirable, adopted it, and spread it back through middle America when they returned from the war. The Celtic values the Scots-Irish brought to America became the values of America. That’s why real Americans see this Scottish guy as a hero while the real un-Americans say the guy shouldn’t have gotten involved or called the authorities to stop it.

That is part of the reason why there is a blue-red split between the coasts and flyover country. It’s why half of America prefers to rely on themselves and why the other half prefers the government to run our lives. That’s why half the nation wants to fight it out with the jihadis and the other half demands appeasement.

How true, it doesn’t take balls to blow up innocent civilians, it only takes an insane, fanatical, and rabid adherence to a sick and twisted ideology! The fact these turds turn and run or hide behind women and children whenever our troops get close is proof they are nothing but COWARDS!!

Ya gotta love those Scots and that ancient Celtic warrior ethos. When the flaming jihadi falls in their lap, they’re not trying to figure out the root causes of their enemy’s motivation and how they can apologize for it. They take the fight to the enemy.

Well put Tantor, we need more of that mentality here in the US and in the overall WOT! I am so sick of the appeasement and apologist left it makes me want to hurl!! At least the fact the latest attacks in London and Scotland were conducted by middle-class to upper-middle class perps will hopefully squelch some of the insipid drivel from the left, but then again they’ll just say it’s because of Bushitlers policies!

I used to live/work in the UK, and the health care over there is scary.

Whenever my Brit co-workers scheduled dental check-ups, they had to take a week off b/c dentists in the UK are not known for their hygiene. The week off is recover from any infections they might have picked up at the dentist’s office.

Needless to say, I got my dental and medical check-ups on trips back to the States.

By the way, I encourage everyone to bombard RedEye with emails encouraging them to bring him on as a guest (preferably for an entire show). “RedEye at Fox News .com, send me something to read and I will try to read it…”
