Video: Stuck Mojo’s new single

I, er, prefer “Open Season” but maybe some of you will dig this. It’s sort of a nu-metal version of a Toby Keith song.

Well, actually, maybe that’s not such a good analogy.

Beats those John Mellon Cougarcamp Chevy adds.

Rapping always reminds me of Chicom loudspeaker’s in a Korean POW camp trying to brainwash…brainwash…brainwash…

Or Sesame Street’s unintended consequences.

But the sentiment is okay.

profitsbeard on July 3, 2007 at 11:11 AM

Nice idea, but as a heavy/death metal fan…could be much better.

ernesto on July 3, 2007 at 11:14 AM

Hey now…I’ve never had a gripe with people who were against the Iraq job. That’s fine. Just respect the folks who are fighting it and don’t cut their feet out from under them. Toby has been there for the troops and there is no doubting that.

Pilgrim on July 3, 2007 at 11:14 AM

If these guys get their mojo unstuck they could be huge.

And guess what? I hear Powermad’s at The Hurricane!

“Stab it and steer!”

saint kansas on July 3, 2007 at 11:17 AM

This makes me yearn for the glory days of groups like The Georgia Satellites and Molly Hatchet.

pilamaye on July 3, 2007 at 11:17 AM

It was pretty good. I think, like AP, I liked “Open Season” better, but this was good.

nailinmyeye on July 3, 2007 at 11:18 AM

Like the song well enough, video falls short of Open Season. But in fairness Open Season struck a chord that resonated; right time, right place.

Spirit of 1776 on July 3, 2007 at 11:30 AM

Old glory, Combat troops, unabashed Americanism, metal licks.
A bit disjointed in the editing, but whats not to love?

Would it be too vainglorious of me to suggest a Amon Amarth viddy?

seriously, though, whats up with the cheerleaders, and the British soldier?

cadetwithchips2 on July 3, 2007 at 11:31 AM

Yeah man! But that sure put a hurtin on my cheapo computer speakers, vibrated them right off my desk….

soulsirkus on July 3, 2007 at 11:34 AM

I don’t usually dig rap music, or any of its variations, but I really dug this tune and the message. They really hit the nail on the head when they say the USA isn’t perfect, but it sure as sh!t is better than anything else.

Rock on!

Abu Daboo Doo on July 3, 2007 at 11:37 AM

I LOVE STUCK MOJO!!!

And I’m not just some Johnny-come-lately, I saw Mojo three times before they broke up in 2000. When Pantera dropped the groove-metal ball in the late 90’s Mojo was there was there to pick it up. You guys should see the Stuck Mojo “Give War a Chance” t-shirt I have – I was wearing that shirt almost all day on September 12, 2001.

Enrique on July 3, 2007 at 11:37 AM

I like it.

CP on July 3, 2007 at 11:39 AM

Show me another band that puts our troops in their videos like that?

The music is mediocre, but the patriotism makes it outstanding.

unamused on July 3, 2007 at 11:49 AM

Think they’ll get “critical acclaim” like Green Day did with American Idiot?

revolutionismyname on July 3, 2007 at 11:51 AM

Big fan of metal (death, black, thrash, you name it!) but rap and metal just don’t mix. Sure, the lyrics strike a chord, but other then that i just can’t find myself hearing it more then a couple of times.

madne0 on July 3, 2007 at 11:52 AM

but rap and metal just don’t mix.

madne0 on July 3, 2007 at 11:52 AM

Linkin Park made it work. Rage against the machine had some good tunes despite the message. There are more.

sunny on July 3, 2007 at 11:59 AM

You want an outstanding patriotic metal band? Check out Iced Earth!

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Linkin Park is NOT metal!

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 12:07 PM

As far as metal goes, I’ll stick to good-old, reliable Pantera (now, the ONLY thing from Texas that I like!).

revolutionismyname on July 3, 2007 at 12:19 PM

I’ve been on a major Pantera kick lately! R.I.P. “Dimebag” Darrell Abbot.

Now THIS is a video that needs mention on here. It kills me that no conservative sites ever talk about this band.

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 12:27 PM

Atlanta native here just wanted to thank stuck mojo. I have been a fan for a long time even though Bones was kicked out I still love them.

Mofugger on July 3, 2007 at 12:29 PM

BTW, that was the acoustic version. I don’t think they ever made a video for the album version. Still, both versions of the song are outstanding.

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 12:32 PM

Little-known fact: Fred F. Thompson plays all of Pantera’s guitar, bass, and drum tracks in the studio.

saint kansas on July 3, 2007 at 12:37 PM

DethMetalCookieMonst[er]-

[Good handle.]

Thanks for the link.

I’ll have to check out the IE electric version.

(I was wondering why a SRV-ish lead guitar didn’t come in and kiss ass and take names.)

profitsbeard on July 3, 2007 at 12:52 PM

couldn’t they get hotter cheerleaders??

libertytexan on July 3, 2007 at 12:59 PM

YA!!! Now you’re talkin.

It’s on their album “The Glorious Burden” (the metal album liberal metal heads love to hate). Guitarist/founding member John Shaefer even owns a shop that specializes in war figurines called “The Spirit of ‘76″.

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 1:06 PM

sunny: Like DethMetalCookieMonster said, Linkin Park aren’t metal. Ditto with Rage Against the Machine.
The only (borderline) metal song with raped vocals that was ever done was Anthrax’s “Bring the Noise”. And even that sucked.

DethMetalCookieMonster: Iced Earth are a good band. Outstanding? Yes…their second and third albums deserve that classification. The others are merely good, average or mediocre. Unfortunately the last one (Glorious Burden) falls in the later category.

madne0 on July 3, 2007 at 1:24 PM

I love it!

Glynn on July 3, 2007 at 1:41 PM

I love the fact that these guys DO what they do. I love OPEN SEASON, and it’s hard to get better. But kudos to Stuck Mojo on their determined patriotism.

I’d much rather have these guys behind me in a fracas than John Cougar, wouldn’t y’all??

tickleddragon on July 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM

As a guy stuck in the 80’s hard rock and hairband era, I really enjoyed that.

jediwebdude on July 3, 2007 at 2:18 PM

Cool.

Jaibones on July 3, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Why isn’t Open Season on iTunes? Lib bias against pro-US themes?

saint kansas on July 3, 2007 at 12:37 PM

Oh, come on… everyone already knew that!

ScottMcC on July 3, 2007 at 5:46 PM

hey DethMetalCookieMonst[er],

What is the the correct recipe for a blacktoothed grin? I can never get a straight answer….

PBoilermaker on July 3, 2007 at 3:50 PM

I dunno nuthin’ about iTunes (I’m the only person in the world that doesn’t have an iPod) but Stuck Mojo has their entire album available for FREE download (mp3’s) at stuckmojomedia.com

Ask Dave….;)

DethMetalCookieMonst on July 3, 2007 at 11:45 PM

I hate rap and my metal days are behind me but, I salute the message!

sMack on July 4, 2007 at 12:10 AM

As a refugee of the Legs Diamond club days, I was always a classic rock devotee, and basically have no love for thrash of any kind, even less for rap. But like sMack, I recognize the message gladly.

If Legs Diamond rings no bells, think REO Speedwagon, Foghat, .38 Special, BOC, Deep Purple, that sort of thing.
