You can’t not laugh, the exasperation is so palpable. Note what he says at the very beginning about deporting people “to Jamaica, in particular.” One of the London bombers was from Jamaica as are the parents of one of the bombings’ most notorious and repulsive defenders — since arrested himself for inciting terrorism. HA readers know him well.

I felt so uncomfortable as he tried to answer questions that instinct for survival provide the answers to, and totally empathized when he said “there is something completely ridiculous about this.”
We know, Mr. Blair. Don’t give up the fight for a minute. You are spot on, and I only wish our president had the guts to tell the truth like you do.

Blair’s intelligence and common sense will sorely be missed. Brown is playing with semantics in dealing with the threat and doesn’t realize that it was pure “luck” that the car bombs did not go off and kill hundreds of Brits. Fa Next time fate may swing in the other direction. It is a shame so many people have to die before understanding of the evil we are facing begins to take hold. Fanaticism on this level cannot be reasoned with.

Thus is revealed the conundrum of 21st Century political correctness.
Do less than plausible to appease those who claim the government assails our civil libertys, and after the attack the governemnt is assailed for not doing enough.
Do everything plausible to successfully prevent terrorist attacks, and the terrorism threat is a myth used solely by the government to assail our civil libertys.
Obviously, since we suffered 9/11 in our country, the Brits have it a bit tougher since they haven’t had such a massive terrorist attack.
And what does the American Congress do in the middle of the fight on terrorism…?

Blair wasn’t quite so outspoken until he left office. While he was in office he tended to dance around the issue with PC platitudes and “religion of peace” comments. The people who currently hold public office need to drop the PC crap and tell it like it is.
speed911 on July 3, 2007 at 3:47 PM
As so many have noted for so long, we are now really separated into just two kinds of people: those who understand this threat, and those who don’t.
It seems to me that this is the organizing premise of this web site, HotAir. AllahPundit stands comfortably at odds with many of the conservative member-commenters on a variety of issues, as we do from each other, including theology, abortion, homosexuality and the related social issues.
But we are virtually unified in our understanding of the threat of Islam, much like LGF, The Corner, Instapundit, Ace of Spades, protein wisdom, etc. And Blair, despite being a clear liberal on virtually every social issue you can name, gets it. He understands this threat so clearly that he finds those who don’t understand it insane.

I can’t wait for the Griswold family camel post. There is going to be a camel post, isn’t there?

Hell, after 8 years of GWB I could get behind Putin/Blair.

We need a better word than absurd don’t we, to describe how libs bend over for Muslim mass-murderers.
Mojave Mark on July 3, 2007 at 3:59 PM
Blair’s a good man. He’s right. We can hardly be any more tolerant than we are already and if that’s not good enough, then - and I hope eyes will open to this - that can only mean the basic problem lies within the Muslim communities themselves. Muslims are being oppressed/agitated by other Muslims, not by the western societies.

I hope Blair keeps talking.

Why can’t politicians cannot talk like this ALL THE TIME?!!!!

Guest workers/refugees/sleeper cells/terrorists.
Multiculturalism is better known as cultural suicide.
Blair should keep talking honestly, and maybe it’ll shame Bush awake before he leaves the Oval Office.

But it was Bliar & his ugly money grabbing wife that have given in to PC & the human rights brigade. Nulabour have, in 10 years, ruined a once great nation.
nick on July 3, 2007 at 4:42 PM
We can’t call them “Muslims.” It’s not allowed … it’s not sensitive. How about … instead of “Muslims,” … we call them The People Who Allegedly Believe That Jesus Christ Was A Prophet, Yet Deny His Proclamation That He Was And Is The Messiah And The Way, So We Must Kill All Christians For Believing What We’re Supposed To Believe, But Reject Outright For Our Own False Prophet Who, Himself, Allegedly Visited Bethlehem, Because, Again, Jesus Was A Prophet, And Bethlehem Was His Birthplace, But I’m Going To Reject Him Because I Want You To Worship Me Instead.
Is that “sensitive” enough?

Like Anslow is somtimes “completeley surrounded by no beer”, Mr. Blair is often completely surrounded by no common sense and people who are bonkers, including his wife.
Love you Mr. Blair.

I’m going to miss him so much.
So many leftist idiots in his country.
He’s one of the few who got it.
A brave, marvelous leader.
We will never see his like again.
Hawkins1701 on July 3, 2007 at 5:30 PM
What an excellent conversation. Now, if only we could get the left leaners to listen to this and force them to stay on task and not start an Ad-Hominem attack to obsfuscate what the real issues are, we could possibly make some progress. Personally, I don’t really see what’s so hard to understand either. I think mostly, the Left is just too scared of conflict to fight for what is right, but to always try to take the easy (in the short term that is) way out.

Again, if we’re going to change the Constitution for Arnold, let’s change it for Blair–FAST!!!
RedCrow on July 3, 2007 at 5:58 PM
Yeah, what was Romney doing in Sweden, anyway?
And Blair is amazing, you’re right that his exasperation here is hilarious.
AdrianG on July 3, 2007 at 6:06 PM
Looks like Blair was the kind of leader Britain needs at this time, but he couldn’t do much in office because of the rampant PC at Downing St. and in the House of Commons. Now he can afford to be blunt because he’s out of office. Which is a crying shame. Well, at least the laws passed after 7/7 made it easier for the authorities to catch the doctor jihadis. That’s the only good thing that happened under Blair.

I agree with an earlier poster who said that Blair should have done this while in office. Its too late now.

I’m not so sure. He can speak his mind more freely now.

No,They already shut him up by appoimting him to some damned Middle East Ministry…
“The Ministry of Silly Walks” I believe…..
Blitz on July 3, 2007 at 10:42 PM
I love Monty Python humor. Seriously, Blair is a unique voice among so many who simply dole out droll platitudes like coins in a laundromat. I think Blair will also prove unique in his new role. The man is a sharp-witted, accomplished diplomat and I’m not buying in to the argument that his hands are too dirty from the Iraq war to have credibility in the Middle East.
thedecider on July 3, 2007 at 10:55 PM
Blair wasn’t perfect, but after reading this morning about Gordon Brown’s ban on the use of the term “Muslim” in connection to terror plots, I already miss him as British Prime Minister. The UK has been one of our staunchest allies in the war against radical Islam, and if this is what we can expect from Mr. Brown over the next several years, I don’t feel very encouraged.
sheik_rattle_n_roll on July 3, 2007 at 11:00 PM
Decider?
I also am a Blair fan,But I sincerely doubt he can have any effect in his new position. I never meant OR implied that his “hands were dirty”. All I meant was that I think the new PM sent him to a place that he couldn’t do any harm to the British Caliphate.
It’s like Bush appointing Bolton to the UN…WE(the people) liked it,the politicos HATED it….
Blitz on July 3, 2007 at 11:02 PM
Sorry, Blitz, I never read your earlier comment, therefore mine was not tied to yours. However, I think Blair will prove to be influential. In the end, I don’t believe the middle east crisis will really be resolved in our lifetime as long as terrorist groups control Palestine and insist on the destruction of Israel - a hopeless cause. What I believe Blair will succeed in is helping the Palestinians develop a more controlled, democratic form of government that can one day lead to peace between Palestine and Israel. I know it seems a lofty goal for Blair, but I believe it’s possible, and I believe he has the skills to pull it off.
thedecider on July 3, 2007 at 11:41 PM
Okay, some already stole my thunder on wanting to recommend Blair for a VP slot (I was thinking more “Giuliani/Blair” as the go-to anti-terrorism tag team), but can we not at least begin a movement to invite him to speak at the ‘08 GOP Convention? Sometimes it takes hearing someone deliver the same message dressed up in a distinguished accent to cut through the muddle.
(And speaking of dressed up, I liked that natty pink tie you were sporting, Mr. PM. Now we know you’re fearless.)

Decider? that to me is a pipe dream hidden behind rose colored glasses. I simply don’t see ANY diplomatic solution to the Middle East problem that doesn’t end in a VERY large BOOM coming from either Iran or a new Coup government from the Pakis.
GOD….I hope you’re right,but I sincerely doubt it.
