Open thread: Michelle guest hosts the Factor Update: Video added

posted at 8:46 pm on July 2, 2007 by Bryan

We’re either 45 minutes late or 15 minutes early posting this. Either way, talk amongst yourselves. I’ll have highlights eventually.

Update: Michelle’s Talking Points Memo echoed themes that we sounded in Vent today, so I’ll link to that and keep more of the rest of the show in this highlight reel. After the TPM, she segued into a discussion of the UK/Glasgow plot. Steve Emerson makes some interesting points about doctors and terrorism, namely that it’s not all that unusual to find doctors among the ranks of terrorists. It’s not unusual to find professionals of other stripes among and running terrorists groups as well. Yassir Arafat was an engineer, as a matter of fact.

The Impact Segment featured a roundtable with Michelle, Laura Schwartz and Kirsten Powers. If I hadn’t kept much of this segment in, I’d have been lynched. Takeaway: In this segment, Kirsten gave credit where it was due on shamnesty. Why didn’t Fred? Hmmmm?

We end with Michelle checkmating an open borders immigration attorney. He goes from “stop all deportations” to coming around, thanks to Michelle’s strategic questions, to the very reasonable position that we ought to at least deport criminal aliens. A fine performance by the boss.

She’ll guest host tomorrow night, Thursday night and Friday night as well.

Michelle guest-hosting kind of makes a joke of “The Vent”, considering that Fox News is basically exactly that, except with a bigger audience.

Fragility on July 2, 2007 at 8:50 PM

Michelle, next to that smarmy, skanky Laura Schwartz, comes off as professional, prepared, and up to the task, and makes Laura Schwartz look like she is standing next to a lampost in fishnet stockings, waiting for “Mr Right”.

“… immigration is dead, and you killed it Michelle…” Kirsten Powers.

KP is right on the money tonight. I think Michelle gets as much of the credit as anyone else in winning the victory in the Shamnesty battle. Thank God we won!

I miss those episodes of “The Vent”, KP always had something interesting to say. Maybe someday…

And we can all be thankful for that, sayeth Michelle.

Awesome show, but someone needs to fire the make-up people. Both Michelle and KP looked like they had on way too much make-up.

That Brit gossip columnist, wow, he had a ton of spray-on tan. He looked like a Tootsie Roll.

Am I going color blind or something? lol

Making a point or just complaining?

Just having fun at your expense. It honestly seems ridiculous for Michelle to go through with the trouble of “The Vent” when basically there’s a news channel with people like O’Reilly, Hannity, Kasich, Gigot, Gutfeld, Hume, Gibson, Cavuto and North to do it for her. That was best illustrated when she brought in Powers and several conservative friends for one of the early “Vents” where they sat around talking about abortion. It was basically spot-on for a Fox News “fair” debate.

Powers: abortion is murder
Malkin: abortion is murder
Ham: abortion is murder

Honestly, why bother?

Richard Herman: The immigration system is broken! Immigration Laws should not be enforced until the entire immigration system is completely re-done and perfected.

Well, Richard, I think that the bank robbery laws are not perfect. So maybe we should just not enforce them until they are fixed.

Dork.

Michelle, Kirsten, and Laura together in one place. Wow!

Why did I feel like the late George Gobel, who accurately joked on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, sitting along with Dean Martin and Bob Hope:

“Did you ever feel like the whole world is a tuxedo, and you’re a pair of brown shoes?”

I’m sure Fox would love to host a fair debate, unfortunately, Dem’s are afraid to come on. Oh, sorry, not afraid, just pandering to the nutroots.

Don’t confuse fear with disgust. Admittedly there’s nothing to be afraid of since the debate is between Democrats, not between Dems and Fox News. A journalistic fraud like Brit Hume doesn’t deserve to host that kind of a debate.

CrimsonFisted on July 2, 2007 at 9:12 PM

Don’t confuse fear with disgust.

Sure the Dems are disgusted with Fox, because they absolutely cannot stand the fact that Fox News won’t kow-tow their broken world view, their feelings-based reporting (facts? who needs facts when you’re a Dem?), and stunted little groupthink. They also fear Fox News for the same reasons – they will only debate in venues where they can control the spin. Or, at least, think they can control the spin even though Fox News still continues to cover them.

Mindcrime on July 2, 2007 at 9:14 PM

By the way, more people watched the Democratic debate on CNN than the Republican debate on Fox News, by about 250,000.

Fragility on July 2, 2007 at 9:09 PM

There is a very simple explanation for this:

Republicans watched BOTH debates; Dems only watched their own because they’re too scared to watch intelligent debates with substantive issues.

IrishEi on July 2, 2007 at 9:17 PM

Admittedly there’s nothing to be afraid of since the debate is between Democrats, not between Dems and Fox News.

Yeah, it’s not fear, but it’s not disgust either. Unless you are going to tell me the Clintons are disgusted by Murdoch’s checks. Just simple early process pandering. Just makes it hard to take people seriously when they won’t field questions from Hume. Russert himself said it well (paraphrasing), it you won’t stand up to [that] how are you going to stand up to the real problems in the world today?

Fantastic when you FINALLY got that guy to say that enforcing SOME deportation orders was ‘obvious’ after his thesis was ‘moratorium on deportation’. Check mate there. I wonder if he thinks we should even guard the border – or maybe he thinks we should go to Mexico and load up busses to bring them up here for citizenship.

Glad you brought up the ‘though we can’t deport all of them, can we deport ‘any’ of them?’ argument. But there is one more step to the argument.

‘Why do you think making them ALL citizens is feasible, but deporting them ALL is not? Making them all citizens is more ludicrous than deporting them all.’

I liked the speeding analogy of an earlier poster.

ThackerAgency on July 2, 2007 at 9:34 PM

Well, perhaps Herman has a point besides the one on his head.

After all, illegal aliens are simply breaking laws that Americans and legal aliens won’t break.

As always, great job filling in for OReilly, Michelle.

The False Dervish on July 2, 2007 at 9:35 PM

There is a very simple explanation for this:

That’s not an explanation, that’s an excuse for less people being interested in the Republican Party than the Democratic Party. It falls into line very well with the latest poll showing that 55% of Americans want a Dem to win the next election, only 28% favoring the Rep.

warpmine on July 2, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Fragility your name is perfect since your arguments are so fragile as well.

Don’t confuse fear with disgust.

Democrats didn’t want FOX hosting a debate because they were scared. Plain and simple. Don’t ask us questions we might have to come up with on the spot. Look at the Chris Wallace interview with Bill Clinton. Toughest questions he ever had.

A journalistic fraud like Brit Hume doesn’t deserve to host that kind of a debate.

Ha! As opposed to someone as astute as Dan Rather and his faked documents? Who is a good journalist in your opinion?

By the way, more people watched the Democratic debate on CNN than the Republican debate on Fox News, by about 250,000.

That statistic has about as much relevance as Hillary Clinton in a church.

wryteacher on July 2, 2007 at 9:45 PM

That’s not an explanation, that’s an excuse…
Fragility on July 2, 2007 at 9:35 PM

Wrong! What I wrote perfectly explained why the numbers were higher for the Dem social.

55% of Americans want a Dem to win the next election

Yeah, especially since the Dem congress has gotten SO much done since taking over the Legislative branch. Let’s just wait and see who the Dem candidate is:

Shrillary: 52% of Americans say they will never vote for her (the rest actually wish they could vote for her amoral husband.)

Obamarama: Empty suit, empty head.

Edwards: Tort man, haircut, bumper-sticker, girly-man.

Goracle: Unstable manic-depressive.

A lot can happen in 16 months…just sayin’.

Fragility on July 2, 2007 at 9:00 PM

I bet Kool-Aid makes a great chaser to that crackpipe entree.

Fragility, you fail to draw any distinctions between journalism and commentary. You also fail to note the broad variety of perspectives expressed on the right on every political hot-button issue.

A journalistic fraud like Brit Hume doesn’t deserve to host that kind of a debate.

By the way, more people watched the Democratic debate on CNN than the Republican debate on Fox News, by about 250,000.

Fragility on July 2, 2007 at 9:09 PM

It continues. Hume is not my favorite journalist, but you can’t find anyone more focused on hard news on any of the big three or cable. Furthermore, as former Chief White House Correspondent for ABC, it does not follow that he would lose all journalistic integrity just to fit your stereotype.

Finally, the Democratic debates on CNN were the lone blip on their ratings radar.

Well, I do kinda like to keep my insulting skills sharp.

Honestly, I usually pay attention if Michelle, MKH or Dennis Miller is on. Bill’s been spending way too much time on tabloid crap. Fox in general is getting too tabloidish.

Yeah, I kinda miss honora for that. At least she could debate more than one subject unlike the newbie. But, as with all trolls, it’s just a matter of time before they post something stupid or Allah finally gets tired of their pointless snark and they’re gone for good. But, hey, we always have the next open registration to look forward to.

I was genrally neutral on honora’s banning till Bryan said that the name Hitler was put in the profile. Didn’t feel so bad after learning that.
