Open thread: Michelle guest hosts the Factor Update: Video added

We’re either 45 minutes late or 15 minutes early posting this. Either way, talk amongst yourselves. I’ll have highlights eventually.

Update: Michelle’s Talking Points Memo echoed themes that we sounded in Vent today, so I’ll link to that and keep more of the rest of the show in this highlight reel. After the TPM, she segued into a discussion of the UK/Glasgow plot. Steve Emerson makes some interesting points about doctors and terrorism, namely that it’s not all that unusual to find doctors among the ranks of terrorists. It’s not unusual to find professionals of other stripes among and running terrorists groups as well. Yassir Arafat was an engineer, as a matter of fact.

The Impact Segment featured a roundtable with Michelle, Laura Schwartz and Kirsten Powers. If I hadn’t kept much of this segment in, I’d have been lynched. Takeaway: In this segment, Kirsten gave credit where it was due on shamnesty. Why didn’t Fred? Hmmmm?

We end with Michelle checkmating an open borders immigration attorney. He goes from “stop all deportations” to coming around, thanks to Michelle’s strategic questions, to the very reasonable position that we ought to at least deport criminal aliens. A fine performance by the boss.

She’ll guest host tomorrow night, Thursday night and Friday night as well.

I wasn’t neutral at all. In fact I hated it until I learned that and a couple other things about her. Given her engagement in the dialogue here I think she made some mistakes she would probably take back if she could. But seriously, we haven’t had a good liberal debater since her.

thedecider on July 3, 2007 at 1:20 AM

Fox in general is getting too tabloidish.

Bad Candy on July 3, 2007 at 1:09 AM

Yeah, way too much Paris Hilton and concert for Diana and Geraldo (gag). It’s like the war on terror is on the back burner with them.

infidel4life on July 3, 2007 at 1:24 AM

Yeah I know what you mean, and so does Ace.

Bad Candy on July 3, 2007 at 1:27 AM

LOL, God it’s way worse than I thought.

infidel4life on July 3, 2007 at 1:29 AM

Michelle, you’re finding your center with these segments. Niiice. Don’t let the lettuce heads get away with red herrings and obfuscation. Yah bay-bee.

Mojave Mark on July 3, 2007 at 1:30 AM

Speaking of things that tick me off, there’s this. I thought he was going to announce on July 5th. Now we learn it’s the 15th?!?! What gives? I’m getting sick of this man.

thedecider on July 3, 2007 at 1:33 AM

And he’s dead on too, i4l. That’s basically been Hannity&Colmes for the past six days, and anywhere where Mort and Geraldo have been too.

Bad Candy on July 3, 2007 at 1:34 AM

Oh, and the announcement is going to be “low key”. Of course. Apparently a prelude to low expectations as well. I really liked him at first, but now he’s just an annoyance.

thedecider on July 3, 2007 at 1:35 AM

infidel4life-

The Malkin Mandate sounds a little ponderous.

(And brings to mind a “man” and a “date“, which is the last combo I think of when I look at her.)

Plus Michelle can dance rings around these topics, so how about THE MALKIN FORUM.

(Bill can stick to radio, since it gets him more involved and inspired.)

profitsbeard on July 3, 2007 at 1:44 AM

MM did a great job tonight as usual! I only watch The Factor when she is on! It’s the only time I watch FOX anymore! Keep up the great work. Loved the opening about Chertoff!

sabbott on July 3, 2007 at 2:09 AM

Fire Chertoff.

Hire Malkin.

Problem solved.

Halley on July 3, 2007 at 2:10 AM

THE MALKIN FORUM.

profitsbeard on July 3, 2007 at 1:44 AM

I like that. A lot. I was straining my brain to come up with something. Mandate was the best I could do at the time.

infidel4life on July 3, 2007 at 2:46 AM

Richard Herman got pwneded so hard he goodwind’ the interview.

liquidflorian on July 3, 2007 at 2:47 AM

I like Malkin Forum but here are a few more ideas:
Fulcrum with Michelle Malkin (or Malkin’s Fulcrum)
Malkin’s Balance of Reason (or Balance of Truth)
Illumination with Michelle Malkin

FloatingRock on July 3, 2007 at 3:10 AM

I didn’t watch it, but I would just like to say that Michelle’s hair in the screencap looks amazing. I’mma jealous.

emmaline1138 on July 3, 2007 at 3:38 AM

I have some suggested topics for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

1) Barry Bonds and the countdown to break Hank Aaron’s all-time HR record.

2) Dale Earnhardt’s move to Hendrick Motorsports.

3) Phenom 3B Ian Stewart of the Colorado Rockies AAA affiliate (Colorado Springs Skysox) has been invited to play in the MLB Futures game this Sunday, LIVE on ESPN2.

4) Wimbledon, can Andy Roddick finally beat Roger Federer?

5) Sports Trivia… stump Michelle Malkin segment. ;)

And the BIG IDEA! I’m available to do a 10 mile training run LIVE on the air during the show on Friday. All during the Factor you could can cut in live for a 10 to 15 second quick update to see how I’m doing. I can pick a trail here in Boulder County (Colorado) with spectacular views, tough hill climbs and even one that will include the real possibility of being attacked by a mountain lion and/or black bear, all that LIVE on the O’Malkin Factor!

You know my email address. Just send a note if you want to set this up.

:)

olympian2008 on July 3, 2007 at 4:12 AM

Michelle’s defense of ICE agents was very important. Both right and left throw out the term “jackboot” whenever unpopular policies are being enforced. They only succeed in tarring law enforcement officers who are doing hard, dangerous work instead of the bureaucrats or politicians actually responsible for putting them in harm’s way.

And that’s a great screencap.

see-dubya on July 3, 2007 at 5:54 AM

Slightly OT… anyone know Michelle’s ratings vs. Olbs for Monday night?

freebird on July 3, 2007 at 8:42 AM

Can’t believe they let her call it ‘the shamnesty bill’ on tv :).

Kevin M on July 3, 2007 at 9:08 AM

“Wait…stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.”

Heh. Whatever I was doing at the time, I stopped, too. Lady is priceless.

Jaibones on July 3, 2007 at 9:13 AM

Honestly, I usually pay attention if Michelle, MKH or Dennis Miller is on. Bill’s been spending way too much time on tabloid crap. Fox in general is getting too tabloidish.

Bad Candy on July 3, 2007 at 1:09 AM

Roger that! FNC desperately needs to give Michelle a permanent forum to restore some of its seriousness as a news and analysis outlet. Two examples:

1. I’ve grown so disgusted with the FNC morning news that I’ve stopped watching it. Megyn Kelly’s legs notwithstanding, their ghoulish obsession with the “Missing Woman du jour” to the exclusion of hard news has finally become too much to take.

2. I stopped watching Greta Van Susteren’s show a long, long time ago for the same reason (and she doesn’t even have the legs): beating a tabloid story to death, then beating it some more.

If only Michelle would step into either of those slots, preferably after having Greta get punted over to CNN or something…

But I don’t think she’s interested in a full-time job at FOX, and it’s hard to blame her. She gets the best of both worlds as it is, a lot of face-time there without the hassles of having to own the show, plus remaining free to work on her blogs, columns and to have some time for her family.

Michelle, normally I’m dead-set against human cloning, but…

Spurius Ligustinus on July 3, 2007 at 9:19 AM

So my question is… when does Michelle get her own show?

rattrap47 on July 3, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Good Stuff. TV is becoming interesting for me again.

So, how long before vivacious Michelle displaces perky Katie?

Lawrence on July 3, 2007 at 9:47 AM

Not shown: the portion of the program in which Michelle, Kirsten, and Laura got into a catfight over me…

radjah shelduck on July 3, 2007 at 9:58 AM

Why is it that these dumb a#@sses can’t see that we don’t have to deport these people. If we dry up the jobs and perks by enforcing the law, many will be forced to leave on their own.

I want tough, vigorous enforcement on employers that hire them. I want schools to refuse to enroll them. I want hospitals to report them. I want police to arrest them on document fraud. I want landlords to verify their status before renting. I don’t want to hassle with idiot lawyers like this guy.

saiga on July 3, 2007 at 9:59 AM

Ya know, God love Fred! Thompson, but when do we officially transfer the ‘Frank Facts’ to Michelle Malkin?

Schweggie on July 3, 2007 at 10:18 AM

Fire Chertoff.

Hire Malkin.

Problem solved.

Halley on July 3, 2007 at 2:10 AM

Sorry Halley – she will be too busy taking over the O’Reilly show.

First she was filling in maybe one night a week – then maybe two nights a week and now a full week. The handwriting is on the wall (as they say). Soon O’Reilly will be a thing of the past and our great girl Michelle will have the ‘factor’ time slot. It’s just a matter of time!

OBX Pete on July 3, 2007 at 10:34 AM

Great show Michelle…loved the slap down on that fool Hermie and he’s a lawyer(not surprising, least liked of the professions)?
Took me by surprise giving him his last word, paraphrasing “now i’ll give my last word” lmao
Ty ty ty

Fire Chertoff.

Hire Malkin.

Problem solved.

Halley on July 3, 2007 at 2:10 AM

Good point. Chertoff is turning out to be a real doofus.

I submit, however, that the first person we need to fire is Condi Rice. Hire Michelle to get our mess of international un-relations sorted out and most of our national security problems will go away. Then we can efficiently focus resources on our border problems.

Lawrence on July 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Count:
Number of times “Enforce Existing Laws” mentioned during Michelle Factor week.

DAY 1 = ONE {sadly, just one last night(Monday)}
unless I was wrong , I only heard the one.

TUESDAY , we’re hoping for three or four!

Jaibones on July 3, 2007 at 9:13 AM

She is learning fast. Michelle is a person of manners and she used to let these filibusters continue, but she has learned to stop that in it’s tracts. One more ATTA GAL for Michelle.

Michelle is great and asks tuff questions. I am sure more the people she has on from the liberal view must wish O’Reilly was there and not Michelle. LOL

Yes sir.

What I also hate about the amnesty talking point is they say “you cant round ‘em all up” yet they actually want us to believe that 20 million will show up for an ID?
PLEASE. I still stand by the notion that maybe, MAYBE 65% would show up (out of the shadows) to get an ID and START paying taxes. 35% will not. They’re on the lamb, thats what they know, and they wont want to pay taxes as it will cut into their remittances. We don’t know how many illegals are here so we will NEVER know how many no-showed. That Sucks.
So, If 65% of 20 million do show up, that still leaves 7 MILLION Illegal and undocumented aliens PLUS the 600,000 criminal FTA’s already WANTED by the courts running amok.
7 MILLION, thats like all of Colorado AND Utah AND Wyoming combined Populations.

Enforce Existing Laws….NOW.

I love hearing her say that and “nutroots” on TV.

ReubenJCogburn on July 3, 2007 at 1:26 PM

…did the Boss have a makeover? She looks even more stunning than usual!

MadisonConservative on July 3, 2007 at 2:45 PM

What a mess. We got Hillary and Obama on the dem side, and
Mitt, Rudy, and Fred on the GOP side. Dick Morris thinks Fred will fade, and he probably will. (He reminds me of a Boris Yeltsen from Tenn). If Newt gets in, he has high negatives and will probably fade as well.

I just don’t see any screaming fireballs anywhere on the radar screen. It is early though, but the ranks look rather thin to me. Dick Morris likes Huckaby, but he grins too much for me. Mitt is a good man, but a bunch of people think Mormons are creepy. Mormons don’t bother me because they remind me of Donny and Marie. Can’t get much cleaner than that.

It’s like watching a game of ‘Who Can Lose The Fastest’.

Every time the GOP does something stupid, the Dems trump it. It’s like a slow unstoppable train wreck in motion, and I know it, and yet I just can’t look away

see-dubya on July 3, 2007 at 5:54 AM

We need some schooling from British Bobbies. When they do “jackboot” stuff they make it look cool and sophisticated, and everybody cheers. When our peace officers have to enforce the rules we label them jackbooted thugs, and it’s just not fair to our police.

Lawrence on July 3, 2007 at 3:19 PM

Now they want to talk about an independent. I remember john Anderson and Ross Periot. All they did was split the vote. It could be worse. Imagine the 20 million illegals voting. We might get a Cezar Chaves or Geraldo Rivera.
