I am glad President Bush did NOT rule out a full pardon — this will keep the left in diapers for months and months and if he finally does issue a full pardon, we can only hope their empty heads will just burst.

First, I want to make some general comments about pardons and commutations of sentences. Article II of the Constitution gives the president broad and unreviewable power to grant “Reprieves and Pardons” for all offenses against the United States. The Supreme Court has ruled that the pardon power is granted “[t]o the [president] . . ., and it is granted without limit” (United States v. Klein). Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes declared that “[a] pardon . . . is . . . the determination of the ultimate authority that the public welfare will be better served by [the pardon] . . .” (Biddle v. In December, 1997, Henry Cisneros, President Clinton’s Sec of HUD was indicted on 18 counts of conspiracy, giving false statements and obstruction of Justice. Medlar, (Cisneros’ mistress) used some of the Cisneros hush money to purchase a house and entered into a bank fraud scheme with her sister and brother-in-law to conceal the source of the money. In January, 1998, Medlar pleaded guilty to 28 charges of bank fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and obstruction of justice.

In September, 1999, Cisneros negotiated a plea agreement, under which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of lying to the FBI, and was fined $10,000. He did not receive jail-time or probation. He was pardoned by President Bill Clinton in January 2001. The independent counsel investigation continued after the pardon focusing on alleged obstruction of justice. In May 2005, Senator Dorgan (D-ND) proposed ending funding for the investigation; negotiators refused to include the provision in a bill funding military operations in Afghanistan. The funding at that point for the investigation totaled $21 million.

According to a New York Daily News report on October 3, 2005, “lawyers are fighting to suppress a potentially embarrassing final report from the probe that found Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros lied to the FBI about paying $250,000 in hush money to his ex-mistress. … Lawyers at the Washington firm Williams and Connolly who work for Cisneros and both Clintons have argued to judges overseeing the case that allegations of illegal activity, for which no charges were filed, should be snipped before the report is made public.”

On January 19, 2006, the New York Times reported that the independent counsel is finally closing his investigation with a report accusing the Clinton administration of thwarting the inquiry into Cisneros. [3]

Nonfactor, we can debate just how seriously obstruction of justice should be taken under existing penal statutes. But there should be no debate that once a policy has been set, obstruction of justice should be taken equally seriously whether the surname of the perpetrator is “Libby” or “Clinton.” And that, Senator Schumer, is the equal justice under the law our founders advocated.

For those who are either too young or in early Alzheimer’s, let me recapitulate. Marc Rich was a crook. A tax evading, lying TRAITOR who was doing oil deals with the mullahs of Iran, enriching himself and our avowed enemy, Iran, in the process. He was indicted by a grand jury (Rudy G. was the US Attorney for New York at the time), but before arraignment, he fled the country for Switzerland after renouncing his citizenship. That was in 1983. He spent years on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list as well, but for some miraculous reason, was never arrested and extradited to the USA.

After his rich, socialite (and very well endowed) wife Denise lavished huge amounts of money as donations to the Democratic Party, President Clinton made pardoning Rich one of his very last acts in office in January 2001.

I can’t find a SINGLE word of criticism against Clinton for this pardon by Harry Reid, Rosie, or her Royal Thighness Hillary. Not one. In fact, DEMOCRATS are still pretty unanimous that pardoning Rich was an act of great humanity by Clinton.

So let’s see where we are….

Libby says he couldn’t remember what he actually said and his memory was mistaken, but got convicted on the word of inveterate liar (and former Democratic Party apparatchik) Tim Russert anyway.

Sandy Berger WILLFULLY STOLE AND DESTROYED national security secrets by stuffing them down his pants and in his socks. He did so to cover up something for the Clintons.

Marc Rich stole millions, evaded millions in taxes, AND did oil deals to enrich both himself and our enemies in Teheran.

Libby got YEARS in prison as a sentence.

Berger got a fine, some time picking up garbage along the side of the road, and he lost his law license.

Rich lived the high life in his mansions in Zug, Lucerne, St. Moritz, Marbella, consoled by his extensive collection of art by Chagall, Picasso, and Miro. Oh, and he paid a fine.

Perhaps leftwing troll Nonfactor would care to address the issue of HYPOCRISY and TREASON evidenced by Democrats and leftists over Rich and Berger.

Or perhaps leftwing troll Nonfactor (who is indeed NOT a factor when it comes to intelligent discourse) will wave his hands, cry out “Red Herring!” as he usually does and RUN AWAY… like the troll he is.

I have no use for the people (especially trolls like Nonfactor) criticising Bush for commuting Libby’s sentence when they have been silent on Marc Rich (tax evader and trader to the enemy) and Sandy Berger, one of the men RESPONSIBLE for letting Osama bin Laden live after killing American embassy employees, and who went on to kill 17 USN sailors and 3000 Americans on 9/11/01.

So to Nonfactor and his ilk — come back and talk to us when you are prepared to CONDEMN Clinton for his pardon of Rich and Berger for his perfidy.
