He earned respect for his war sacrifice. He diminished that respect by trying to erase the MIA-POW controversy while leading the caravan to open Vietnam to favored trade partner

This one’s priceless: McCain should have thought of this one – even if he doesn’t get their votes (assuming that in the GOP primaries, they won’t be voting illegally), he could at least get their cash.

Mi amigo, you are so wise. With permission, I’d like to request striking the last part. He’s not earning the right to stand for the most powerful seat but he should always be respected for his service to this country, both in the military and as a representative. Also, he helped to defeat one named John Kerry.

All that doesn’t diminish the blunders of late, but such are we human beings, imperfect. He’s still a good and flawed man. For his service I salute him, and always will.

Yes you can’t and shouldn’t take that away from McCain. He served his country way above and beyond. I think he was sincere in his attempt at bipartisanship but the Dems are so far left that any compromise is not acceptable to the base.

He’s the only one in the race with balls enough to fly combat missions over enemy territory.

Duncan Hunter was jumping out of planes over enemy territory as an Airborne Ranger. No knock on McCain’s service, but it’s worthy of notice.

I just couldn’t let this comment pass without further observation:

I would suggest that McCain’s downfall is part of a much larger downfall of those who did good things for this nation but were corrupted by all the power, influence, and easy money. By most accounts, Jack Murtha was a decent supporter of the troops at one point in his life- before ABSCAM and geostrategic delusions of a chubby ex-Marine (intentional use of the term ex) who has been caught threatening other Congressmen if they don’t support the worthless pork he had earmarked for his district. John Glenn hero astronaut was one of the five Senators who got caught in the S&L scandal. And, of course, Vietnam’s first fighter ace and long-time friend to the military was Randy “Duke” Cunningham.

In short, we can honor John McCain’s noble service to the nation in the past but that doesn’t excuse his current views and actions. He isn’t the only war hero turned corrupted politician. Such an attitude demeans those serving in public office who served honorably in combat and still do in some other capacity.

Thank you for your service, I’m sorry you suffered in a POW
camp for so many years, but you’d never have gotten this
far without it… and it’s all used up RINO boy.
