I thought the same thing. He delivered his rapid-fire report as if he was in an AAR. Used words like egress, assist the police, to assess, subdue, restrain…

Whatever – as long as it’s said with a Scots accent, it’s adorable.

heh I’ll be flying into Glasgow this September 11th. (Rugby World Cup is in Edinburgh this year – Scots v New Zealand, oy) Looking forward to it.

2) I thought I was pretty good at deciphering the brogue, given how many del amitri concerts I attended in the 90s (including, alas, a Denver show the night Di died, the only time I heard lead singer/raconteur Justin Currie less than chatty between songs), but even some of this flew by me.

3) Is it me, or did the baggage handler look a wee bit like Ryan Seacrest and/or Ty Pennington sans hair gel?

4) To be fair, how easy would it have been for the Scots to decipher Brooklynese if this had happened at JFK or LGA airports? Fuggedaboudit…knowwhumsane?

Clearly the man is a boxing fan, and was yelling “Ali!” in tribute to boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The “baggage handler” deliberately failed to mention the man’s use of the rope-a-dope, which would confirm this story.

One of my faves, glad you liked it. I’ve been watching it for something like two years every once in a while, and I only now finally just figured out what the neighbor says at the very beginning–”It’s a real drying day.” Man. I wonder if they are teaching that brogue as a real language over there, like Scottish Ebonics.

There’s a backlash a-brewin’. The time for killing flies with sledgehammers is approaching because no one in power took the initial threat seriously enough.

Witness: What I seen first, was I was out for a
cigarette… a smoke break; heard the commotions,
passengers running. So I’ve come around the corner,
looked to my left and seen a vehicle, a Jeep, crashed into
the front of the terminal building, on flames. I seen a
man egress that vehicle from the passenger side. As he
came round the back, the policeman was running
towards him to assess, and the man then went aforward
and then started to attack the policeman.

So myself and other members of the public went forward
to assist the policeman, and one of those members of the
public was injured in the fracas. The police came along.
The police were there within seconds, within minutes.

Then they restrained both the people. And the one who
was in flames from head to toe, covered in flames, who
then gets up off the ground and then goes forward to
attack the police. The police then subdue him, as they
have then subdued the other man.

And the rest of the time, the building…the vehicle is
entirely enguled in flames, and then the building itself is
(unintelligible).

Reporter: So the men were trying to keep the police
officers away from the vehicle, is that your take on it?

Witness: I don’t know if they were trying to keep the
police away, or if they were just out to attack the police
because the police were running (unintelligible). The
way it looked was, as soon as he got out of the vehicle,
the first thing he looked for was that policeman. And you
know he was just flinging punches left right and center
on them, and sure he was shouting “Allah, Allah.” Every
time he threw a punch he was shouting “Allah.”

Listening to our scots eye witness suggests another possibility. These poor asians were lost. They had a car loaded with gas in a country that is swimming in North Sea Oil. This is like carrying coals to Newcastle.

The poor lost asians stopped by the airport and politely asked the baggage handler how to get out of Scotland. He no doubt pointed at the terminal and said sommat like ” Yeh goo thray thase dooors en bouy a taket layk inny oothur dimmed grooby aheesian beestrds en poot eet oop yerss”

Misunderstanding the thick Lowlander accent they thanked him politely and shouting al-la al-la they followed his advice.

Anyone want to try translating this from whatever language he’s speaking into English? The only part I got was, “I seen a man e-gress that vehicle.” Oh, and the part about “Allah,” of course.
