How about a headline that reads "Kennedy Amnesty Bill Drives Through Bridge Railing and Drowns Slow Agonizing Death" or "Harry Reid Amnesty Deal Not as Profitable as Land Holdings"

Please note that if conservatives make a big deal about Obama's middle name being "Hussein," this proves that conservatives are prejudiced. If liberals make a big deal about a Southerner being named for Confederates ... well, that also provides that conservatives are prejudiced.

Whatever happens, in other words, the moral lesson is the same.

Liberalism is non-falsifiable.

Speed, Ace just added the cherry-popping line himself.

Welcome to the AOSHQ Lifestyle. If Ace is saying something serious, he'll usually issue an alert, like: "WARNING: The following sentence can be taken at face value." Otherwise, everything is presumed to be full of snark, jeering and anti-Scandi slurs.

<strong>TIP:</strong> It helps to understand AOSHQ if you'll first drink lots of cheap vodka.

Thanks for those words. I'm from the South and I've been tired of the way the NE looks down on us and presumes we're racists if we're white.

My grandparents were unfortunately part of the Old South, and my parents were a transitional generation. My generation is the New South.

Fragility on June 30, 2007 at 12:10 AM

As the sole person here to defend anything that you have said I now have to say that you have gone over the line. Where your previous arguments have been factually based now you are just spewing hate. There are no perfect people and politicians are after all only human, that said Jeff Sessions is a fine human being totally undeserving of your vicious vitriol.

I am afraid after this display of shameless partisan mud slinging even I will be hard pressed to to give any serious consideration to anything that you post in the future. Thanks for destroying my belief that any liberal could engage in constructive dialog.

From what I've seen of Sessions during this debate, he would have made a fine Supreme Court Justice. Unflappable, calm, prepared, and thoroughly familiar with the details of the bill. He never resorted to insults or incendiary rhetoric, and patiently challenged Reid on procedural issues in the cowardly absence of McConnell.

The AP couldn't attack him on his performance, which was flawless and (gasp!) statesmanlike, both on and off the Senate floor, so they had to snark at his southern roots.

I think what really sticks in the MSM's craw about Sessions is that he's one of the few Senators that actually reads the damn legislation, then makes his case based on the law, and not on the words of the opinion-makers for the weak-minded at the Washington Post and New York Times.

<blockquote>Did you know that the National Rifle Association defended the 2nd Amendment Rights of African-Americans against the efforts of Democrats who were trying to strip Blacks of the right to self-protection against groups such as the Klux Klux Klan?

naliaka on June 30, 2007 at 12:24 AM</blockquote>Indeed they did.

I recall that a certain Condoleezza Rice--a lady who grew up in Alabama--said that her father took the Second Amendment quite seriously. Said that his ownership of firearms kept his family alive back in the fifties.

As for my own (black) family, we've all been registered firearm owners for quite some time.

About the Old South in relation to black Americans: the Old South has had its trial by fire (sometimes, literally) in relation to American citizens of African descent. That part of our country actually experienced *two* civil wars and, as a result, came out better than other regions wrt to racism. It was forced to confront its ugly racism head-on and, therefore, get over it.

The rest of our country--especially Californians and North-Easterners-feel a bit smug toward white southerners because of the latter's past, but the truth is that the Old South has become *less* racist than the two other mentioned areas simply *because* it was forced to confront its problems--unlike the other regions.

Anecdotally speaking, when I was in the USAF, I got called a n****r b***h while in uniform when I was stationed in Northern California and experienced other forms of overt racism while there. Conversely, I got nothing but free meals and free drinks in Texas and other southern states when it was discovered that I was a GI.

The north-eastern/western elitists need to stop looking down on the South for its past and need to concentrate on looking at its own present.

<blockquote>Wanna preview? (for the ten thousandth time I have seen this.) Why not open a message form in your email function and type whatever comment you want to make in there - preview - preview - preview - rewrite - preview - spell check - preview - rewrite - preview —- highlight it all and hit copy. Go to the comments form and - paste.

Then find the Submit Comment button and hit that…..

News2Use on June 29, 2007 at 11:49 PM</blockquote>Well, thanks for the suggestion. As a matter of fact, I do indeed compose my longer missives for my own blog--which I've rented for a number of years--in an offline program; usually Word.

I simply thought that I'd add my request for a preview function--which is a part of my own blog service and a part of many other blog services--to the countless other requests for the same. It would be a nice feature to have for this wonderful place which we love. I'd especially like to make sure that the html in a give comment is correct. Spelling and grammar are secondary concerns, but they <em>are</em> very valid concerns. (No disrespect to you great folks at Hot Air; MM, AP, Bryan, Ian. You don't *have* to implement the feature.)<blockquote>Dang, Baldilocks, seems you just can’t do anything these days without getting corrected.

"Jeff Sessions, the Republican senator from Alabama who is named after a pair of famous Confederates, was very proud."

Rather ironic, someone jumping on Sessions, as he is one of the main heroes in <b>stopping</b> the Serf Institutionalization Act of 2007 (aka, slavery light).

<blockquote>It’s hard to put any belief in anything the AP reports. Hell, they can’t even spell check.

Anyway, I would have paid in pesos to see the Senators who voted against this bill to have thrown heads of lettuce at the villians who produced it. Not only great comedy relief, but a news story for the AP, regardless of the bias ;)

BTW, Sessions seems to be an honest and sincere man. Someone from another post said Sessions for POTUS. Not a bad idea!

And the crickets are chirping as midnight rolls in here in CST. Our favorite new Trifle has either

1. gone to cock-a-doodle-doo on one of the lefty hate sites, or

2. gone to bed on the orders of its mom.

Cheers!

<blockquote>But don’t you dare question whether or not some conservatives are racist!

Fragility on June 30, 2007 at 12:10 AM</blockquote>
Did you know that the National Rifle Association defended the 2nd Amendment Rights of African-Americans against the efforts of Democrats who were trying to strip Blacks of the right to self-protection against groups such as the Klux Klux Klan?

Well, since you chose my comment to use as the springboard for your worn out "fascist, commie, McCarthy," screech, how about you show me when I said communist or fascist in my post? How about if you show me where I said there are no racist republicans? How about you show me what a brilliant, stunningly mature person you are that you would call me "kid." It's ok, we'll wait.........

<blockquote>Boy, you sure do pick ‘em, Allah.

How come you haven't called for Senator Robert Byrd to resign from the Senate for his history of a dispicable and active membership in the Klu Klux KLan?
Doesn't bother you that a once card-carrying race supremicist is all comfy in the Democrat Party? And they don't have him in the back closet, like some dottery old uncle, but up front: the White Face of the Democrat Party in the Senate.
Until you haul Byrd out of there, you have no moral authority to complain about Republicans.
