He looks stricken. I trust you feel as bad as I do. FYI, what you can’t hear him saying at the very beginning of the clip because the dopey anchor is talking over him is, “Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people, and Congress’ failure to act on it is a disappointment.” Uh huh.
Elsewhere, Pelosi blames Republicans for the failure of this spectacularly craptastic bill. You’re welcome.

He should be grateful. We helped saved whatever legacy he’s going to have.

To pull a phrase from Ace of Spades: “I haven’t felt this bad since I got my last BJ.”

Actually I think he has it wrong. I think that this administration has to wake up to what the people want!!!!

What a weaselette and liar Pelosi is. Ain’t going to stick. The media didn’t focus on the center and lefties who oppose this, but they are there in droves.

I hope he was crying………

Bush’s phone lines obviously weren’t clogged with constituent phone calls, because if they were he’d know exactly where the American people are coming from. It’s sad that he’s so disconnected.
Mindcrime on June 28, 2007 at 4:09 PM
How about the Executive Branch come together on hard issues, like say, enforcing the law?
Spirit of 1776 on June 28, 2007 at 4:10 PM
W, I’d settle for congress coming together on an easy issue, which is ENFORCING THE &*$#ING LAWS ON THE BOOKS!!!
BTW, is our “stopping amnesty without Allah getting an iPhone is a hollow victory” campaign moving he boss any?

The boss, ’scuse me.

tommy chong is on cavuto right now talking about immigration………”there is no immigration problem. only if you make it a problem”
pmoshields on June 28, 2007 at 4:16 PM
So what’s he stricken about? The fact that he didn’t get the bill he wanted, or the fact that he realized he just got snookered by Reid, Pelosi and company? Notice he didn’t say anything about the American people this time around. No, he was talking about Congress. They’re giving it to him, so he’s giving it back to them. You’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy, and the sooner you wise up to who the winged monkeys work for (if I may extend the metaphor), the better off you’ll be.
smellthecoffee on June 28, 2007 at 4:16 PM
“The American people understand the status quo is unacceptable when it comes to our immigration laws.”
Mr. President, if by status quo, you mean your consistent refusal to enforce our current laws, then yes, that is unacceptable. But enforcing our current laws would be a hell of a lot better than this sellout of a bill!
greggish on June 28, 2007 at 4:17 PM

Entelechy on June 28, 2007 at 4:21 PM
How does he know the current laws we have don’t work? They have never been enforced. If they were enforced, then we will all know if they work or not.
As far as I am concerned, his legacy is worse than Carters. Something about those Bushes. NO new taxes, reward law breakers. Too bad.
If he wants a decent legacy, he needs to step up and enforce the laws we already have on immigration. Don’t hold your breath.

I cannot even bring myself to listen to him as he did not listen to his own party. I have lost all respect for him and the tools in his cabinet and senate who think the American people fools and ignorant. The whole process was to keep the people ignorant of the facts and play on emotions to get this thing passed. I hope they all cry in their beer…

I think he meant “Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the Undocumented American people, and Congress’ failure to act on it is a disappointment.” This whole shamnesty lost my support of President Bush (and a lot of Republican Congress) as well.

The war on Terror didn’t begin in 2001 it began well before that…You all jumped on a president because he wasn’t popular while you hid with your tails between you legs when you didn’t put the importance on the issue as you should. Look at yourselves while you pat yourselves on the back. You all are really more to blame because you supposed to care about these issues. You weaken our country with the way you went about this…you weaken what our country stands for. The bill wasn’t the best and shouldn’t have passed, but you allowed the ‘93 bombings to occur without doing anything, you allowed Al queada to declare war in 96 and you did nothing. All these years later you call yourselves heroes…I think not.
Why do you think Reagan chose amnesty?

I’d like to clarify this – most of you already know – here writes one of the staunchest supporters of capitalism and free enterprise.
However, the shamnesty bill would have continued the ugly circle of yes, some near-slave labor, extremely cheap and illegal labor, discrimination against skilled American workers, discrimination against elderly American workers, and simply discrimination against American workers. Period.

This was a failure.

Lame. Duck.
And Pelosi’s constituents are stupid enough to swallow her BS press release hook line and sinker. Republicans better be on their toes in the media. If they let the MSM brand them as anti-Hispanic that will be a shame. Sessions needs to be on Fox Regulary siting the entire countires disgust with the bill as well asn Nancy’s need for 70 Republicans to vote for amnesty to give her politcla cover.
Theworldisnotenough on June 28, 2007 at 4:35 PM
my god, why it is so hard for this man to understand that we want to secure the border first. Before you can heal a man, you have to stitch up the wound. Before we can deal with the illegals already here we have to stitch up the border.

GWB could recover his stride if he came on TV tonight and said we are going to get out the 86′ bill, dust it off, find out what it would take to make it enforceable and do it beginning tomorrow.
Well, I can dream can’t I?
BacaDog on June 28, 2007 at 4:40 PM
Did you mean to say lunacy?
natesnake on June 28, 2007 at 4:41 PM
George W. Bush is no longer whom I voted for, and he hasn’t been for quite some time. The day of his departure comes none too soon. For me, his legacy is and always will be one of complete ineptitude and assinine decision making. He could have been the man we needed to lead us through hell and high water in response to 9/11, Katrina, and Illegal Immigration. He has failed miserably at everything he has attempted since 9/11. He is, an utter failure when we really needed someone to lead us.
In my estimation, after he cleans his desk out, he’ll hold the title of Second Worse President in US history. Jimmy Carter, of course, being the absolute worst.
The entire GOP is a shameful mess anymore these days. The majority of those bloated stogie sucking ba$tards self destructed. Having already walked away from the Republican party and re-registered as an independant, as well as contacting the RNC and demanding they not ever contact me again via phone or mail unless I reinitiate contact (and they haven’t for a few weeks now which is actually a nice change from their usual begging and pleading), I feel I have done all I can do as one person to slap them upside the head. That is, until the polls are open again.
Now, how do we keep any one of the front running Commie Socialist Reprobate Democrats from taking his place?!

so, now that you have your fence i suppose you’ll all….
oh, wait. you don’t have a fence. or a congressional majority. or any prospect of introducing any plan you’ll find any more acceptable than the one which just died.
well, at least you just confirmed the anti-gop stereotype of the hemispheric hayseed hollerin’ “git offa mah lawn”, and cut latino support for the gop from 46% to 21% overnight despite the number of times you’ve professed that this fixation is not, by some complex web of rationalizations, racist.

Two options: The party moves to the majority, or the majority moves to the party. The WSJ’s bell is consistent with their views, not majority views.
Spirit of 1776 on June 28, 2007 at 4:47 PM
Revisionist history and all that aside, there were quite a few “D”s that voted it down.
How can you spin a GOP President introducting the bill, and then have a bi-partisan Turkey Shoot, as a GOP debacle. It was a $hitty bill. There was plenty there for everyone to hate.

smokin1 on June 28, 2007 at 4:48 PM
The fixation is not, as you say, racist. Why is is a racist act to simply want our immigration law enforced? Why is it a racist act to use our right to petition our grievences before our Congress?
Why would you assume that there are no immigrants who are here legally, with voting rights, against the bill? Where did you get your facts?
Anyway, I don’t take kindly to being called a racist.
BacaDog on June 28, 2007 at 4:49 PM
Oh, I get it. We should sh!t all over the ideas of rule of law, of citizenship, of national sovereignty, and of national security because if we don’t, some people might call us racists. I guess we should also favor affirmative action laws since opposing those is also characterized as racist.
You go stand over there with tomas now, ok?

Best as I can tell, Bush hasn’t been President for 20 years. Also, control of Congress has changed a couple of times during that period as well.
You’re right though. Since the 86′ bill was passed, nothing serious has been done. That turd lays squarely on the doorstep of Congress as they were assigned oversight of the bill. GOP or Dem. Plenty of blame to go around on this one.
BacaDog on June 28, 2007 at 4:55 PM
No, Mr. President. You and Congress need to prove to us the American people that you are serious about border security. Do that first, and then we’ll talk.

The notion that the hispanic community is, in fact, itself racist in its singleminded devotion to their ethnic group before the needs of the nation apparently eludes you, leading to the conclusion that it must be us hayseeds what needs thumpin on the head. Nice deductive reasoning, that.

text of an email i sent to the rnc about bush’s upcoming birthday:
Sorry,
President Bush has called me a bigot, and ignored the Republican base in regard to the Immigration Reform fiasco, which was only defeated in the Senate because some courageous true Republicans listened to their constituency. I will NOT be wishing him a Happy Birthday this year, as he failed to enforce existing laws, punish sanctuary cities, make employers accountable, clear the ICE backlog, empower the Border Patrol, and build the border fence. He has demonstrated that he clearly doesn’t want to hear from me and millions of his former supporters, so he won’t.
aqvik on June 28, 2007 at 4:57 PM
I must echo to some extent some previously posted sentiments.
As someone who has stuck by and defended President Bush through thick and thin, I too have in recent weeks lost confidence in the man and his now impotent administration.
He looked like a deer in the headlights today; like someone who doesn’t have a clue. Perhaps 7 straight years of pounding by the MSM has taken its toll…?
I feel like Annette Benning in The American President for cryin’ out loud!
Mr President, enforce the existing laws, build the fence, secure the borders, go after employers who hire illegals, and for pete’s sake… show some leadership and PARDON SKOOTER LIBBY!

Oh yes, that ’sober analysis’ that says we are all a bunch of racist bigots who don’t want to do what’s right for America because we want secure borders, believe in the rule of law, want fairness for legal immigrants, believe citizenship means something, believe in American sovereignty, and believe that bills as big as this one should be crafted and debated out in the open as long as necessary instead of using parlimentary chicanery to ram it down our throats.
Who’s (delusionally) patting themselves on the back again? Oh yes, that would be you.
