[...] Dirk brought up a must-be-known point about Voinovich, originally covered at Hot Air (which should be read in full), that he posted at his now-blogrolled blog on Thursday: Forty members voted during the alphabetical roll. Note that fully six of them switched — and only five switches total were needed to kill the bill. The other fencesitters must have noticed, sensed the momentum, and recalibrated their own votes accordingly. [...]

[...] Ah, well, his spokesman confirmed it. That makes all the difference. Funny that he didn’t think to make this bold yet opaque gesture of dissent during the cloture on Tuesday, when he voted yes. Nor did he think to make it during the cloture vote that killed the first iteration of the bill on June 7th; in fact, he didn’t even show up for that one. Most curious of all, rather than switch his vote immediately after casting it, he waited ten minutes until the bill’s fate was decided to cast his by-then entirely meaningless “no.” And he did it all during a presidential campaign in which Republican voters are unusually nervous about the candidates’ commitment to conservative values.
[...] This is from Michelle Malkin I just happened to go to Hot Air first thing on my daily morning blog scan and I find this about Senator Brownback, who will forever be know as, thanks to Hot Air, Senator Sam Switchback. Being that I can’t stand this dude, I am so glad they did this. At 7:49a it made my day! Bryan and I cooked up another Kaus-inspired shamnesty Hot Air ad just for Senator Switchback. Thanks to Allahpundit for clipping the switchback moments that will live in infamy. Enjoy: [...]

<blockquote>The Republican “extremists” voted with the Dem’s, and when Kyl said 40 Senators were thwarting the will of the majority, he was off by six.</blockquote>

Not to quibble, but it would be off by 13. The no votes were 53.

[...] For example, in the Senate vote today on the Immigration bill, the bill failed because the Senators realized that everyone was watching. This not only cause them to vote for what most people wanted, but many Senators to change their vote when they realized that the bill was going to fail. Meanwhile, while no one was looking, the House voted a pay raise, even the Republicans who claim to be against such things. Those Republicans calculated that this was safe because no one was watching, at least partly because of the Immigration conflict in the Senate. [...]

Not sure who linked the summary on <a href="http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8Q1UNF00&show_article=1" rel="nofollow">Breitbart</a> earlier, but an image perfect opener like this one is rare and beautiful thing:

<i>"The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants....."</i>

What I love most though, is what the vote tally does to media CW:
Yeas 46 (28.6% Republican) to 53 (28.3% Democrats).

Parse that, pundits! No party line, "polarized" vote to work with here. The Republican "extremists" voted with the Dem's, and when Kyl said 40 Senators were thwarting the will of the majority, he was off by six. What's left in the toolbox but A Stunning Setback for the Prez or the ever popular Conservative Fright Night?

[...] This Hot Air article analyzes the Amnesty vote, showing the order in which the votes poured in, ultimately killing the bill. You’ll also find Sen. Sam Brownback caught on tape, changing his “yes” vote to a “no,” undoubtedly after realizing the bill would die. [...]

Interesting. Nebraska's Dem Senator (Nelson) voted Nay but our "Republican' Senator (Hagel) voted Yea. Not too surprising as Nelson is generallu about as conservative as they come for a Dem and Hagel has worked very hard to earn his "RINO" title on a few too many issues lately.
