I called Sen Brownback’s (aka Sen Wetback) office in Overland Park, KS yesterday because the Senate switchboard had crashed. I told them I wondered how a senator who could be suckered by the likes of Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy would function as president…where he might be confronted by deceitful opponents with guns!!

Brownback with this flip flop in yesterday’s cloture vote on immigration shows that he is not a man of character, but an opportunist. A typical politician that sticks his finger in the air to see which way the political winds are blowing when he doesn’t have his hand out for the special interests or trying to hide earmarks from public inspection.

Will he (Switchback) answer CNN’s request to provide his earmark requests? So far most of the House and Senate are refusing to do so.

Sadly and stupidly a staffer for a Republican Senator Crapo of Idaho gave the ludicrous response to CNN that to give the list of earmarks to CNN is against the law. It violates the Privacy law.

Now have you heard anything more stupid than that? Accountability is against the law. Really?

No wonder Congress has an 18 percent approval rating according to the Rasmussen poll. What a bunch of arrogant elites in Congress who think we, the People, are just stupid sheep.

I would have thought the Republicans would have learned something from the election of 2006, but apparently not.

Who am I? A life-long Conservative Republican in Florida who will not vote for Brownback after seeing his actions yesterday at the cloture vote.

I’m somewhat surprised I didn’t see this earlier in the thread. For me it was salt in the wound (’cause I kinda agree with most of Brownback’s positions) when I received an email from his campaign asking for money by touting how his “no” vote helped stop the amnesty bill. Wow!

Now that’s hypocrisy, my friends! Needless to say I immediately unsubscribed to his mailings. Hope he gets the hint.

Floor votes are given a time-span. Prior to the time closing Senators (and anyone else with floor privilege) can plead with, strongarm, blackmail, etc. others into changing their vote. This being a cloture motion, I don’t think all the bells and whistles would be involved, but in a final vote on a bill, there is time alloted for speeches and remarks to sway undecideds.

look up pragmatism, the conservatives in those blue states have no chance unless they get lucky and barely win like Santorum in 00.

politics has changed, they use to go and give one speech in the south and another up north and get away with it. But obviously the american voter doesn’t understand the pragmatic realities and team sport nature of politics and now that is hurting them.

The GOP has been screwing itself for 2008 for a long time. I think it’s more of a matter of when do they stop choosing to stop screwing themselves.

I concur. In 2004 the RNC had Rick Santorum go to the mat for RINO in chief Specter who faced a primary challenge from a true conservative, Pat Toomey. It helped Speceter get reelected so that he could represent the liberal wing of the party. In 2006, a lot of PA voters showed Santorum the door because he had undercut Pat Toomey. Great thinking.

In 2002, Bush supported RINO John Sununu over true conservative Bob Smith. Sununu has been stabbing Bush and all conservatives in the back since.

Bush has cut taxes and picked two outstanding Supreme Court Justices (one under duress), but his political sense is absolute garbage. He continually picks guys like Specter, Sununu, Arnie, etc. Meanwhile, he abandons Santorum, Smith, Swann, Steele, Blackwell, and so on. He refuses to fight for General Pace and squanders the remainder of his political capital on this amnesty bill instead of the War on Terror.

before the “Great Society” buyoff, the black vote was heavy Republican and had been since Lincoln “freed them” or so they think. now its 90-10 dem.

the Latino Vote favors Dems as well and according to Morris and exit polls they were pissed in 06 over this issue and swung hard to Dems. If GOP doesn’t get atleast 30% of Hispanic vote in 08 there is no way they can win.
