Where’s your response to demanding protections for children against the predatory Taliban?

naliaka on June 30, 2007 at 12:37 AM

I'll repeat myself: I explained this in the other thread and countless more on this site. Now how about you, still standing by the notion that marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol? Any proof to back up your baseless claims that isn't secondhand (my friends are dumb and they smoke marijuana)? Even the government can't find a link between marijuana use and mental capacity, amazing you've found one.

Never said I didn’t want to be an American
Nonfactor on June 30, 2007 at 12:25 AM

That wasn't the question, was it?
Where's your response to demanding protections for children against the predatory Taliban? What's the matter with you? Those are children they are strapping with explosives.
It'd be a kindness to say that you are oblivious to what's going on because your brained is fried from drug use, but you protest that your faculties are intact.
So on what humanitarian grounds are you going to ignore the plight of Third World children with nothing that you have to keep yourself fat, sassy, entertained and comfortable who are being picked up to be USED as bomb delivery systems by vicious Islamofascists?
Your brain is fine, but your soul is dead?

Perhaps you don’t care?

I explained this in the other thread and countless more on this site.

And why was a brain-fried has-been, third tier celebrity invited by the media to pontificate about immigration?

I was being honest when I said comedy. You invite a comedian onto your show when you want comedy. He'd been on MSNBC and the Colbert Report recently for the same reason.

And what is it about Americans that makes you not want to be part of “we” or “us?”

Never said I didn't want to be an American.

And I see you've continued to ignore the discussion on marijuana, as expected.

I will not take a drug-user’s opinion on how well his faculties have held up, either.

You can objectively judge someone's "faculties" when the calculator for them is Grade Point Average; you don't need to rely on the drug-user's opinion.

Uh huh.
Are you going to get off your keister and complain about the Taliban strapping on bomb belts to little kids for the express purpose of killing our troops and to kill Afghan government troops? Perhaps you don't care?
Or using your logic and borrowing your own words, you lost the argument and are doing all you can to ignore the points I brought up?
And why was a brain-fried has-been, third tier celebrity invited by the media to pontificate about immigration? He knew nothing about the subject, rambled all over the place and confirmed everyone's suspicions that he was a drugged out fool. Let's see, of all the people who could have talked intelligently about immigration, with all the connections of the "journalistic world," they picked HIM? He added nothing to the debate, no, take that back, he added stupidity. Maybe the media doesn't want to discuss immigration calmly and intelligently.
And what is it about Americans that makes you not want to be part of "we" or "us?"

It never once occurred to you that I might indeed know what you were talking about? (Hint: /sarc)

Because sarcasm comes across really well on the internet /sarcasm (I add that because sarcasm really doesn't come across well on the internet).

your arrogance in dissing Americans.

Wrong.

You are nasty and IGNORANT of the sacrifices that are being made

Wrong.

but you hate them.

You are pathetic. You lost the argument on marijuana so you do all you can to ignore the points I brought up in my previous post by bringing up a thread from days ago and focusing on your perception that I hate Americans and the troops. Pathetic.

Let me remind you that this all started because I said “legalize it” and you didn’t know what “it” was

I bait you and you go for it every time, because you believe that I am stupid. I ragged you on your comment about Americans and "we" - not for the grammar,(which was wrong anyway) but for your arrogance in dissing Americans. You ignored Islamofascists using innocent children to carry the bombs they don't want to carry themselves, you had no irate complaints to the Human Rights Commission, no demand of Amnesty International, Red Cross, REd Crescent, UNICEF, The Hague, to accuse the Taliban of war crimes ... NOTHING! except a snarly smear against our bave troops who have to fight these vicious people, KNOWING that if they are ever captured, they will be tortured and mutilated. No Geneva Convention rights for American soldiers, is that fair? No! But it's WAR!
Comedy??? No. You are nasty and IGNORANT of the sacrifices that are being made by men and women to allow you to sleep safe at night, walk the streets unmolested, speak without getting your tongue chopped out. With men and women volunteering, you do not have to sit out there in the Afghan hills, chilled and dust-covered. The least you could do is be appreciative, but you hate them. WHy?
I wouldn't take a drunkard's opinion on how capable he is, I will not take a drug-user's opinion on how well his faculties have held up, either. Seen them in action. Ain't pretty and ain't comedy.

So, to assume that the whole world lives as you do and has access to the same information as you alone, is indeed ethnocentric. You can’t believe that people don’t know who Lennon is, so that confirms a narrow comprehension of the world out there.

Let me remind you that this all started because I said "legalize it" and you didn't know what "it" was. I'm not assuming that the entire world knows who Peter Tosh or John Lennon are, I made a comment and when you didn't know what it was in reference to I said "people don't know who Peter Tosh is anymore?" You could've said "no, I don't know who Peter Tosh is" and that would've been that without you accusing me of being "ethnocentric" (you're also using the word incorrectly seeing as my question doesn't in any way deal with the presumption that one's race is superior to another's). My mistake was thinking you were capable of using Google if you didn't know the meaning of what I said (a link for you), next time I'll make sure to give you that link at the first sign of your ignorance.

No, it’s not. That’s a fact.

Well that's just hilarious. Off the top of my head alcohol consumption can kill you, marijuana conception cannot, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a direct cause of pregnant women drinking too much alcohol, THC does not cause any damage to the fetus, and now let me link you to the National Institute on Drug Abuses own website (an anti-marijuana use site): here. The only conclusive evidence there is that smoking marijuana causes lung problems (as do cigarettes). They mention animal studies that show a weakening in the immune system, though no evidence regarding humans. They also mention cancer, but by their own admission they aren't "sure whether regular marijuana use causes cancer." Alcohol on the other hand is far more dangerous, and the fact that you'd even claim it (in whatever quantity) to not be as dangerous as marijuana is laughable. Here is a nice site you could check out.

Yes, one can overdo it, but even water in overabundance is dangerous.

Which is nice, because heavy marijuana consumption, which will albeit make you happy, will not kill you. And guess what, marijuana has also been linked to medicinal uses (as have the antioxidants in some wines).

they were dumber at the the end of the semester than when they started, and the dumbness scarily didn’t improve over time; they were permanently dumber

And this proves what exactly? That your friends stopped doing well in school around the same time started smoking marijuana? If I were to tell you I know people who have done better in school during the same time they were smoking marijuana would you believe me, or has your one experience proven the link between marijuana usage and bad grades? There is a phrase used in statistics "correlation does not equal causation," it applies here as well.

The difference is, alcoholics recover their coherence and judgment when they dry out. For some reason, maybe some kind of brain damage, potheads don’t.

That sounds like a pretty definitive scientific statement that I'm sure you could back up with a link...

For some reason, maybe some kind of brain damage, potheads don’t. ack to Tommy Chong.

Tommy Chong has done a hell of a lot more than marijuana, to blame his perceived stupidity by you on his usage of marijuana (which may I remind you the NIDA can't even prove to cause long term memory lossage) is one hell of a stretch.

The big mystery is why the editors and producers wanted to fill the expensive TV programming time with his incoherent rambling rather than an actual authority on the subject at hand (immigration).

There is a phrase used in statistics “correlation does not equal causation,” it applies here as well.

The difference is, alcoholics recover their coherence and judgment when they dry out. For some reason, maybe some kind of brain damage, potheads don’t.

That sounds like a pretty definitive scientific statement that I’m sure you could back up with a link…

For some reason, maybe some kind of brain damage, potheads don’t. ack to Tommy Chong.

Tommy Chong has done a hell of a lot more than marijuana, to blame his perceived stupidity by you on his usage of marijuana (which may I remind you the NIDA can’t even prove to cause long term memory lossage) is one hell of a stretch.

The big mystery is why the editors and producers wanted to fill the expensive TV programming time with his incoherent rambling rather than an actual authority on the subject at hand (immigration).

So I guess if someone expected people to know who John Lennon is that’d be ethnocentric too.

I happen to know who he was and can't stand his airhead songs, but there are 6 billion people out there and astonishingly! most have never heard of the guy - count them in the billions - and the number is growing as the years pass. Lennon was nothing historically - a musician of the fading past 60ies Western, Rock genre (Western as in in Anglophone). So, to assume that the whole world lives as you do and has access to the same information as you alone, is indeed ethnocentric. You can't believe that people don't know who Lennon is, so that confirms a narrow comprehension of the world out there. A suggestion, just go out and find out what's out there. Nothing more tricky than that to be more informed.

You do realize that alcohol is a lot worse for you than marijuana, right?
Nonfactor on June 29, 2007 at 4:12 PM

No, it's not. That's a fact. People can drink one to two glasses of wine or beer every day for their long, long lives and never have a problem, in fact even the Apostle Paul counselled a little wine to soothe the digestion. The Bible decries drunkness, but not a glass or two of fine wine. Jesus himself produced an outstanding supply, his first recorded miracle. Therefore, alcohol in moderate quantities has been recognized for several thousand years as being helpful and enjoyable. Yes, one can overdo it, but even water in overabundance is dangerous.
In contrast, regarding pot, (not counting medical studies that are available), I base my opinion on personal observation: I had the informative privilege to closely observe a group of people smoke pot at least once, sometimes twice a day for a semester and can firmly attest that they were dumber at the the end of the semester than when they started, and the dumbness scarily didn't improve over time; they were permanently dumber. One fellow of this bunch had landed a job with a lobster fishing boat - weirdly, not long after, the boat sank. Someone forgot to close the seacock before they left port. Let's see, a boat with three experienced crew and the new hire, unbeknownst to them, a pothead. He and his fellow travelers started honest enough at the start of the semester, but by the end of it had became persona non grata at the local supermarkets for shoplifting.
Their decision-making went from so-so to stupid, petty criminal. Their sense of right and wrong became mushier - they took shortcuts and made pathetic dodges to cover try to cover the mistakes they were making. It was a large enough sampling of people to be able to say that the effects were the same for all of them.
Tellingly, they did not think anything was wrong. They thought they were fine and couldn't understand why they were having so many problems. Me, the aghast observer, moved out at the first opportunity - before the bunch managed to get us all either ignominiously evicted or burned out of the house.
Yes, you could claim similiar circumstances generated by alcoholics, and I would be in complete agreement, to a point. The difference is, alcoholics recover their coherence and judgment when they dry out. For some reason, maybe some kind of brain damage, potheads don't.

Chong is from Calgary, dude. Cheech is from LA. I guarantee you Cheech won't be getting 'guest-commentator' time on anybody's network, since he has a bit of common sense left.

Who knew that Ted Nugent, the Motor City Madman, would emerge as a voice of reason and common sense?

Ted has always been about classic rugged individualism, and hates socialism with a passion. He's a patriot from the classic mold. He's a <strike>nutcase</strike>eccentric in some personal areas, but nobody's perfect.

Mojave Mark on June 28, 2007 at 11:15 PM

Er...thats a bit of a sticking point most of us conservative would like to pretend doesn't exist...After the Mexican American war when the United States purchased the southwest from Mexico we did sign a treaty with Mexico granting Mexican citizens Free right of passage.

It was done because there were several million Mexican citizens who literately became American citizens overnight who still had families in Mexico. So we agreed to their free right of passage so that they could visit their families any time they wanted to.

However also to be fair that free right of passage was never intended to allow tens of millions of Mexicans to illegally enter this country and take up semi-permanent or permanent residency.

The strangle point for news in this world is the EDITORS. It's so bad, so monopolistic in aggressively promoting one viewpoint through the entire media industry, one wonders if RICO would be appropriate charge against them.

Are you kidding me? “Ethnocentric”? Because I expect people to know the second most famous man in reggae music? Not even that I expect them to know who he is, but at least his most famous song “Legalize It.”

Reggae music is far from a well-known music genre in this country. It's enough if Americans know the most famous man who played it.
