David “Idiot Liberals” Obey: These right-wing talk-radio morons must remain free

He got his wish: 309-115, although I suspect the vote will be a shade more “nuanced” if and when they revisit this issue with a Democrat in the White House. Then again, if Bush was willing to push shamnesty, why wouldn’t he be willing to push this?

Many thanks to our pal Captain Ed for the tip on the clip. He liveblogged the whole debate.

“Rush and Sean are just about as important in the scheme of things as Paris Hilton…”

Yeah, because the influence of bloggers and talk radio played no role in the failed shamnesty bill right?

RightWinged on June 28, 2007 at 8:32 PM

Considering Rush Limbaugh is disliked by more than 60% of the American people, “regulating” him isn’t necessary, now is it?

Hannity’s just a tool. No one in politics is more deserving of that designation. And then people like Savage just help us anyway.

So agreed.

Fragility on June 28, 2007 at 8:32 PM

Considering Rush Limbaugh is disliked by more than 60% of the American people

Where did you get that # from?

Spirit of 1776 on June 28, 2007 at 8:33 PM

Again, I sadly have to ask, how on earth could a simpleton like this hold a job in national politics?

“Yap Yap TV” is baby talk. And this guy’s logic is juevenile.

Rush the largest radio audience in history.

90% of all statistics are pulled from the ass.

You do the math.

Spirit of 1776 on June 28, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Yeah, Rush has no influence. Hannity has no influence. Boortz has no influence. Mark Levin has no influence….

Keep that head firmly up your a$$, congresscritter. We like it that way.

But then, I no longer listen to much radio, in favor of internet. HotAir, you are my home, and a major source for me. Fantastic job, Guys! You are especially to be congratulated on the Shamnesty Victory!! We needed info, you gave it to us. We talked together and decided to fight.

That’s what trolls do.

Only engage the troll if you’re bored and want some fun from batting around a troll. Don’t expect to trap him in a corner and make admit his foolishness, though; that’s just not how trolls work.

I have not listened to Rush in years. Not because I don’t want to, it’s a job thing. I may have to figure out a way to have a listen if he is getting them this worked up. Rush and the other radio show hosts had nothing to do with my phone calls and emails to Bonds office. It was all hot airs fault so watch yourselves.

And which question is that? Were you the smartass with the sneering “Is Bin Laden YOUR enemy”? Yeah, obviously.

Let’s not be so negative. Obey seems to be fairly reasonable man for someone so leftist. We should Obey luck in being a missionary of Reason (or least Reason’s second cousin twice removed) to the moonbats.

If “there was a fiercely liberal press that dominated the country, they would be running, kicking and screaming, demanding a Fairness Doctrine”.

Wrong, jackass. The right is more willing to slug it out and let ideas speak for themselves while the left cries to daddy, “Make them be quiet!”

Also, is it me or does this guy sound like Phil Harris?

MikeZero on June 28, 2007 at 8:56 PM

Wouldn’t you admit, Fragility, that half the people who give any kind of negative do so because they are programmed to? I would say that most people who give Rush a negative number have never listened to him, but instead are going based upon the negative press he gets (often based upon out-of-context quotes or other ‘information’ that is used in hit pieces in the dinosaur media). All you have to do to realize where the public is in terms of media savvy is to watch when Leno does his ‘man on the street’ bit on the Tonight Show.

That said, I think everyone you mentioned is just fine. If you don’t like them, then don’t listen to them. They will do just fine anyway. It is only a bunch of Stalinist tools who try to suppress the speech of others they can’t compete with in the marketplace of ideas. Why is there still a PBS or NPR? Why do they get to forcibly take my money to spew their leftist political speech? It has been years since they started saying how they have to fund everything with less public money… but they still get at least half their budgets by confiscating it from the taxpayers.

Abu Daboo Doo on June 28, 2007 at 8:56 PM

Yes, I am happy that this “craziness Fairness” stuff got defeated.

Yes, I am happy that sham-nesty was defeated.

Yes, I am happy that the mainstream media lately have been emphasizing the fact of the open and porous border as a major reason why sham-nesty failed in the Senate.

But I refuse to celebrate, and I refuse to be joyful.

Why?

Allah still has not received his iphone yet.

Folks, we need to call MM: give Allah his phone!!!

ColtsFan on June 28, 2007 at 9:07 PM

Abu Daboo Doo is correct. I hated the idea of talk radio years ago until I started listening and then I was hooked and Rush became the porgram to look forward to.

Considering Rush Limbaugh is disliked by more than 60% of the American people

Hey Fragility:
I went a little further into that link you provided; and when looking at the internals (and I am not an expert at this so I can be corrected) it seems a bit unbalanced. It is also a nation wide poll on only 800 people covering about 30 different people. I wouldn’t put too much stock in that 60% being accurate.

Weight of Glory on June 28, 2007 at 9:09 PM

Kind of a walking cliche, aren’t ya? “Anyone who doesn’t think like me is obviously a communist”.

Random Numbers (Brian Epps) on June 28, 2007 at 9:23 PM

Rush is not all talk radio, neither is Hannity. There is Savage, Medved, Bennet, Smerconish, Beck. and it goes on and on! A whole days worth of talk radio.

smellthecoffee on June 28, 2007 at 9:26 PM

Is that a serious question? Obviously I mean “the most accurate”.

Geeez! I was simply asking for clarification, no need to get all pissy. To say something is the “best” leaves the door open to all sorts of hermeneutical paradigms, allowing for all manner of interpretations to be brought forth. I was merely asking you to narrow your brush a little.

Weight of Glory on June 28, 2007 at 9:30 PM

Weight of Glory on June 28, 2007 at 9:31 PM

So according to Obey’s own (il)logic: Since democrats/liberals are not going bonkers over the NEED to apply the Fairness Doctrine to ANY other form of media (other than talk radio), then they must be satisfied with their control over those outlets.

I get it……(yawn)….

Fragility on June 28, 2007 at 9:12 PM

I take exception with any pollsters numbers. I’ve never been polled by any of these agencies. I think their results are far too narrow to be anywhere accurate less than 40-50%. Look at Katie Couric’s numbers? I just don’t believe it’s accurate at all since she is loosing market share quicker than advertisers and newspaper subscriptions.

Polling science is more like democratic decisions.
Stick a wet finger in the air, and see which way the wind blows.

This is a clear case of projection in the first portion of the clip.

If the right really believes that the media is liberal dominated, we would be calling for a fairness doctrine? Just because it’s what you would do, Congressman, doesn’t mean that we would call for government regulation. There is no logic whatsoever to your argument.

The second clip is just him bloviating about the insignificance of talk radio, which is just wishful thinking on his part.

Yikes! This is a member of Congress!

Talk radio has been a driving force in politics since Rush came on the air. Clinton referred to it as a “vast rightwing conspiracy” when he almost brought him down. It helped stop the Ports deal, the Myers nomination, and now immigration amnesty. It also helped bring into power Newt and the 1994 gang. Hilton has done what?
