Video: Laura Ingraham on the shamnesty debacle

posted at 10:29 pm on June 26, 2007 by Allahpundit

She still thinks there’s a good chance of driving a stake through its heart on Thursday, but has the damage to party credibility already been done? Note what she says at the end about conservatives feeling they have more to fear from business than from liberals. Money: “When Bernie Sanders is more in touch with the American people than President Bush on this issue, you know the Republican Party is in trouble.”

Is it Time yet for a night of the long knives?

Without actual knives, of course, and no S.A. or S.S. allowed, as their reincarnations are already Plentiful over on Kos and DU

But, a Leadership Purge is greatly needed for the GOP

Hey, PRC, you’re looking into lobby dollars, right? What if I put posts up for each Senator we’re looking into and people can post what they find, you don’t need to register to comment, you don’t even need a real email, type in a fake. It’ll help organize everything so there’s less of a jumble of posts here.

Bad Candy on June 26, 2007 at 10:41 PM

I like Laura. If any of you guys haven’t caught her radio show, you’re missing some good stuff.

Unamused is trying to write a database search algorithm for the FEC website. If he’s successful, oh boy, we’ll have all the information we need. Unfortunately, it won’t be done by Thursday, but it will probably be done by the time for the House conference.

PRCalDude on June 26, 2007 at 10:45 PM

There’s a hope, that enough of this mess is unacceptable to opposite sides, for opposite reasons, that it finally dies.

PRC, sounds cool, is there anything I can do? I’d be glad to post findings on each Senator in its own post, or if people pick out stuff on their own. Allah might not want to clutter HA with posts on each person, I’m more than happy to do so.

Where is the FEC data available, and what format is it in? Can you get the data in one download, or do you have to repetitively query a web form?

bofh on June 26, 2007 at 11:11 PM

Unamused is using a third party application to collect the data. He seems to think that parsing it will be easy once it’s collected. I think this is where SQL comes in.

the data is here: http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/norcansea.shtml
Repetitive query, I think.

Bad Candy on June 26, 2007 at 11:24 PM

PRC, email me, cory@waddingham.org. I can host a MySQL database, and can help you sort through the data you’ve collected. I’ve been programming for years, mostly parsing text files to mine data on enterprise systems, this kind of thing is right up my alley.

corbettw on June 26, 2007 at 11:25 PM

WOOHOO! Found a guy! Thanks Corbett!

Awesome! Will we only need one mySQL guy or do we need several? Not that I have anybody, but we can’t just assume one is enough.

I dunno. Too many people could gum up the works. Plus, only Bryan seems to be giving his blessing at this point. Ah well, calling’s not working. Kaus thinks that the cloture voters we saw today were playing kabuki, so this is worth a try.

PRCalDude on June 26, 2007 at 11:34 PM

Well, I was just checking to see if one was enough. I don’t really know what mySQL is, but if it was something that we needed more than one of, I didn’t want people to refrain from stepping up when they saw corbett offer his.

Bad Candy on June 26, 2007 at 11:40 PM

Are we talking to our neighbors? Are we telling our co-workers about this sham-nesty legislation?

Are we emailing relatives about this dangerous legislation?

Are we reminding young people that numbers ranging from 20-40 million new people could be eligible to receive Social Security benefits in the future if this amnesty legislation passes? Folks, there will be no Social Security left, period.

We still need to keep up the pressure. Step up our work a notch or two. Keep plugging away. Be faithful and diligent in making the phone calls.

Keep calling the U.S. Senators and remind them of their sworn testimony on oath to uphold the Constitution instead of taking bribes (PAC money from real estate, agri-business, immigration lobby group, etc).

Keep up the phone calls!!!!

I definitely like her new haircut. Ann Coulter should consider getting one.

Ann Coulter should consider eating. Before she disappears from the scene.

It’s funny, Colmes says that he dislikes this bill for the opposite reasons. Does that mean he thinks the bill is too tough on illegals? Perhaps he would like to see is a bill introduced that would allow the illegals not only to enter the US to become citizens but to enter your houses to become home owners. Also, a clause that allows them legal access to your wife and daughters. That would be the Colmes Admendment. There must be justice, and pleasure, for Che!

jihadwatcher on June 27, 2007 at 5:46 AM

Laura is such a clear thinker. When she and Michelle get together for a discussion, it’s time to listen closely.

“We the people agree to leave it to you the people who know better than the people.”

Mark Steyn was right, I can hear that Old Miss Cheerleader, Trent Lott and Arlen the Specter saying that…

She really has a gift to put things in understandable terms.

The Republican Senators are counting on all you rubes in middle America to forget this whole thing and vote for them rather than their Democratic alternative in the next election cycle! It is time that we get very active and make sure that these guys have a challenge from the right before the general election so that they don’t even make it that far! If I were a democrat running in the next election I would get to the right of these morons and I’d defeat them!

sabbott on June 27, 2007 at 8:17 AM

Yes, Laura is teriffic! You guys should try to catch her program as often as possible. She does give great analysis of what is going on, and it is a fun program.

And yes, she does look great. Thank God she survived the cancer.

Alan wants some type of world government. He will not accept the fact that America can and should control her borders.

So their contribution to our economy is reason to be soft on illegals? By Colmes’s logic, we should re-establish slavery, since it also contributed to our economy.

He conveniently overlooks the fact that many illegals send much of their money back home, and have instead contributed largely to Mexico’s economy.

The DU and the Kossaks are a danger in a “long knives” scenario because most claim to be pacifists. But once they pick up a weapon of any type they prove to all what we know them to be; hypocrites.

TwinkietheKid on June 27, 2007 at 9:01 AM

Bravo Laura, I’m one of those that wants a country and not a global market place. Someone tell El Presidente that no one believes family values stop at the Rio Grande but everyone with half a brain knows that the United States does.

srhoades on June 27, 2007 at 9:11 AM

I made a list of links to Senators that voted for cloture. It is similar to the one Laura had on her home page before cloture. It opens a new window with each link. Hers made it very easy for me to send emails to each one each night.

I made it by cutting and pasting from google to a word document. It Works! Is it skosh to put a list like that in one of these comment columns. Or is it even possible.

unamused on June 27, 2007 at 10:22 AM

I’m sorry – but Laura, and pundits like her, are a big part of the problem here – in my opinion.

The key phrase was at the end of the interview when she said to Alan:

“We Love You!”

That is her typical attitude towards liberals: she loves them, and she gives them a free pass.

NEVER has she uttered a discouraging word about Reid or Pelosi – or demanded their resignations on her show.

NEVER has she uttered a discouraging word about Howard Fineman, Wolf BLitzer, Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews on her show – but she HAS let Matthews come on her show and filibuster and run over her. Same with Fineman.

She HAS attacked Guiliani relentlessly on her show.

She HAS attacked Bush relentlessly on her show – to the point of ad hominem attacks and ridicule.

She has nothing but contempt and rage for any conservative who disagrees with her so much as one iota, and nothing by head-patting for the REAL Terrorists: The Democrats and Liberals who are facilitating the downfall of our society and the deaths of our children at the hands of the people for whom they work: The Terrorists!

Turning this discussion into another “Hate Bush” diatribe, which Laura has been KEY in doing, is the primary thing that has allowed the Mainstream Media to marginalize and silence us. They REJOICE over “cutting off the head” of THEIR enemy – BUSH!

We CANNOT win this by helping Keith Olbermann and Harry Reid slam Bush’s head into the concrete.

grtflmark on June 27, 2007 at 1:14 PM

Colmes argument about illegal immigrants adding to the economy has a logical conclusion. Import 50-100 million poor Chinese peasants to the U.S. to do the jobs that the illegals here already won’t do. That should really pump up our economy if he is correct.

If this bill passes I predict something along these lines could happen, not right away, but maybe 5 years from now as the unintended consequences of “immigration reform” come to pass. Has anyone even discussed the possible unintended consequences?

Snidely Whiplash on June 27, 2007 at 1:19 PM

Hannity and Colmes is going down the tubes by turning into a tabloid gossip discussion show instead of the political debate that used to take place a couple of years ago.

Until last night, they have not discussed immigration Bill instead they have been covering Paris Hilton and the Jessie murder.Last Thursday after the bill was brought back they spent 45 minutes on the Jessie murder case and Paris Hilton.

Quite frankly, FoxNews has dropped the ball on immigration coverage having all these tabloid gossip shows on since the bill was revived. I am not alone in thinking FoxNews is supporting open borders.

Rush Limbaugh brought it up yesterday on his program. He said FoxNews has dropped the ball on covering the Senate Immigration Amnesty Bill.

ScottyDog on June 27, 2007 at 3:23 PM

Hey all first post here, was listening to hannity on the drive home and caught the interview with senator Voinovich from Ohio on the Amnesty bill. Pompous does not even begin to describe Voinovich, it was amazing to listen to, and hannity didn’t let up. He(Voinovich)ended up hanging up on him. I don’t think he’ll be on seans show for quite some time.
