Ah yes, the Trent Lott argument: if we weren’t all so lazy, illiterate and mind-controlled by talk radio, we’d know there are some “great things” in this bill.

The problem is, none of those “great things” are ever enumerated in this argument, so, by all means, expound away, with specific references (for those of us who actually have read this bill, and the amendments). And be sure to explain how all these “great things” counterbalance such things as 24-hour background checks, laughable proof of residency before 1/1/07, and making all those poor, unfortunate gang members legit by simply swearing that they’ve gone straight.

While you’re at it, you might also want to explain why there are 28 pages in this bill dedicated to something called “Unaccompanied Alien Child Protection Act of 2007.” Do we have hoards of alien children being abandoned in Kansas that we haven’t heard about? Or could this be the explanation?

Please, enlighten us.

So, the amendment is 370+ pages.
Wasn’t the original bill 300+ pages?

That makes for a lot of loopholes…

Any enforcement provision is cut off at the knees by re-defining illegals as something other than illegals, with an opportunity to cash in on their crime.

The toughest enforcement measures are moot if you give them a card that makes it ok for them to be here, regardless of how they did.

That’s the big lie that the media will not report.

Eventually there will be such a huge population of hispanic people living in the USA and especially within the border states that the political leaders who emerge will demand justice for Mexicans in Mexico. This is the grand scheme. That a mexican popular movement will cause the ruling class in Mexico City to cut a deal to incorporate Mexico into Greater North America. We need the buffer from those fools in South America. That’s the only silver lining I can see, cheap land sales in Mexico to gringos who want to invest and security and a huge devoted christian population to help pay for my social security in 20 years. Just trying to keep it real.

Yea I brought that up. I asked what the senator would do if steps were taken to limit debate and the range of amendments introduced. Again, the answer was very well worded but evasive none-the-less.

One of the arguments put forth by the supporters of illegal immigration is that these people are doing jobs we won’t do. I submit it’s jobs WE CAN”T GET because they’ve been filled with illegals who work for next to nothing.

Just spoke with someone from Senator Webb’s office and here’s what he told me: Today’s vote was more of a procedural vote than anything else. Senator Webb will be introducing an amendment that severely restricts what is currently in the bill. He has serious reservations about the bill in its current form but is hopeful that his amendment will solve many of the problems in it.

I then asked what the Senators final position would be if the bill remained more or less in tact come the real vote, to which I received a polite, well worded, and amazingly evasive answer.
