Hot Air Video: RNC Refund

Our fourth anti-amnesty ad: If the Senate won’t listen, we’ll have to speak its language.
Here’s the blip version, in case YouTube malfunctions.
Here’s the script:
They just don’t listen.
You’ve called, you’ve faxed, you’ve e-mailed your objection to the Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill. But they didn’t listen.
Instead, they did the bidding of Big Business. Big Business lobbyists pour cash into politics and fund grand advertising campaigns. Most Americans are limited to small donations and have no voice in the media.
But if you’re a conservative fed up with Republican scheming on this bill, you can do something about it. If you gave to the party in the past year, you can demand your money back. Call the Republican National Committee today and demand a full refund.
If you gave to any senator or congressman in the past year, call their office and demand a full refund.
Money seems to be the one thing our politicians understand.
Maybe they’ll listen if we speak their language.
After you’ve made your refund calls, you can channel some of your anger into constructive work. One, Michelle has the “clay pigeon” amendment and it’s ready to be dug through. Two, you can join the effort that’s already underway in the comments to this post and dig through the Open Secrets archive to expose who owns the senators who voted for cloture today. Let’s expose what they’re doing, expose who owns them, and then cut off their money. If you want to win and kill this bill, this is how to do it.

Exactly. And as Dick Morris has pointed out no, nobody is doing this.

…yes, by donating and voting for Arlen Specter…
The Republicans will NEVER see another dime from me.

Just did a quick check of NewsBusters, HA, LGF, MM, and Ace. Didn’t see anyone coming remotely close to this level of detail. All discussions involved mailing Tea Bags, asking for refunds, calling Senator’s and Representatives, and expressing general disgust. Again, I haven’t seen anyone discussing/researching to this level of detail. I’ll keep looking anyways since I am nowhere near as smart about this computer program search stuff as you guys.

Sweet mother. Some of these ‘homemakers’ have more than one address. Better add ’same name/different address’ to the criteria.

You guys are serious? I think you all are a bunch of Moby’s pretending to be Republicans while really working to sabotage the party. If you don’t like it, leave it. It’s pretty darned simple, stop whining.
If the “far right” gets its way on immigration you are probably looking at Democrats getting a veto proof majority and a much worse bill getting passed after 08. Y’all are cutting off your noses to spite your faces.
crosspatch on June 26, 2007 at 9:48 PM
With all due respect, why aren’t the Democrats who are the wellspring of this entire immigration mess in which we are stuck being held as accountable? Aren’t they being squeezed by their constituents, (R) or (D)? Or are they not?
Don’t get any sense that they are feeling any pressure whatsoever, but maybe they are. All the rage seems to have been adroitly directed to the GOP. It’s tricky – the GOP Senators who cave, deserve the wrath, but they are caving under the pressure from the “shove it down your throats” Democrats, notably Kennedy, who was the main architect of the immigration fiasco that exists today. I don’t mind seeing the likes of Graham being swept from office, but how come Kennedy never gets swept? Massachusetts was the only state recently that has lost population – people fleeing.
Sorry, everything about this entire situation is so odd. The big winners will be the Democrats who hang on to their seats, yet they are the ones ultimately responsible for the problem in the first place. How are they pulling this off?

The sugar industry is who has bought off senator Craig.
And this is how much support you get from the GOP when you buck their source of money.
I’ll be contacting senator Craig and his contributors in the morning.

How interesting. In order to make spread the money out, a donor will donate individually, then under ‘Real Estate’ again, and often put ‘Real Estate’ after the name of his company.
PRCalDude on June 26, 2007 at 10:01 PM
One thing to also consider is when the list of donors is compiled, those companies need to be contacted and let them know “we” are not happy and will not buy/use/view their products.
Any thoughts?

If you want to have a “grassroots revolution,” the grassroots must FIRST revolt.
You *start* with the LOCAL party appratus — the ward/precint committeemen.
You tell them that you WILLNOT support the lowest ranking candidate for dogcatcher and everyone abouve.
You tell the state Rep PARTY chair that the party can go to hell. Since 15 + of them voted for cloture, tell them to kiss your suupport good by.
My 2 cents..

One thing is for sure… Shamrock Foods won’t want to be publicly blamed for our poor border security and bankrupted entitlements.
And that’s exactly why we’ll make sure they take that blame.
The senators are human. They will take money no matter what. But if we make it expensive to do business this way, they’ll stop.

csdeven on June 26, 2007 at 11:26 PM
A short, effective action plan:
1. Uncover the largest donors to the RINOs in question. I see this is well underway now.
2. Innundate said largest donors with emails, faxes and phone calls to let them know that WE no longer support THEM because THEY supported the RINOs. Doesn’t matter what industry they’re from, from medical, to pharmaceutical, to tech industries. Simply doesn’t matter, we NO LONGER SUPPORT THEM. Period. Then don’t buy a single item from them, their stores, etc, wherever possible.
3. We let ALL of the RINOs know we no longer are buying anything from their donors. Period. Christmas is coming, food vendors MUST move Thanksgiving and Christmas staples or they’ll be seriously hurt. Swanson’s, meat-processing companies, etc. Ideally, if this can be organized before the July 4th shopping, the food MFGs should notice this immedately.
4. We need a rally point, a website where this information is clearly posted, both to avoid duplication of effort and to show congresscritters that WE ARE SERIOUS. Something like “www.fightcongress.com” or “www.not-another-dime.com” ought to work nicely, if it’s not already taken.
5. Once organized thus, we begin to seriously call attention to our actions through contacting media all over the country. Local newspapers, major newspapers, television and radio stations, etc. The Dems love a good organized protest, and though they might be rooting for our failure, failure is simply NOT AN OPTION here.
That’s it, just 5 steps, carried out over the next 6 months. Money is the key to power. Let’s refuse to help anyone who refuses to help us!
Of course, we’ll still have to email our congresscritters daily and weekly to let them know that we are still REALLY peeved at them. It is my hope that the Republicans are actually a little smarter than the credit we’re alloting to them, and once Dictator Reid exposes just how little debate he’ll allow on this “clay pigeon” amendment, they’ll cut and run from this bill. Again, they’ll be able to say “Well, we all tried to work with that distinguished gentleman, the Senator from Nevada, but since he’s such a sneaky slimy bastard, we ultimately cannot vote for this bill.” This is my guiding hope at this poin;, simply that no matter what Reid says, in the end they’ll do exactly the opposite of what President Bush wants.
It’s going to take far more than 520,000 people to carry this out effectively though.
We also need some bumper stickers which have an unchecked box by Democrat, an unchecked box by Republican, and a BIG checked box by ANYONE ELSE RUNNING FOR CONGRESS! Obviously this message needs to be made even clearer for those currently serving in Congress!

Michelle, the Republican party is more then a one issues party. You should think about that before you start asking Americans to bankrupt the RNC because you disagree with them on one issues.
chip91 on June 26, 2007 at 11:59 PM
Hey chip, it doesn’t matter if the elites in DC only disagree on this one issue. They’ll be powerless anyway because the GOP will become a permanent minority under amnesty anyway. And they don’t care, they’ll all take cushy Lobby jobs afterward.
Bad Candy on June 27, 2007 at 12:04 AM
Hate to burst your bubble on this one, but it’s precisely due to the willful deviation on multitude of issues that this one has become so important.

asking Americans to bankrupt the RNC because you disagree with them on one issues.
chip91 on June 26, 2007 at 11:59 PM
That’s ok they have their big donors to save them. You know the ones now giving to the Dems because they are in power. The ones pushing for this bill.
When you deal with those without morals you get what you get. I think if the GOP abandon’s their corebeliefs because they want the money of the big donors then they can’t have it both ways.

Editor on June 27, 2007 at 12:25 AM
chip91 on June 26, 2007 at 11:59 PM
Way to totally not get the point. The entire point of representative democracy is that you elect representatives who well..represent the will of those who elect them. When those representatives point blank refuse to represent their constitutes it stops being a representative democracy and becomes a tyranny of the minority.
Now nearly every single senator, not just the republican senators but all of them were hearing from their constitutes on this bill, and they were hearing opposition to this bill at a ratio of something like 90 to 1 against this bill.
The majority of people who post here at HA are conservatives, that means that by and large our representatives are republican. Since they are the ones who we support, donate to and vote for it is only logical that they are the ones we are going to put the most pressure on for this betrayal.
And that is exactly what this vote was, as betrayal, we let them know in no uncertain terms with a staggering volume of e-mails fax’s and phone calls that we opposed this bill and they voted for it anyway. They betrayed us and now they are going to pay for that betrayal.
doriangrey on June 27, 2007 at 12:27 AM
Come on doriangrey, Republican Senators didn’t “betray” you. You disagree with them on an issue. It’s hard to get an elected official who agrees with you 100% of the time.

F15Mech on June 27, 2007 at 12:47 AM
Hell yes they did betray us. Some of them swore there would be no amnesty, and here they are supporting one. I don’t expect agreement 100% of the time, but when something is running 75% opposition, you don’t f*cking do it!
Bad Candy on June 27, 2007 at 12:49 AM
Umm what would you call it when the majority of people do not favor this bill and it somehow gets past Cloture?

Mojave Mark on June 27, 2007 at 12:56 AM
I’m laughing for the first time today. The republicans have been betraying their base for years. The spending orgy of the last 6 years alone cost at least Jim Talent his office (and deservedly so). Interestingly, Claire McCaskill (D-MO) seems to understand this and also, she voted against cloture while Kit Bond (R-MO) voted for it, apparently so he can vote against it after he voted for it or some such Kerryesque BS. Pres. Bush didn’t stand up and sound like he had a pair until he went after the republican base opposed to amnesty. If he had been that direct and hard-hitting at the dems for the last 6 years we wouldn’t have a lot of the messes we have now. We have higher food costs because the republicans support taking money confiscated from us to subsidize ethanol which is unsustainable instead of drilling in ANWR, in the new reserves found in the Gulf and while still prohibiting any new refineries. The republicans had control of both Houses and the White house for 6 years and were unable or unwilling to protect our security through intelligent energy policy. Etc.
I could list instance after instance when the republican leadership has either directly betrayed their base or rolled over and played dead and let the leftists damage this nation. This is not a single issue disagreement. This is just the most recent and probably the most blatant disregarding of their base and the general electorate in the last several decades. This is just where we finally draw the line. This is where the betrayed base finally says enough is enough. This is our tax stamp moment. The question is whether it will lead eventually to a rhetorical Boston Tea Party or a necessary actual re-fighting of the Mexican War.

Meanwhile you have Sen Warner (R-VA) voting for it, and Sen Webb (D-VA) voting for it before he votes against the entire bill on Thurs.

I just received my first “Census Questionnaire”, selected as one of the “Chosen Few” to represent my district, to fill out and return with a charitable donation (save the cost of $11 to process my form), along with a nice, hefty dose of “Do your part as a proud Republican” letter.
Almost sent it out today with the intent to allow “250 more Republicans like me” to have the same opportunity…
Is this the same kind of scheme? Now that I’ve gone through this thread, I’m withholding my funds.

And the most important, imo; Rule of law must define the character of the nation.
Spirit of 1776 on June 27, 2007 at 1:41 AM
I’m tired of this argument – it is the same one that Michael Medved makes all the time and I quit listening to him. By this line of logic, we should support whatever the Republican Party does – no matter what – because to not support Republican Party means we will be somehow worse off with the Democrats. I got news for you – how much worse off can we be than giving away the entire country to the illegals.
Sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand and let your party know that can’t take your support for granted. That is exactly what is going on here – they think that this will blow over and that voters have short term memories which, in the past, has been proven to be all too true. We can’t let them off the hook on this one!
tballard on June 27, 2007 at 1:51 AM
Admittedly guys, I’m new to blogging; though I’ve been a guest here for months. Not sure what imo is; and no, it was from the Republican National Committee. I attended a Governor’s Ball for R-NV Gibbons a few months ago; assumed that’s where they got my name…
Still not sure, but it looked legit. Yet, I don’t feel so good about it anymore.
nationspatriotcom on June 27, 2007 at 4:08 AM
My vote goes with the betrayed camp. It’s “We The People” not “You Big Business” and sorry Mr. Bush but money actually doesn’t trump all. In politics votes trump all.
We’re not going to take down the RNC by asking for our money back or not donating. They’re obviously happiest as a rich corrupt minority. But we have the votes to put them out of office if we work this right. If we work real hard we can destroy their political careers and smear a big black mark across their names forever.
Buzzy on June 27, 2007 at 4:35 AM
I would like to add, being a Catholic I’ve withdrawn my church donations. Anyone can look at State Catholic Conference in Archdiocese (Advocacy Center) see how much wasted money is spent on advising Catholics to call senators and how to vote. Money seems to be the one thing our politicians/Catholic Church understand.

While the idea sounds like it would work, let me encourage to think differently. Where the image of deporting millions of illegals seems daunting to anyone, the IRS can and will take every penny you earn by any means necessary, up to and including every penny in your bank account.
And they will do it very easily. Plus, you would lose any voice in the political arena you ever had, because you would be a wanted person.
Illegals don’t have the right to vote (except in certain areas) and only have power through money they can generate.
Sensei Ern on June 27, 2007 at 9:53 AM

tballard on June 27, 2007 at 1:51 AM
I also am tired of of this argument. I see 2 obvious problems with it. 1) Integrity. Conservatives tend to have a lot more of it than I see on the left. Having integrity means that we won’t let something wrong, wrong, wrong exist simply because fighting it may mean something else bad. Wrong and evil is wrong and evil and it must be stopped. The only time the “lesser of two evils” option tends to really applies is in modern voting for a US President. (2) Survival. This bill along with the federal government’s continued refusal to enforce our laws, secure our borders and ensure our sovereignty is as much of a threat to our survival as the democrats. If you have a cancer, killing it and cleaning it out of your body is a painful and debilitating process. However, if you fail to remove the cancer, it will destroy you. Once the sickness is purged from the body, the body can heal and even be stronger than before. The entrenched GOP has now shown itself to be cancerous. The Democrats and leftists are a plague. A cancer can be cured, a plague must be stopped. If we can cure the cancer we can stop the plague. If I have to vote for a democrat for POTUS to force the republicans to fight the cancer and cure the GOP, I’ll take that medicine.
deepdiver on June 27, 2007 at 10:46 AM
Hey, I did this in the 04 election locally. Tell the first person you talk to that you only want to speak with the person that is authorized to write a check and be sure to get their name. They will attempt to stonewall you, just keep asking for the person that writes the checks.

Both Florida senators are hopeless on this issue. Nelson just won re-election and Martinez isn’t up for 4 more years. In spite of overwhelming numbers of citizens that called for the defeat of this bill both voted for it. Both men have made it a point to ignore the opposition, calling it “racist and uninformed”. Translation ” You’re too damn dumb to know what’s good for you”.
Arrogant and corrupt is a poor but all too common condition among our elected “representatives”. Throw them all out!

Why does the Republican Party support these types when it’s well known how liberal they are, unless the Republican standards, platform have changed to a more liberal point of view?
