Video: Glorious Iraqi resistance routs Marine Army crusader occupiers

posted at 10:57 pm on June 25, 2007 by Allahpundit

It’s a metaphor, I guess. Meanwhile, in Baquba: “[I]s there a way to reduce those house-borne I.E.D.’s without destroying the whole block?”

Update: I didn’t notice the patches on the uniforms in the clip but JD Johannes did. He e-mails to say that they’re Army.

Blowback

If these guys were anyone but soldiers, I’m sure this thread would be full of jokes about farm animals. I know several.

thedecider on June 25, 2007 at 11:05 PM

Why they allow uncontrolled cameras in a war zone is one of the dumbest ideas this modern military has brainlessly permitted. (From Abu Ghraib onward.)

Whatever happened to security?

The next sheep could have a flap of its wool cut open, folded up, a bomb attached with superglue to its hide, the flap replace, and then the fun and games would get messy.

The enemy isn’t silly or stupid or undevious.

Our side’s leaders (and battlefield security standards setters) sure seem to be.

Heh – Trojan Sheep. Very clever.

thedecider on June 25, 2007 at 11:06 PM

Sometimes a sheep is just a sheep.

Mindcrime on June 25, 2007 at 11:06 PM

Did this hajji sheep also kill female sheep (ewes?) and hide behind baby sheep when attacking Americans? Only then would it be a true mujahadeen sheep.

Funny clip though.

IES? (Improvised Explosive Sheep)

Definately a “jump the shark” moment for the insurgents.

Sam W.-

They’ve already wired bombs to dogs (since they consider mutts “unclean”… but maybe they think more highly of sheep..).

I trust their cunning and cruelty.

And our naivete.

profitsbeard on June 25, 2007 at 11:25 PM

Eweeeeeeeeeeeeeee …This is HILARIOUS! Thanks!

labwrs on June 25, 2007 at 11:29 PM

At least the sheep follow the geneva conventions with their “sheep uniforms” so we can tell them apart from the innocent civilians.
Now all we have to do is stop provoking them and making them attack us. I mean how would you feel if the Americans were tying your family members up and stealing their wool? I rest my case.
I know……. I’m dumb

See now, you have just identified another historic tragedy based on failure to proofread. The proffet was a bit inattentive one afternoon, and wrote down “mutt” instead of “mutton”. And since Allah was busy cursing the Jooos that day, he never insisted that Gabriel follow through with his proofreading.

RushBaby on June 25, 2007 at 11:51 PM

csdeven on June 25, 2007 at 11:49 PM

LOL! That cracked me up. To answer your question…

thedecider on June 25, 2007 at 11:53 PM

Of course Marines would run from sheep. You need to send out some National Guard types to handle those beasts. Preferably ones from West Virginia.

corbettw on June 25, 2007 at 11:53 PM

Rushbaby-

That’s Rushdie’s whole “Satanic verses” argument.

Bad proofreading by an illiterate.

“Allah” was originally “Alley Oop”.

They are, but the sheep aren’t, and neither are their owners. Anyway, I was noticing the American soldiers wear their pants tucked into lace-up boots, which makes a good impression in a video of this nature. I didn’t see what the locals were wearing. . .

smellthecoffee on June 26, 2007 at 12:12 AM

Regarding that photo in the Times story, it looks weird. Not saying that it’s fauxtography, but three things seem odd: 1) the sleeveless t-shirt 2) the fact that he’s wearing all his gear without his outer shirt (as if he’s being posed), and 3) he look unusually clean. Think about it. Most of the combat troops look like they’ve been going a week or two without a proper shower.

Just sayin’.

thedecider on June 26, 2007 at 12:30 AM

So the sheep can’t get their hooves into the waistbands of their trousers. Verrry clever.

smellthecoffee on June 26, 2007 at 12:50 AM

Answers to above questions:
1. These days we do not let Sheep herds close to our compounds/patrols because IED’s have been strapped to sheep.
2. Not Marines. They are wearing Tri-colors and if you look closely you can see a patch on the left shoulder of one of the soldiers. Marines do not wear patches as a general rule.
3.In answer to the question in the original post, there isn’t much you can do about IED’s that are set up around in oor on houses. Everything is done to negate collateral damage but sometimes it happens, no human life is worth any house, they are ususally payed for damages as long as they had nothing to do with it.
I know the first two answers are kind of like splitting hairs, but it’s a Marine thing. I appreciate all of the good reporting hot air does! Semper Fi.

The patch you speak of the square with three diagonal bars?

American8298 on June 26, 2007 at 1:55 AM

“[I]s there a way to reduce those house-borne I.E.D.’s without destroying the whole block?”

Of course not. This shouldn’t even be a question at this point in the war. If we’d done this from the beginning, there’d be thousands more Iraqis alive.

IES? (Improvised Explosive Sheep)

Johnny Carson had that idea years ago, during one of his Karnak The Magnificent skits:

Karnak holds envelope to his head and says,
“Sis boom bah”.

He opens the envelope and reads,
“Describe the sound when a sheep explodes.”

Bigfoot on June 26, 2007 at 8:19 AM

Decider…using ‘Trojan’s’ and ‘sheep’ together in the same sentence conjures up all kinds of images !

DoctorDentons on June 26, 2007 at 8:32 AM

A brainstorm just happened.
Why don’t the Army use these sheep as point-sheep when we are on patrol. That would save our roadside bomb casualties. The worst that would happen is: “instant mutton.”
The best that would happen is the creation of martyr sheep who then get 72 virgin sheep to do sheep stuff with for eternity after they are blown up. The allah of sheep will be well pleased! Pictures of the brave sheep will be posted in all the schools! Allah Akbar!
…But where are the burkas for the ewes? I digress…

polokfla on June 26, 2007 at 8:42 AM

Thank GAWD these guys were Army. If they were Marines I don’t think even LiveLeak would release the video!…perhaps the end when all the sheep had cigarettes and a strange smile on their faces…

Pilgrim on June 26, 2007 at 8:55 AM

Glad I’m not a Hindu.

What is this comment supposed to mean?

It is obvious that these soldiers have no experience with livestock. All livestock, including sheep (ewes & rams) have the potential to be dangerous. Sure, sure, all fun and games right? Who was keeping watch while they were distracted? And judging from the wool load these sheep were carrying, concealing an remotely detonated IED would be a simple matter.

radjah shelduck on June 26, 2007 at 9:40 AM

Great screen cap!!

Sounds like something ‘Baghdad Bob’ would be spewing!!

That ram was just defending his ewes. And, ewes are not dangerous. Rams can be though. I raised sheep for 4-H, way back in the day. Sheep can be the dumbest animals in the world.

That video was priceless.

Since there a no virgins left for the suicide bombers the mullahs are now promising sheep. My guess is that sheep are highly valued animals these days.
