Report: Rosie’s “Price Is Right” deals implodes, but…

posted at 10:00 am on June 25, 2007 by Allahpundit

Barbara misses her almost as much as we do.

According to figures obtained from Nielsen/Soundscan by our crack research department, “The View” sank like a stone during the first two weeks of June, right after Rosie left.

Indeed, “The View” suffered a 13 percent decline in household ratings, and a 9 percent decline in overall ratings the combined weeks of June 4h and 11 compared with Rosie’s last two weeks.

Here are some stats: The week of May 21, Rosie’s last week (even though no one knew it), the show had an average of 3.8 million viewers a day. But the week of June 11, the ratings were down to 3.35 million viewers a day.

As for Ro herself, Roger Friedman reports at the same link that the Price Is Right thing simply can’t be done. They’re in LA, she’s in NY, and never the twain shall meet. She’s wasted in that format anyway. What Friedman doesn’t tell you in the article, but did tell Matt Drudge during a chat on the latter’s radio show last night, is where Rosie probably is headed. Johnny Dollar’s got the audio. I won’t spoil the surprise, which ain’t much of a surprise, except to say she’ll fit in right in.

Update: Confirmed. Well, the PIR part, anyway.

Blowback

A circus isn’t a circus without a clown.

Limerick on June 25, 2007 at 10:04 AM

I was hoping Rosie could do for The Price is Right what Katie did for CBS.

TheSitRep on June 25, 2007 at 10:06 AM

Oh the temerity of a Rosie becoming an American institution–beloved, admired and respected such as Bob Barker. What have we done to this country?

Danny B on June 25, 2007 at 10:10 AM

Maybe they lost 500,000 viewers because it’s summer vacation, those kids are home from school and someone has to keep an eye on them.

tlynch001 on June 25, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Anything that lessons the number of “The View” posts here is a good thing.

bj1126 on June 25, 2007 at 10:17 AM

Great news! What a massive train wreck a talk show on MSNBC would be! A dream come true, right Allah?

SouthernDem on June 25, 2007 at 10:18 AM

Likely the number of conservatives who tuned in just to see if she was going to say something stupid.

Darksbane on June 25, 2007 at 10:18 AM

I wonder what Olbermann thinks of this news?

Slublog on June 25, 2007 at 10:21 AM

Bob Barker was such a classy guy, old school. What a horrible contrast if Tokyo Rosie took over. Everytime the Plinko machine malfunctioned, she’d somehow blame Bushie.

malkinmania on June 25, 2007 at 10:22 AM

Exactly at what point in time can I put on the news or go on to any online news website and not see this overblown, overrated, overexposed bag of yesterday’s wind continue to get totally unnecessary coverage? She is now in the same league with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton, in that NONE of them will go away!

pilamaye on June 25, 2007 at 10:22 AM

The powers that be at the Price is Right were frightened of her end of the show tagline, “…don’t forget to have your conservatives spayed or neutered…” Let her go to MSNBC and disappear into irrelevancy just like every other personality that goes there.

LawCon on June 25, 2007 at 10:24 AM

The best quote from the People.com article is Roh-Roh saying the Price is Right “…is what America needs right now.”

My brain is still trying to process that remark. I fear a kernal panic is imminent…

Mindcrime on June 25, 2007 at 10:27 AM

AP- did you or those that sent the links to you or Ian actually watch to “The View” before Rosie was on, or did you watch to see the trainwreck as it unfolded? My guess is that the spike they saw in ratings was due to people turning into to see a Springer kinda day…They had an increase due to our curiosity….JMO…

Pam on June 25, 2007 at 10:29 AM

Whew. No Rosie.

Nethicus on June 25, 2007 at 10:31 AM

Maybe the fat pig will take Scarborough’s place on MSNBC.

Frank Nitti on June 25, 2007 at 10:34 AM

I think it’s funny that the guy mentions how his hits go up every time he posts something about Rosie. That happens whenever anyone posts something about Ron Paul, too. Gee, what’s the correlation between those two?! ;-)

Hint: They’re not necessarily the kind of hits you want.

aero on June 25, 2007 at 10:36 AM

THANK GOD! She’s a waste of humanity.

ophelia on June 25, 2007 at 10:42 AM

Though I think no one can really replace Bob imo… Rosie would have been a disaster. Like the Titanic… the RO’berg would have sunk the show

ThinkingForMyself on June 25, 2007 at 10:44 AM

The withdrawal is tough huh Allah?

conservnut on June 25, 2007 at 10:52 AM

The drop in viewers could be the departure of hard-core leftists and sapphics.

archon2001 on June 25, 2007 at 10:57 AM

I blame Rush Limbaugh

tomas on June 25, 2007 at 11:00 AM

I wonder what Olbermann thinks of this news?

Slublog on June 25, 2007 at 10:21 AM

He’s probably thinking its time to quit taking the psych meds and go full bore. He’s gonna have competition now for the moonbat audience.

Bad Candy on June 25, 2007 at 11:18 AM

Whew! TPIR will continue to be a respected part of Americas TV culture.

Hopefully, NBC will pay her millions and then go bankrupt when no one shows up to watch Rosie’s diatribes.

csdeven on June 25, 2007 at 11:32 AM

I don’t see how she can mix Trutherism with a game show.

Christine on June 25, 2007 at 11:41 AM

Praise God! The last thing I wanted to see was that airheaded bimbo take over a respected and well-loved gameshow…right after dear old Barker retired. X-P

Dark-Star on June 25, 2007 at 11:52 AM

Maybe the fat pig will take Scarborough’s place on MSNBC.
Frank Nitti on June 25, 2007 at 10:34 AM

If the show in question is on MSNBC who would see it?

jim_in_phoenix on June 25, 2007 at 12:11 PM

A circus isn’t a circus without a clown.

Limerick on June 25, 2007 at 10:04 AM

..or an elephant.

Alden Pyle on June 25, 2007 at 12:14 PM

Here’s wishing Rosie all the success with her MSNBC show as Phil Donahue had.

saint kansas on June 25, 2007 at 12:29 PM

I seem to recall that The View was losing ratings anyway. They got a bump when Rosie first came on, and then they have started going down. I’d be curious to know if it’s typical for them to lose viewers in the summer.

JannyMae on June 25, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Maybe Rosie can get on that show where the fat Hollywood has- beens try to lose weight in front of a trio of slave drivers.

pat on June 25, 2007 at 12:51 PM

I’m sure Olberman questions the timing of this.

revolutionismyname on June 25, 2007 at 1:07 PM

Watching Rosie is like watching a trainwreck. You just can’t not watch her (at least the clips you posted here).

She would have killed the Price is Right if they had hired her. If there is one thing that Bob Barker did it was to protect the show from anyone who might dislike his views (despite his strong animal-rights views, he always downplayed them on the show). I don’t think Rosie would have the class or intellect to do the same about her moonbatism.

Abu Daboo Doo on June 25, 2007 at 1:12 PM

It would have been fitting in a way if see-BS had hired that bovine. I’m glad I’m down to only two or three shows I watch on that network….

RexDawg68 on June 25, 2007 at 1:13 PM

…Too bad “Hollywood Squares” isn’t on anymore..(or, is it?) She woulda fit right in with those “has-beens”..

pilamaye on June 25, 2007 at 10:22 AM

And in an amazing coincidence, she weighs exactly as much as they do combined.

Sam Laredo on June 25, 2007 at 1:15 PM

I’d like to think of her more as a “never was”.

imshocked on June 25, 2007 at 1:49 PM

I hear Air America needs announcers. Come to think of it, they need an audience, too.

Lassie on June 25, 2007 at 2:14 PM

Rosie is going to star in a new Godzilla movie.

I saw an early trailer to the movie and during a fight with Godzilla, Big Rouses her special ability of “gum-chewing-gum-spitting” to glue Godzilla to Tokyo Tower…but just when you think she is going to win Godzilla uses his breath weapon to incinerate her Tin Foil Hat…

You’ll have to wait for the movie to know who comes out on top.

Montana on June 25, 2007 at 2:40 PM

Glad to hear it. After a “honeymoon period” when tons of people would have watched PIR to see how outrageous Rosie would be, her nasty undertones and political views would have turned off the little old ladies and gents as well as the other bedrock US citizens who have watched that show for decades.

Qzsusy on June 25, 2007 at 2:41 PM

If Rose gets a show and the government decides the 1st amendment does not need be followed and passes Fairness Doctrine, what can we expect for the opposite view?

A thin, conservative, heterosexual man who stands upright?

Wade on June 25, 2007 at 3:12 PM

Imagine implementing the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ on any show with Rosie…

Entelechy on June 25, 2007 at 4:09 PM

I think Rosie let the PIR deal go when she found out that the little housewives didn’t have to kiss her on the cheek.

Mephistefales on June 25, 2007 at 5:04 PM

With Rosie on board they could have changed the name of that game from Plinko to Pinko. Plus what would become of Barker’s beauties? Maybe replaced by 5 women that look like Bea Arthur in bicycle jackets? At least she could have shared wardrobes with Rod Roddy… I think she would look great in those sequin jackets.

Joey1974 on June 25, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Meant to say motorcycle jackets sorry

Joey1974 on June 25, 2007 at 5:12 PM

NBC has been known as the Peacock network for too long. Now it’s gonna stand for Nothing But Conspiracies.
Since she didn’t get TPIR, maybe she could host an updated version of To Tell the Truther, or Truther or Consequences. Just an idea…

PowWow on June 25, 2007 at 6:49 PM

Olbermann plus Rosie! Sounds like a cat fight waiting to happen. Which princess will prevail?

ericire12 on June 25, 2007 at 8:42 PM

The price is wrong! B*tch! Adam Sandler.

Speakup on June 25, 2007 at 10:32 PM

Sam Laredo on June 25, 2007 at 1:15 PM

But she wouldnt have fit in the square

malkinmania on June 25, 2007 at 11:05 PM

Waiting for the Terrorists to reject her support based on her porcine resemblence. But she is almost 72 Virgins; packaged as one Big Box Shipment!

Dhole on June 26, 2007 at 12:18 AM

Damn! If only Ronald Reagan hadn’t been elected President…oh yea…we are blaming Bush for everything now…sorry I have to get with the program here! This is great news for NBC! It should do wonders for Brian Williams ratings!
