Total War and Rome: Total War are good titles as well; playing as a Catholic country in the former can be difficult when the Pope calls a crusade. Of course, my dad, bless his heart, took out the pope and installed his own. Not sure what happened after that..I can’t bring myself to try it.
I didn’t know they had turn based games on console systems…they’ve got some great turn based games on PC..Jagged Alliance 2…made in 1998 but it’s a classic; more recent is Silent Storm by Nival..Hammer and Sickle, where you are a Russian intelligence officer operating in Germany…yes, the developers are European and I don’t think it sold big but the turn based combat is superb..never cared much for Starcraft. I always enjoyed the warcraft world. More recently, I’ve been playing around with Direct Action; Dale Brown wrote the story for that one. It’s got some modern politics in it, and yes, cheesy cutscenes. Basically, a Russian oil magnate is funding terrorist strikes on his competition to drive their prices up…some of the missions have a slight 24 feel to them..some are just plain old slog it out combat. As for releases to look forward to..how about Stranglehold? Chow Yun Fat reprises his role as Inspector Tequila..coming out this August. Think Max Payne but infinitely cooler.

The Byzantines use of superior technology and engineering (AND WALLS!) allowed them to survive countless invasions and sieges by islamists until 1453 – Which was when Constantinople fell due to islamist attackers getting thier hands on huge artillery that made Constantinoples walls obsolete.

Who these “Romans” are they think they defeated without loss out on the battlefield is kind of a mystery.

Why is this ok, but one would never see a game that glorified the Crusades

There were a few board games that had maps and unit types for the Crusades. Medieval II Total Warfare lets you setup some pretty good battles against Muslims.

1096 should be glorified since the West responded to four hundred years of Islamic genocide against fellow Christians. Two-thirds of Christianity was overrun by Islam. The Crusaders stopped Islamic expansion into the West and gave the Byzantines almost four hundred years before the Turks started that genocide.

Contrast this to true Christianity “conquers” through the two greatest of attributes: love and goodness.

When they say Romans, I’m guessing they mean Byzantines? The “other” Romans (Catholics) didn’t show up until 1096 and then opened a can of whoop-ass all over the Arabs and Turks.

I’m down with “The Hammer”. Shooter may be backing Charlemagne, but remember he learned all about saving the world from grampa. When it comes to kicking the crap out of fanatical jihadists Martel wrote the book. And besides could your countrymen bestow a cooler sobriquet than “The Hammer”?

Ok. Let’s somebody re-program this game and insert a program piece where you’ll have Mohammed sightings in clouds, tree rings, on toasted bread, etc..

Kind of like “Where’s Waldo.”

C&C game, “Generals,”

That game, while delightful, only has the Command and Conquer name attached. I do not consider it a part of the overall world. You know why? No Kane. C&CINO!
