Fantasy realized: Robot zoo opens in Portugal

posted at 2:39 pm on June 25, 2007 by Allahpundit

And as is so often the case, the fantasy far surpasses the reality.

This never would have happened if they’d built in Japan. The Japanese know how to put a robot to use.

Blowback

And the robots will eventually have zoos for humans.

R.U.R.?

Yes, you is.

Me thinks Allahpundit has been replaced by a Replicant of late…

The robot zoo would be awesome for about 2 hours, then kids may get bored with it. Unless they have robot wars, I don’t think this would be worth my time.

Note: I swear, either the Japanese are going to turn into the Jetsons, or Skynet is going to take over the nation of the rising sun.

Will the robotic monkeys throw robotic poo at me?

Domo Origato, and watch the head overflow!

What? 45 Robots confined to a space around 22 m2 with 4 meters at its higher point. This is an outrage! Where is PETR? Better known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Robots…

Respect my robot obsession.

I’m dieing of thirst ovah here!

Worst bartender evah!

Kini on June 25, 2007 at 2:59 PM

What’s the point? Couldn’t you just go see the animatronic exhibits at a museum?

ophelia on June 25, 2007 at 3:01 PM

I believe Allah had to be beaten away from the TV set when the Jetsons came on. Ahhhhhhh….now we know the infatuation with the name ‘Rosie’! It had to be the maid outfit.

I think Limerick is on to something.

Mindcrime on June 25, 2007 at 3:04 PM

Lim, heh.

They totally need a Battlebots league. What ever happened to that? Jamie, Adam and Grant on Mythbusters all used to do that show.

Might be an urban legend but someone said it was ‘too violent’…….it would fit the pattern over there for that to be the case.

can the beer-bot add with marbles? That would make it complete.

Will AP be trampled trying to get an iphone this week?

20-1 odds. Whose taking?

The Portugeuse need to throw in a couple Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots to mix up their cyber-Devonian Sea floor exhibit with its mecho-trilobites and transistorized brachiopods.

(Is that sea foam or beer foam I’m longing for?)

Oh-Em-Gee, I could’ve been drinking that beer about a minute and a half earlier WITHOUT that annoying little robot!

Has it really reached a point where we’re too lazy to actually do the work involved in getting drunk?

Viewtifulgare on June 25, 2007 at 3:34 PM

I want my ‘fridge to give me a cold one without all the chatter. Seriously, It took almost 4 minutes to get a drink out of that thing. I have to wait and be lectured by my fridge now? Where’s my Styrofoam cooler?

Guardian on June 25, 2007 at 3:43 PM

Robots are the best.

VolMagic on June 25, 2007 at 3:49 PM

The absolute perfect post to cut my teeth on. As a newbie I’d like to express my love of automation and beer, automatic beer, robobeer, whatever. My only problem is this silly thing takes way too long to pour a frosty mug of golden joy. I say tap that thing into a a big fat keg an get the party started. I lift a toast to the future of kegbots

bigskinny on June 25, 2007 at 4:13 PM

The robot should have at least crushed the can against its forehead.

mgtanner on June 25, 2007 at 4:15 PM

What, no humping robots? And you wonder why the boss won’t buy you an iPhone.

aero on June 25, 2007 at 4:36 PM

Sorry, that’s way to long to wait for a beer.

maintenanceman on June 25, 2007 at 5:39 PM

No wonder Spain (Portugal) pulled out. Fake rodents. As for Jupan Geeeesh, how long does it take? Don’t drink beer anymore but when I did that thing would have been out the window. Didn’t need a halftime to wait on one. Then again I might have made it to the end of the game. Things are a changing.

mjkazee on June 25, 2007 at 6:44 PM

Nearly 4 minutes for a foamy beer… pass.

BadgerHawk on June 25, 2007 at 9:30 PM

Oh, that is Grade-A spooooky…

Dark-Star on June 25, 2007 at 10:42 PM

Maybe the Japanese are making all those robots to assist their aging population (low birth rates), but I must say, if my robot took that long to pour a drink, I’d probably forget about it–and I’m only 30. A senior would probably walk away and find the beer sitting there the next day, and that robot shouting: “the beer is ready”
