Baseball is best when it's being played. Watching live, watching on TV or internet, listening, playing, I don't care. Actually, playing is best. No sensation in any sport like lining a double down the line with ducks on the pond.

RW, you have me wrong. I bleed Dodger blue, have always loved baseball. I said it was uninteresting to a disinterested mind.

BTW, Dodger rookie 2nd baseman Tony Abreu hit his first major league homer in the 10th to beat the Diamondbacks and regain the lead in the NL West.

I think the US football authorities are probably praying for that amnesty bill. Then maybe you really will have a team.

I think soccer will continue to grow in the US like it or not. As the older generations leave us and the younger generations ( those born in the early nineties and on) grow older soccer will take it’s place. I don’t have a friend or relative who doesn’t have a kid that plays soccer, many of them in fall and spring leagues. I’m neutral on soccer don’t care on way or the other I’m a hockey guy myself. Just as long as the USA wins I’m happy. Anyone know how we are doing currenlty in the curling standings worldwide?

It goes a little deeper than that. When I first started up (about 30 yrs ago) the coaches were for the most part baseball/football guys coaching their kids soccer (some strange sport). After a few generations, those kids (who have played the sport for a while) are the ones coaching. And now with a few levels of professional leagues, more players here with more experience are coaching. It's a process, but the US is committed to get better.

As an aside, I took a coach's course from the KNVB here that was taught by the then Dutch U16 boys National Team coach. To get to our practice field, we had to pass by the baseball diamonds where there was some HS tourney going on. We were walking with the US rep for the KNVB and stopped to watch for a while. The coach turned to the rep and asked "What is this?" "Baseball" was the answer. "It's the most popular sport here." "Oh." said the coach. Then with a puzzled look on his face he swept the field with a pointed finger and asked "Why are all these boys standing doing nothing?"

I don't watch soccer that much, but in this case Im glad we won! Only problem is that, most Americans aren't into soccer or this football like they are American football, so the fans are going to be a lot less. Sweet victory though :)

If it came down to it, you can’t count on alliegance from these people. If we somehow went to war with Mexico, they would already have about a million people already here.

Only a million? more like 20 million plus.... I know thats counting a lot of children, but it would be a heck of a lot more than a million we'd have to worry about. Like sleeper cells but out in the open thanks to the hands off policy.

With as much as Mexico has taken every single opportunity to give us the finger whilst defecating on our lawn.......

This is so bloody sweet.

They don't like us, we don't like them indeed.

An apt summation of how I feel about Mexico.

Patriot33. I’m still confident that South Africa will screw things up so bad that the World Cup 2010 will be here in the states.

I was at the game yesterday.

Yeah South Africa is a mess but I think for PC reasons FIFA will make sure the WC stays in Africa somehow for 2010. We should be up for one soon though either way (we have by far the best facilities and infrustucture in the world, and every game would be packed to capacity no doubt).

And that would have been great to have been at the game (a classic for any U.S. soccer fan), I'm sure you had a great time. Btw folks, it wasn't all Mexican fans, we have a small (but great) legion of fans called Sam's Army that travels to every U.S. MNT game, and there were others sprinkled in the green yesterday as well. It was probably 75/25, which still to me is disturbing because soccer is the only sport that is truly international. So aside from the olympics every four years, I think even for those who don't like soccer should be supportive of the U.S. Soccer team. There is no excuse for the lack of (general) fan support.

I have to admit, I think their talent level is most impressive. They have a couple of players that should be able to play any where in the world.

A number of the guys do play in the top clubs in Europe, and a few that don't (like Donovan) easily could. And I think Feilhaber and Dempsey are stars in the making.

ADHD:

It's really not that bad.
Yes, attention spans are getting shorter; it's why the average American prefers FB or BB over soccer and golf, but it's also what keeps the average American off his ass shaking things up in the market, science, etc.

They used to call it being "driven." Now it's a condition.

Viva la ADHD!!!

I was at the game when the Mexi Fans were chanting "Osama Osama" I will never forget that.

I think Mexico needs a few more earthqakes.

and yet they are arguably the worst professional sports franchise in the history of professional sports.

Jaibones meet Bill Wirtz, owner of the Chicago Blackhawks. Once upon a time, a great hockey team. Now, not so much.

After the penalty on Team Mexico for tripping, I bet the player was disappointed all he got was a yellow card, and not a green card. GO USA!

RW,

With all due respect, Fenway is a piss farm. It may be a famous piss farm, but it's a piss farm nonetheless. I have been attending minor league baseball games in Wrigley Field since 1972, and I know a piss farm when I see one.

As for "Red Sox Nation" ... whatever. Every team that plays in San Diego has more fans than the Padres do, with the possible exception of the Marlins. (They have no fans anywhere, and yet they have won just as many World Series titles in the last 89 years as the Bosox.)

The Cubs might have more fans nationwide than any team in baseball, and yet they are arguably the worst professional sports franchise in the history of professional sports.

The Bosox: one of the legendary teams of failure and futility. Whatever. Get a ballpark.

That's what makes them such a draw. And "get a ballpark"? Are you kidding me? Fenway is one of the most famous sites in sports, period. I don't remember the last time they didn't sell out (it was years ago).

And by the way, have you ever heard of Red Sox Nation? It's not just us New Englendas sticking by our team. You watch away games and listen to the strange sound of Red Sox fans drowning out home team fans. I just witnessed this once again during the San Diego series. It's amazing the following they have.

FANTASIC game, TREMENDOUS goal by Feilhaber, and yes, it was sweet to see the US avenge Miss USA.

Anyone else notice a "si se puede" chant go up about mid way through the first half? I could've sworn that was Lindsey Grahamnesty leading the chant...

Whats funny is that this time around they didnt boo our national anthem or chant osama as they have in past games. Guess they thought it would get reported like the Mexican flags in the left coast marches and it would make them look bad while the shamnisty bill is still alive.

As for sports in general only Football and Soccer are worth watching. Both are exciting and full of strategy unlike baseball and tree hockey (at least college basketball isnt a showboat fest for thugs who cant play defense but its still boring).

Ropera, Oppenheimer is (of course) an idiot, and in this case, a useful idiot for our enemies. The classic case of your example might be Chavez in Venezuela, where we spend an astonishing amount on their oil, and on foreign aid, and he now declares that we are in some sort of war against them.

He, too, is an idiot. But this is how it goes...
