I can’t stand Moore, and he is a fat tub, but c’mon PETA…

Vegetarians weigh, on average, up to 20 percent less than their meat-eating counterparts—meaning less weight-related problems like heart attacks and strokes—and live about eight years longer.

If this isn’t an iffy claim, I don’t know what is. I know a few FAT vegetarians. (A lot of cheese involved.)
Further, there are sooo many variables involved that the claim could never be proven.

Bottom line: Homo sapiens started eating fruits, veggies, (nuts, berries, etc.) ’cause they couldn’t manage to kill something that day!
(BTW: I love fruits and vegetables.)

Answer: if both are located where PETA wish to open a new “chapter”, PETA will immediately place both animal and plant in their huge euthanasia freezer located at PETA HQ, and then issue a press release lauding how PETA “took immediate action to preserve these endangered creatures for the enjoyment of future generations”.

I wouldn’t defend PETA if they offered me a lifetime subscription to the Steak-of-the-Month club (not as if they would).

The statement they make in their letter to Moore is not inappropriate. I’m as amazed as AP at their mention of a personal responsibility angle, but it is valid. When did we forget that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?

Bad eating choices means bad health results, it’s a pretty simple equation. And this is a small piece of the soc*alized health care puzzle that I despise. my family’s burden on the “health care system” is almost nil, but my premiums help cover those that have allowed themselves to develop multiple conditions and require numerous specialists and dozens of medications to stay functional.

A system completely disconnected from all forms of government, and completely pay-as-you-go, would quickly become the least expensive and most efficient health care system on earth. It would also force people to take that personal responsibility that they are so able to shun because my premiums help cover their costs.

India is doing a land-office business by providing *gasp* private pay medical procedures to British who cannot wait 25,000 years for their surgery. Enterprising Indian hospitals are offering medical package deals, airfair, lodging, surgery. They have clients, lots of them.
What does Michael Moore have to say about US doctors treating Canadian and SE Asian Indians treating Brits? Seems the real elephant in the room is the huge fact that private health care systems are the crutch the state-run systems pretend they aren’t using.
