My guess is that most single people not in a relationship are living a mostly celibate life, with occassional excusions into sexual bliss.

I think this is true in the US and other English speaking cultures. Chivalry, romance, and feminism keep women from truly enjoying their sexuality and keep us frustrated. Having lived outside of the US for several years and traveled extensively I can assure you that the rest of the world does not have the same attitudes as we do. Latin culture, Dominican, Brazilian, and Cuban in particular, are much less uptight about sex between non-married people. This casual attitude translates into fewer hangups and better relations between the sexes. It is funny how fundamentalist Christians and feminists have the same attitudes about sexual enjoyment just coming from different perspectives.

I don’t doubt your arithmetic, but I do think if you’re caught in a three month cycle of relationships all your adult life, there’s something wrong with you. A normal person would just get tired of that after a few years. How many times do you want to go on a first date and tell your life story to a stranger? Most people find somebody to marry well within fifty dates, let alone fifty sex partners.

Sooo… how about someone who has been sexualy active for 30 years… but only married for 3 of those?

If you’re a reasonable looking male, and not an idiot, but are selective about long term realtionships (like I am), you can EASILY “rack up” totals above 100… that would be an average of one every 3 months or so, even taking out times you are in long term relationships.

Real key here is that so many more people are SINGLE, and stay that way…

But as I said earlier, either the methodology of this poll is flawed, or its results are very scewed due to lieing, cause the numbers just plain don’t add up….

As to the foreign woman or hooker arguement… women sleep with foreign men as well… and the amount of men who frequent hookers is actualy pretty small (except in the Navy… and even then, both the Philipin base is closed, and even Phucket has cleaned up… USN, Ret.).

What happens when you open the doors to Sexual Disneyland to a bunch of goofy dufuses who can’t get dates back home? They screw their brains out and think they’re King Kong. My speculation is that, patronizing bar girls twice or more per week, the eager beavers in the course of an eighteen month tour could sleep with a hundred women.

You’re not dating anymor, you’re punching a clock. Undoubtedly, there are guys in these unusual situations who are skewing the numbers in this survey. If you are Joe Sixpack and pay a prostitute every payday, you’re going to rack the number of sexual partners, maybe two or three hundred over a lifetime.

As for the women, well, there are lot of them with skeletons in their closets, my friends. I was dating a girl I met at a club back in the days of disco when all of the sudden out of the blue she looks me in the eye and asks me, “Do you know how many men I’ve slept with?” This sounded like one of those questions women ask to which there is no good answer. “Umm, seven,” I said, thinking that was a safe number. “227,” she said. Now, I didn’t believe her but, you know, over the next year as I made the rounds of clubs every guy in them seemed to know her and smile when I mentioned her name. Hmmmm.

So I’m thinking if you’re a halfway decent looking woman with a somewhat dysfunctional emotional background who craves affection, you’re probably going to rack up some big numbers, sexual partner-wise. Take a look around the office and you can probably spot some of those women.

Now, I can see where if you’re a reasonably attractive human being who actively dates and doesn’t get married until you’re 30 you could have a couple dozen sexual partners. However, there’s some kind of invisible line at about 50 partners that means there is something wrong with you. Go past a hundred partners, and we’re talking pathological behavior.

So if you’re a guy who one day draws up a list of the women he’s slept with, as all guys eventually do, I don’t think you’ve lost out if you’re in the single digits. Like so many things in life, quality trumps quantity in sex.

Those noble girls are doing the men that American women aren’t willing to do!

OK… lets say there are approximatly 100 million men and 100 million women ( I know there are slighlty more women than men, but just for arguements sake)…

You take a poll… saying these men have each had 7 sexual partners (average). Women only 4 sexual partners….

Now… multiply it out… men have had 700 million sexual “realationships”…. women 400 million “relationships”… leaving 300 million relationships that were with? Goats? (this aint the mideast boys), other men? (San Francisco factor)?

How can ANYONE take this poll seriously when its numbers are THAT far off due to people either lieing? or it not getting a fair representation of the populace.

Remember, for women, you always multiply the number they give you by 3.

And for men you must always divide by 5.

About 96 percent of U.S. adults have had sex.

I guess by “adults” they mean “Americans over the age of 8″.

But, 2 of my university roommates are married to girls they started dating in the tenth grade. They got married 1 year after college and are doing great (3 weeks between weddings… that sucked). So across the three of us, we’re not that higher than the average of 7…
