Spain might fast-track descendents of expelled Muslims for citizenship

There’s amnesty and then there’s amnesty. It’s their own version of the U.S. “points system,” but with family unification teased out to about 25 generations and offered to members of a culture notorious for irredentism and violent expressions of, ahem, “dissent.”

What could go wrong?

A call for descendents of Muslims expelled from Spain in the seventeenth century to be given preferential terms for Spanish citizenship has highlighted the country’s uneasy relationship with its Islamic heritage.

The proposal was made at a meeting this week in Cordoba, a city in Andalusia which was the centre of Islamic civilization in the Iberian peninsula during nearly eight centuries of Moorish rule of much of what is now Spain and Portugal…

Giving them preferential terms for Spanish citizenship would be an act of symbolic reconciliation, said Mansur Escudero, head of Spain’s Islamic Board, the biggest group representing Spanish Muslims.

“The Andalusians who live in North Africa, most of them in Morocco, in Tunisia, in Libya, they’re part of those societies and aren’t going to want to come to Spain,” Escudero said…

Sephardic Jews, whose ancestors were expelled from Spain in 1492, already have a special right to obtain Spanish citizenship after two years legal residence in Spain, a privilege also available to citizens of Spain’s former colonies.

A small left-wing party, Izquierda Unida, has backed the call for preferential citizenship for descendents of Spanish Muslims. The governing Socialists, who have promoted an “Alliance of Civilizations” between the West and Islam, have yet to give their response, Escudero said.

It’s “symbolic” insofar as there’s no urgent need at the moment for large numbers to avail themselves of the right. Whether that’ll still be true in 10 years is another story. As for why a left-wing party would once again quarterbacking the drive to absorb a huge, unassimilated population, I really just don’t know. It must be a coincidence.

Hey Spain, good luck.

Let me know how that turns out for you.

My husband is Spainsh and I lived in Spain for a long time. We were there when the trains in Madrid were bombed and the whole election upset went down. We said then that the Socialists were going to do a lot of damage to the country and undo a lot of good that Aznar did. We were right. When they aren’t getting back at the Right for winning the civil war, they are going on a massive guilt trip and trying to suck up to everybody – except the Catholice Church – which Zapatero hates. Zapatero still has a year to go…let’s hope he goes away for good after that.

Also:
Izquierda Unida is pretty much the most radical leftist/communist group in Spain. All their leaders do all day is call their opponents names and say the most outrageous things. They are also, thankfully, very small and insignificant. Almost nobody takes them seriously.

Simple Science and Math:

Liberals are breeding themselves into non existance.
Conservatives are breeding themselves into status quo.
Muslims to are breeding at an unprecedented rate.

Unless Muslims start to do a better job at assimilating into other cultures and stamp out radical fundamentalism, the conservatives will be the only ones left around to reap what the liberals have sown.

I’m not trying to get banned, but I don’t know that the science and math get any simpler.

Let’s hope they print ‘Moops’ on the proposal.

Look toward Spain and Venezuela – and see what’s yet possible here – be pure about what freedom and independence really mean. All else is ants, comparably.

Well, that’s one way to speed up the reestablishment of the Caliphate. And how many people will suddenly appear with dubious claims of ancestry?
El Cid did a better job leading dead than these politicians lead alive.

Do you think that maybe Mark Steyn might have a comment or two about this?

Blaise on June 22, 2007 at 2:29 PM

Once Al-Andalus is conquered the Caliphate will almost be complete. What is truly ironic is they are going to be allowed to do it by willing Spanish citizens. It’s weird they would rather be PC than survive.

Hey on the bright side at least the Islamists will have ready made execution grounds- almost every village has a soccer field

But they have to do a touchback in countries they were expelled to and pay back taxes since 1492.

I’m still trying to understand the fascination with Islam being the thing to lead us to utopia. Are the rose colored glasses opaque?

Will there be another Reconquista? And I don’t mean making the SW United States into “Aztlan.” Where are Ferdinand & Isabella when you need them?

wherestherum on June 22, 2007 at 3:15 PM

Well, the next step is for Spain to change its name to Al-Andulus and turn all its cathedrals over to the Muslims for conversion to mosques. Then Spain will beat France to become the first European Muslim state! Allah Akbar!

Maybe I missed it, but which Muslim state is offering citizenship to the Christian descendants it chased out of the Mediterranean basin during the jihad? Will Turkey be welcoming Christians back as citizens? Egypt? The Holy Land? Of course, many of those original Christians were slaughtered, no doubt as revenge for the Crusades which followed some centuries later.

When Spain finishes on that side of the world, how about repatriating some from this side?

Where is Charles “The Hammer” Martel when you need him?

Tim Burton on June 22, 2007 at 5:58 PM

Somehow I don’t think the Poles will be doing this for the heirs of displaced WW II- Germans, ever.

What gives the descendents of medieval Muslim invaders special rights -almost a millenia after you finally eject them- to return to the site of their conquest? (Other than amnesia-riddled Spaniards.)

profitsbeard on June 22, 2007 at 6:41 PM

Why do you “repatriate” a people, whose barbarian ancestors, raided your lands, killed your people, tortured secularists, Christians & Catholics, stole your lands, converted your churches to mosques, forced you to pay a heavy tax, made you live in dread & feer, and raided your treasury???

Why are they given “special” status? What about their victims. Instead these descendants of the Islamic barbarians should just be grateful their ancestors simply were not killed. That would have been the right and just thing to do.

Eventually we will have to kill their descendants.

Here here.

IT creeps it’s way into our institutions, into our media, into our worldview if we aren’t careful. IT must be recognized and repelled before we come to look any more like France than we do now.

IT goes unnamed on this blog if a comment is to slip the filters. IT is what Entelechy suggests liberals be deported into for a two-year period, to learn the truth for themselves that they deny from within the comforts of liberty.
