KP: Liberal talk radio “sucks”

posted at 5:20 pm on June 22, 2007 by Allahpundit

I’m tempted to call this part of her evolution towards conservatism, but it isn’t really. It’s just simple acknowledgment of fact, like my own observation the other day about how pathetically pathetic the Republican presidential candidates’ ads thus far have been. What she didn’t note (since most people don’t know it) is that there’s a lot more liberal talk radio out there than the “Fairness” advocates would have you believe. It’s not that Americans don’t have a choice; it’s that, per KP’s eloquent formulation, liberal talk radio sucks. Stop sucking and you won’t need the Fairness Doctrine.

The guest here is Chris Wallace, by the way. By my count, it’s the second Friday in a row he’s flirted openly with KP on air. If it happens again, the big A’s going to have to go down there and set things straight. Memo to Chris: you’ve made yourself a very powerless enemy, my friend.

Update: As you’ll hear, she insists that Hillary has never publicly called for reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. I googled around earlier thinking that must be wrong, but I confess I couldn’t find anything to contradict her. Did I miss something? Or is this a task Hillary has farmed out to her flunkies, like John Podesta?

Since Allah forgot the exit question, here’s one:

If the Dems win a big sweep in ’08, will liberal talk radio stop sucking, or will they just stop complaining about it?

flipflop on June 22, 2007 at 5:24 PM

Am I overlooking the location of the link?

baldilocks on June 22, 2007 at 5:25 PM

Can’t find it at Radio Equalizer.

baldilocks on June 22, 2007 at 5:26 PM

“where’s the link?”

BobH on June 22, 2007 at 5:26 PM

Ah, a not so minor oversight. It’s the first one in the first paragraph.

Sorry ’bout that.

Allahpundit on June 22, 2007 at 5:27 PM

WRKO put a Lib (former speaker of MA House) on morning drive and he has tanked the stations ratings so bad, one of the oldest and largest talk radio stations in the nation is in a panic trying to find a conservative to pair him with.

TheBigOldDog on June 22, 2007 at 5:27 PM

Or is this a task Hillary has farmed out to her flunkies…

Hill would never be stupid enough to publicly endorse supression of speech. As usual, she’d rely on her flackies to do dirty work like that.

Trent Lott, however…. Well, he’s just a dumbass.

BacaDog on June 22, 2007 at 5:32 PM

I knew it!

Brian Kilmeade runs the world!

BobH on June 22, 2007 at 5:33 PM

Found this article on Townhall.com claiming that she is for reviving the Fairness Doctrine in regards to talk radio. No source, though.

Yeah, saw that. Need a source.

Thanks, AP.

Would you decline to vote for a candidate because his or her ads were mediocre? The Democrats practically own the media. They will always put on slick ads, they have gobs of talent willing to perform for them.
On the other hand … the media industry is putting out crap movie after crap movie, lame TV shows, lousy news … but it all LOOKS good, for a few initial minutes anyway.

naliaka on June 22, 2007 at 5:38 PM

The big A?

mjkazee on June 22, 2007 at 5:38 PM

Is it safe to buy AP an iphone now? He could very well whip it at Chris Wallace out of sheer jealousy; and that’d be a sad sad waste of a phone.

lorien1973 on June 22, 2007 at 5:39 PM

Sorry AP, off topic but just couldn’t past it by. Cheap shot.

mjkazee on June 22, 2007 at 5:40 PM

My wife listens to Stephanie Miller in the morning. (Yes, I am in a mixed marriage.) SM sounds like she is trying to be Laura Ingraham, but without the talent and guests. I have never heard anyone substantial on her show. But, this is a paraphrase of one of her quotes regarding the immigration issue:

‘I don’t like to refer to them as “illegal immigrants.” Thats so dehumanizing. It’s not like they committed a crime and killed someone.’

You can’t make this stuff up.

Mallard T. Drake on June 22, 2007 at 5:42 PM

My goodness – nowhere to fit in the 4% story?

Editor on June 22, 2007 at 5:52 PM

As you’ll hear, she insists that Hillary has never publicly called for reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

The operative word there being “publicly”. Given that her husband blamed the Oklahoma City bombing in part on conservative talk radio, you can bet your pooper that she’d vote for reinstatement of the “fairness doctrine” faster than she could shred an incriminating document.

What 4% story?

LMAO!

Allahpundit on June 22, 2007 at 5:56 PM

4% virg story I’m sure.

KP is great. I hate to say too many nice things about her though because it has to kill her street cred with her crazy party.

Nah, Chris was just dissing Brian mostly. Everyone knows where your turf starts…we’re all just waiting…assuming you’re sitting on a fastball.

Spirit of 1776 on June 22, 2007 at 6:07 PM

KP: Liberal talk radio “sucks”

Well, bless her heart, as my Grandpa would say. And she’s absolutely right. In some ways liberal talk radio is a victim of liberal dominance of the media–why tune in to listen to exact same material you’ll get anywhere else in the Old Media? It’s redundant, plus when you get it off the rado it comes with bonus bile, venom, and hatred.

But it’s hardly fair to be hatin’ on C-Wall for flirting with KP–I mean, I would too, except I’m spoken for. Okay, I probably would a little anyway, just not seriously.

ReubenJCogburn on June 22, 2007 at 6:23 PM

KP is right as most others have said. If more of the dims were as “normal” as her, Republicans would be in more trouble than they are already.
I think Chris is a grandfather (I remember him talking to his dad one time on his show and talking about the new baby in the family) but I’m sure he’s like thousands of harmless older men who enjoy a little flirting with a pretty girl every now and then especially when Mrs. Wallace isn’t around.
As for Allah, she seems like a nice girl and I certainly wish you all the best in your pursuit of Ms. Powers.

Catie96706 on June 22, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Of course it sucks. How could it not? Liberals haven’t had a new idea in thirty years, so are reduced to demonstrating their progressive bona fides by repeating the same ‘Republicans want to start wars, enrich big business, and kill poor people, womyn and gays’ baloney.

Even committed liberals must find that pretty fucking dull.

Martin on June 22, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Reuben hit a homer.

Why listen to a talk radio show that just regurgitates what the news broadcasts have been saying all day?

Back during Bush I, I remember some late night liberal talk radio shows – they were pretty shallow and nothing more than negative images of the other talk shows – I don’t recall any original ideas coming from them, but I had the double whammy of listening to the news AND going to school, so I was getting a double dose of lefty logic before the talk shows came on.

Merovign on June 22, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Stop sucking and you won’t need the Fairness Doctrine.

It has to suck or it’s not liberal.

Nobody ever went broke selling to people what they want to buy.

Rush has 20 million buyers, the reason liberals want the Fairness Doctrine back is to narrow the debate in their favor in one of the only markets that isn’t dominated by their lack of truth and substance programing that doesn’t sell.

A new Fairness doctrine will put Radio stations out of business and that smacks of everything liberal.

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when the only Lib you can find to put on the radio is a disgaced, disbarred, convicted felon. What’s better than to hear all his ass munching lackies call in and refer to him as “Mistah Speakah”.

Alden Pyle on June 22, 2007 at 8:50 PM

Good on KP, when she’s right, she’s right! And quite a pistol too.

I’m wondering if Chris is going to give her an iPhone next Friday?

Zorro on June 22, 2007 at 10:00 PM

Memo to Chris: you’ve made yourself a very powerless enemy, my friend.

That was a 8.0 on the comedy Richter scale, Big A!

major john on June 22, 2007 at 10:32 PM

Allahpundit,

Better bust a move or Chris is going to steal KP right out from under your nose, and then laugh at you…

doriangrey on June 23, 2007 at 10:47 AM

Even committed liberals must find that pretty xxxxxx dull.
Martin on June 22, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Martin , are you thinking this IS liberal radio, or Chaos, or huffpo?

We usually don’t talk that way here…lets keep it clean(er), please. I mean, I’m no one to ask, but a reader also, but please?.!

shooter on June 23, 2007 at 11:31 AM

The reason why conservative talk shows work is that they have built their audiences from the bottom up. Guys like Rush started with a small conservative audience and then built it up.

By contrast, liberal talk show radio seeks to create an audience from the top down. Their talk show program was just like a big centralized government white elephant program. They started out broadcasting across the nation to the big markets. Just like a big dumb government program, it began failing right from the beginning.

One of the underlying reasons that conservative talk radio succeeds is that it is fundamentally democratic while liberal talk radio is fundamentally authoritarian. Their respective approaches to talk radio springs from their respective approaches to politics and governing.

Big deal. If you’re in the same room with her, and you’re not flirting with her, have someone check your pulse.
