Video: McCaskill says she’ll vote no on amnesty cloture

Nays on cloture thus far today: Hutchison, Roberts, Crapo, Sununu, and Cornyn, plus Chambliss and Isakson yesterday. You can add McCaskill to the list. Still not enough yet to kill it but I like this trend. More polls! More robots!

Update: I completely missed this yesterday, but the AFL-CIO now formally opposes the bill.

Update: You know they’re worried about those polls when even an open-borders shill like Bill Richardson is talking tough-ish with Mexico.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democratic presidential candidate, joked Thursday at a town hall meeting in Phoenix, Arizona that Mexico should stop offering a map to its citizens of the easiest way to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

Richardson, who’s mother was Hispanic, says he wants to have a conversation with Mexico and be frank with them on the immigration problem.

“Hey Mexico, why don’t you help your people and do something to give them jobs. Maybe we will do something with you to help create jobs at the border. Maybe joint projects, but at the very least don’t give people maps in the easiest areas to cross,” said Richardson as he acted out the conversation.

Robots. Doing the Job Illegals Won’t Do.

Claire sounds like a thoughtful Democrat……she must be originally from the midwest.

I thought that was a mythical creature like unicorns (don’t tell Gutfield), leprechauns, etc.

She has been a real pleasant surprise in all this. I’ll add Webb and Landrieu to that as well.

SouthernGent on June 21, 2007 at 8:18 PM

Had to be the robots, lol.

Spirit of 1776 on June 21, 2007 at 8:34 PM

Keep fighting the good fight!

Webb is still a sick person though. Anyone who basically says women join the Navy to bag cute sailors will never be okay with me.

Also, I read the linked article but how could the AFL-CIO NOT be against this?

As for Richardson, at least we’ve come to an understanding that official literature on how to most efficiently break the law is not a good thing. Hmmm, why did that take so long?

hollygolightly on June 21, 2007 at 8:44 PM

Who the heck thinks this is a GOOD bill?

Aside from the obvious, that is.

hollygolightly on June 21, 2007 at 8:44 PM

We all know that is not true, that is why women go to college not join the navy.

Don’t give Mary “Bring Out Your Dead” Landrieu too much credit. Since Katrina, New Orleans (a Dem stronghold, whose bio-challenged populace is largely responsible for her job) has had an influx of over 30,000 illegals. ERs are swamped, the schools suck more than ever, and there’s an epidemic of DWI - that, in a city with drive through daiquiri shops… she pretty much has to vote against it. People here are that mad, and much of her old base is now in Atlanta and Houston.

Laura on June 21, 2007 at 8:52 PM

Put the robots on the border! Let them nuke a few real coyotes as a demonstration to the smugglers what could happen to them if they don’t vamos, pronto!

Haha, I’ll assume you were being sarcastic and ask…wait, why did I go through eight years of school then?? Still alone…sigh…what a waste of $100K…

hollygolightly on June 21, 2007 at 8:54 PM

She voted ‘no’ last time too, as well as Kit Bond, our state Republican.

Mindcrime on June 21, 2007 at 8:54 PM

I’m so glad she said amnesty will pad profits for big business. It’s not for the sake of humanitarian interest, Bush, give me a break! No Repub in his/her right mind, and frankly few Dems, could vote for this for any other reason than to get some dough into the pockets of their rich buddies.

Yes on sarcasm. Maybe you should have tried the Navy \more sarcasm

McCaskill is from Missouri and has had problems in the past keeping her campaign promises. IMO, ethics has been a huge problem for her also. She promised she was for secure borders and such when she ran and apparently, she is reading the people of Missouri correctly and knows if she isn’t tough on illegal immigration, she will be a one term senator. McCaskill is as liberal as they come. She is playing this smart. Whether she sticks to her promises or ends up sliding up to Kennedy is yet to be seen.

I just tried to call senator Richard Burr’s office in D.C., but the voicemail is full. I called his Winston-Salem, NC office and was able to leave a message. I will definitely call back tomorrow and insist as a new NC voter he vote against cloture. (I feel so dirty having voted for Mr. Grahamnesty when I lived in SC).

SouthernGent on June 21, 2007 at 9:20 PM

Kay Bailey Hutchinson is on the “no” train too — sure is nice to see Senators actually representing the majority in this.

whtabtbill on June 21, 2007 at 9:23 PM

Christ…. “follow the money” is the last thing I want to hear…

This is now a completely Republican debacle. The Cape Cod Orca will get a free pass on this one.

Way to go Lott, Graham, McCain.

unamused on June 21, 2007 at 9:23 PM

So far, of all the senators, only Ms. McCaskill explains what really needs to be done:

1. “Shut down the magnet”, and
2. “Follow the law and follow the money”

Entelechy on June 21, 2007 at 9:39 PM

My current state of residence, Misery… I mean Missouri… Misery since that liar Claire McCaskill… she ran on supporting the troops and not touching our guns… and fixing the VA… she’s lied about two so far… and just got caught up in the Reed Scandal as it was convenient… I’m there is no real work there on her part… oh yeah, and built herself a new office in downtown Springfield…

and my favorite… voted against funding our troops…

thanks Farm Girl Claire… wouldn’t your daddy be proud? oh BTW hows that whole Tax Evasion, Dead Sr. Citizens in your husband’s state funded nursing homes thing going?

oh this bitch sets me lose… it’s one thing to say your against us, but to say your with us and then stab us in the back… pure evil…

Kaptain Amerika on June 21, 2007 at 10:03 PM

Webb, MaCaskill, Landrieu are voting they way they are is due to the fact that they won their seats in conservative states by narrow margins - also those states have recall initiatives as well.

EricPWJohnson on June 21, 2007 at 10:39 PM

also those states have recall initiatives as well.

We have one, technically, but as a practical matter it’s impossible. Believe me, I know - I worked my keister off trying to recall Aaron Broussard (remember him on Meet The Press?) and Gov. Blanco. Landreiu’s worried about re-election, because her family dynasty is very shaky this generation. Her brother (Lt. Gov.) is fixing to be out of work - if she loses her Senate seat they’ll have to get real jobs for the first time in their lives. Still, she’s bought some loyalty from me for holding the line on this bill.

Question - how many people in states with blue dogs will be crossing party lines as a thank you if this bill dies?

Laura on June 21, 2007 at 10:48 PM

This just keeps getting better and better. I can’t believe I’m actually thankful to Dems…but boy, am I.

tickleddragon on June 21, 2007 at 11:03 PM

So NOW we find out–Landrieu is a racist!! So Katrina might have been an inside job! Call the folks in the New Panther Party–this’ll make the Duke case look like one huge waste of time!!

smellthecoffee on June 21, 2007 at 11:14 PM

So Katrina might have been an inside job!

It was - the Corps of Engineers admitted it. ;-)

Laura on June 21, 2007 at 11:25 PM

Enforce the law and follow the money. Yah think!!! Good job senator.

Mojave Mark on June 22, 2007 at 12:37 AM

Keep up the reports. I want to see if Lama Alexander (Rino-TN) switches to voting NO on cloture. Right now he has stated that he will vote YES on cloture and NO on the bill. Complete hypocrisy!!!

pjcomix on June 22, 2007 at 7:58 AM

Wow! I barely even recognized McCaskill from her photo over here.
