Video: Gravel explains those freaky deaky campaign non-ads

posted at 10:29 pm on June 18, 2007 by Allahpundit

How did a segment as potentially light and fun as this turn into something antagonistic? Here’s wavy Gravy exuding contempt for the talking heads who supposedly can’t grasp his kindergarten-level metaphors while talking head David Shuster, sitting in for Tucker Carlson, struggles mightily to grasp his kindergarten-level metaphors. Thanks to John from Wuzzadem for giving us the heads up.

It’s really high time that America’s Foremost Patriot got in this game too, isn’t it? If you think his libertarian/Truther fanboys are hysterical now, wait until he ups the “enlightenment” quotient by rolling out a few avant garde campaign spots. His rallies will start sounding like early Beatles concerts. Minus the women, of course.

Blowback

David Schuster: my least favorite ‘voice’ on T.V. Seriously. I couldn’t even make it through this clip.

Metaphor, schmetaphor. They were all high.

askheaves on June 18, 2007 at 10:44 PM

Mike, what they see in you is an unstable, maniac.

amerpundit on June 18, 2007 at 10:49 PM

AP, Dood, that first para rocks! I wonder how many readers are old enough to remember Wavy Gravy? The question is rhetorical, but please, anyone, chime in.

cmdrsubfleet on June 18, 2007 at 10:53 PM

How does a liberal know when they’ve made an ineffective ad?

When even David Schuster thinks it’s stupid. Somebody should ask Dave how that indictment of Karl Rove is going.

I’m not old enough to remember him, but I know what he is *shudder*

Damn hippies.

Bad Candy on June 18, 2007 at 10:57 PM

Uh, I’m referring to Wavy Gravy at 10:57.

Fire Walk With Gravy. David Lynch, call your attorneys.

Yeah, the more I hear from and about this clown the more I loathe him. But if he splits that all-empowered Ron Paul bloc I’m all for his shenanigans.

Metaphors only really work when people can understand them.

Perhaps his desire is to confuse. ;-)

History 404:
Pol Pot as Metaphor -Pol Pot and the precipitous American Withdrawal from Indo-Chine as dictatated by Sen. Mike Gravel (D-Alsk)

The heck with the Gravel and metaphors, those teachers have access to our kids’ minds.

Dusty on June 19, 2007 at 12:02 AM

Now I know what “moving on into infinity” means. Was always wondering about that.

AP, in the headlines, posted “Illegals fighting immigration law with fire”. Per Gravel, fire is just a metaphor.

I can’t figure out what’s behind this – acid flashback, or just basic senile dementia. I’ll flip a coin and get back to you.

The ‘two people’ have definitely taken a ride on the ‘magic carpet’.
I don’t know where they teach, but may God help our children!

lsutiger on June 19, 2007 at 2:21 AM

He trusted an art teacher and a technology teacher to craft insipid, valueless videos of “metaphors”, as campaign ads.

The people won’t make the same mistake.

I still think he made bets that he could make two ads that didn’t include a single lie, and him not speaking was the only way to succeed.

Jaibones on June 19, 2007 at 8:27 AM

He is a TOOL, how is that for a metaphor.
Man my high school English Lit teacher would have loved this lame ass

I’ll drink to that.

At the end of the seven minutes of fire video, does Gravel jump out and exclaim, “The Aristocrats!”?

unamused on June 19, 2007 at 11:05 AM

The problem with metaphors is people are free to interpret what they see. My interpretation?

“I’m dumb as a rock and in over my head. So I’ll just go away.”

taznar on June 19, 2007 at 11:19 AM

A fire represents heat and warmth! Whoa, deep!

jdpaz on June 19, 2007 at 11:30 AM

A fire represents heat and warmth! Whoa, deep!

Or fire means pain, consumption and/or destruction. Take your pick. That’s why ads like that are so stupid. They are open to interpretation and interpretations other than the one intended are just as valid. For all I could guess, he was making a statement about burning resources, creating heat and CO2, and global warming.

taznar on June 19, 2007 at 1:28 PM

I likey him – he funny – uhuh uhuh.
Where did I put my bong?
