The only time a Canadian/European/Cuban style healthcare system will be introduced here is if a VAT it passed. This can only happen under a Clinton/Obama/Edwards for president and a liberal House/Senate. See to it that this doesn’t happen in ’08, or at any time, if you don’t wish to live through medical nightmares. No time today to enumerate all reasons – could write you a novel on this topic, and in time we’ll discuss this more.

That’s not to say that our system doesn’t need to be overhauled and made better from many perspectives. Care, however, simply is the best here. Period.

The whole Canadian angle is hilarious. Everybody up here, even the Moore lovers (and there are a lot of them), knows our hospitals suck (the big news this week in Quebec is that a lot of doctors are leaving the province, they're so fed up), yet Moore apparently paints them as a paradise. Here's what I posted over in the Althouse comments:

I'm thoroughly enjoying the build-up to his new movie here up north. Lots of Canadians adore Michael Moore, as he plays perfectly to their anti-Americanism, except lots of Canadians are also fully aware of how awful our healthcare system is. So when they hear that his new movie portrays Canadian hospitals as a sort of paradise on earth, the confused reaction is a pleasure to watch.

I thought the role of a documentary filmmaker was to be objective,

That's the point of a movie with a political agenda, it not a documentary. From the dictionary online.

A work, such as a film or television program, presenting political, social, or historical subject matter in a factual and informative manner and often consisting of actual news films or interviews accompanied by narration.

Which none of Moore's films consist of any facts. People call it a documentary, but that's completely incorrect. It doesn't meet the definition of a documentary. It does meet the definition of a propaganda film, or fiction.

I had a conversation with a very non-political co-worker yesterday who watched this. He already mentioned he took Moores word with “a grain of salt” but he did say he sort of enjoyed the movie and I could tell he was thinking Moore may have made good points.

The comment I made that resonated with him the most was that it was ironic that Moore would go to Cuba, a place where people literally risk their lives to escape, and claim things are better there. When I explained that although I’ve never been to Cuba, people who escaped say the healthcare facilities are horrible for the vast majority of Cubans, and a separate group of facilities is there for the elite and tourists to showcase, he was surprised to hear it. I’m guessing Moore doesnt mention that.

I asked if he would trust a nation who doesnt have an elected leader, wont let his people leave, and people risk their lives by the thousands to get on a leaky boat to try and make it to America.
