Audio: Fred rips Reid, nutroots bloggers “who think we’re the bad guys”

Oh, now. They don’t think we’re the bad guys. They think both sides are bad; they just happen to spend 98% of their time criticizing ours.
Don’t read anything into it.
I can’t decide if I like the idea of him swinging at the nutroots or if it demeans him to even acknowledge them. As a passing swipe within a broader attack on the Senate majority leader I suppose it’s fine. But if he starts fisking Greenwald’s Salon posts over at the Fred File, then it might indeed be time to Explore Huckabee.

Oh, I didn’t interpret that as a direct swipe at the nutroots at all. He was just pointing out, as others have, that the Democrat leadership is being pulled strongly to the left by crazy fringe leftists.
The nutroots themselves may interpret this as Fred throwing down the gauntlet, but I don’t really think that was his intention. I doubt he’ll directly engage them.
aero on June 18, 2007 at 4:13 PM
You’re stretching quite a bit saying that Fred! was “swinging” at the nutroots. That barely qualifies as a “passing swipe.”
I’ve told you a billion times, don’t exaggerate.
rmgraha on June 18, 2007 at 4:15 PM
I love it…naming names and telling it like it is!
DCJeff on June 18, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Never make direct eye contact with a nutter.
omnipotent on June 18, 2007 at 4:16 PM
I think Huckabee would make a great VP for Fred!
DCJeff on June 18, 2007 at 4:16 PM
Forgive me, master. And yeah, I think accusing them of believing the U.S. is worse than the jihadis and also being filthy with Truthers qualifies as a bona fide swipe.
Allahpundit on June 18, 2007 at 4:17 PM
Allah,
I didn’t get that from article. He was attacking Harry Ried. Since there is a known relationship between Harry and his base of nutroots and commies. He is very vulnerable and easily discredited by exposing the nutroots influence on him. It was not an acknowledgment of netroots power but of the idiocy of Harry Reid.
I wouldn’t worry too much about that.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 4:19 PM
Allah methinks you exaggerate a little…it is what it says…no need to spin it.
DCJeff on June 18, 2007 at 4:23 PM
Come to think of it, I sure wish we “wingnuts” had the ability to pull our Republican leaders more to the right like the “nutroots” seem to be able to pull their leadership to the left with ease. How come they can do it, but we can’t? Are we just not crazy enough, or what? Republican leaders don’t give a hoot what their base thinks. I mean, Harry Reid is willing to listen to 9/11 conspiracy loons, but our leaders won’t even give us credit for wanting to enforce existing immigration laws and not reward millions of lawbreakers at legal citizens’ expense. What’s up with that? What are the nutroots doing that we’re not?
aero on June 18, 2007 at 4:23 PM
Zzzzzzzz.
I have a real hard time getting excited about something that HA has been saying for months now.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Thompson/Huckabee ‘08!
CP on June 18, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Well, if freddie boy felt Michael “POS” Moore was worth his time, why not these kooks?
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 4:30 PM
That’s disgusting! Lol, seriously though, you’d think Huckabee could have come up with a word that doesn’t sound so much like “probe”.
RightWinged on June 18, 2007 at 4:33 PM
csdeven,
Ok, we get it. You hate Fred Thompson and have a ‘hard-on’ for attacking him at every posting about him.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Ah, look at the fred? groupies dance around in glee as their hero freddie boy makes a lazy slap at the nutroots. What a laugh, look how they defend him from Allahs critique. Face it groupies, fred? is a joke and fred? will lose and be shown what a vacuous phony he is when freddie boy has to face a real challenge. What a laugh, i can’t wait to hear what you people say when that time comes.
/csdeven
Heh, now that I’ve had my fun, I don’t see it as a bad move to tie the nutroots to the Democratic Leadership, its true after all. Sure, he’s dipping into the feverswamps, but he’s making quick hits then bolting. Its the way to do this, get them stirred up and in a frenzy, and then point to how insane they are. Plus a lot of the nutroots fear the guy. It worked with Michael Moore.
Bad Candy on June 18, 2007 at 4:39 PM
It just hit a little close to home for AP, that’s all.
ej_pez on June 18, 2007 at 4:40 PM
I’m not sure it can be considered a swipe if it’s true. You’ve read DU and HuffPo, do you honestly disagree with the sentiment?
Hollowpoint on June 18, 2007 at 4:40 PM
It was definitely an uppercut to Reid. The nutroots were merely mentioned in passing- simple nuance.
Heh. I crack myself up.
wccawa on June 18, 2007 at 4:41 PM
Well, ignoring the Truthers sure hasn’t paid dividends in the marketplace of ideas. Remember that a significant minority of Democrats are tilting to the Truther point of view. Thompson, and for that matter ALL Presidential hopefuls, should expose them as the paranoid delusionals that they are.
common sensineer on June 18, 2007 at 4:42 PM
Al Qaeda is very unhappy with WTC’s construction progress.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 4:44 PM
By the way, off topic, but where are the once obligatory 1/2 Hour News Hour posts? The show is improving, and it needs more discussion.
I’ll start.
Which is the better comparison to ‘The Daily Show’, 1/2 Hour or Red Eye? I believe Red Eye is, and frankly, it smokes Daily Show. Red Eye is the sleeper hit of the last few months, err, since it debuted.
Is it just me or is Jennifer Lang on 1/2 Hour smoking hot babe?
Schweggie on June 18, 2007 at 4:46 PM
I like the fact that Fred knows about these people. He’s clearly been following blogs closely. To me that just says that he’s “in touch”.
And I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all that he may acknowledge the nutroots exist. On the contrary. Exposing them for what they are, how many of them there are, and the extent of influence they are having on RnP (Reid n Pelosi) is a very good thing.
Like someone above said – calling it like it is.
AlexB on June 18, 2007 at 4:48 PM
I don’t get it AP. First we criticize the GOP for not being blog savy. Now we criticize the GOP for being blog savy?
I appreciate not lowering to the nutroots level, but where is the middle ground?
natesnake on June 18, 2007 at 4:51 PM
Exactly, they need to be called out and exposed for what they really are…part of the problem is that they usually are’nt…
DCJeff on June 18, 2007 at 4:54 PM
I like the idea of Fred in a televised debate against Hillary/Obama and exposing point by point the pandering that goes on with the nutroots and the Truthers.
I think Joe-citizen will appreciate being informed about the fringe left and its control over the Democrats.
It will be the first mass exposition of the left’s lunacy.
natesnake on June 18, 2007 at 4:55 PM
I don’t see why the fred?heads, or anyone for that matter would be surprised at this. fred? has made the internet a huge part of his non-candidacy. What better way to keep the fred?heads whipped up into a lather, than by attacking their counterparts on the left?
Thar is an old sayn’ me grandpapa useta say…..if ya’ll git inter a pissing contest with someone, ya both come out covered in piss. Being a connoisseur folksy colloquialisms freddie boy oughten to be familiar with that thar one. If’n he arn’t, he’s a gonna be raalll soon.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 4:56 PM
The only laugh here is you…if Thompson turns out to look like less than what I expect then I’ll vote for someone one else…it’s pretty simple stuff…
DCJeff on June 18, 2007 at 4:59 PM
Attack the nutroots, demean them, and then tie them to the Democratic party. Either make the party denounce them or accept them. A good stategy. The Dems have coasted on these guys for years, now they have to own them.
Forget about who is saying it, this will hurt the Dems.
Middle American does not want to be associated with these weirdos.
right2bright on June 18, 2007 at 5:02 PM
Another point to counter those who would call this somehow beneath him is to remind them of one of Bush’s shortcomings that we’ve all complained about- his inability or unwillingness to fight back against attacks from the likes of Reid and Pelosi or in favor of conservative principles.
Here we have someone who’s willing to go on the offensive- something Bush seems only willing to do against his own base.
Hollowpoint on June 18, 2007 at 5:03 PM
Fred’s playing it smart. The Dems have been harping on the same “Bush Lied…” message since ‘04, and the voters were finally tricked last election into thinking that we were misled into this war. We can’t take the truth for granted and assume everybody will continue to remember what really happened. People do forget, or have a short memory. And, each year we have a very large batch of new voters who are starting to listen for the very first time.
Rick on June 18, 2007 at 5:05 PM
Why should the nutroots get to flap around under the radar while our own “leaders” call out talk radio as being a bad influence? If Fred can get it said, knock ‘em dead, Fred.
NellE on June 18, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Pssssst, csdeven
Look up here. I’m on the roof. Now hold still.
Stephen M on June 18, 2007 at 5:09 PM
The Netroots are already discredited. All that’s happening here is the discrediting of Senator Harry Reid.
The first sentence is about about Harry Reid. The last sentence is again, about Harry Reid. Remember, he is the Senate Majority Leader who panders to idiot communists on the Internet.
Again, those who subscribe to the bullshit smear attempt at him pandering to Nutroots and then talking down to “Fred Heads” are using leftist tactics that come right out of the communists play books.
Change or distort your opponents original words and intent then criticize and attack them based on new interpretation.
Dehumanize your opponents so no logical discussion can take place.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 5:11 PM
csdeven –
OK, we know you’re not a Fred fan. Can you at least admit that the guy serves up a juicy piece of red meat?
Farmer_Joe on June 18, 2007 at 5:11 PM
csdeven has F!DS.
Mallard T. Drake on June 18, 2007 at 5:15 PM
Of course it is. It’s old news, but accurate just the same.
My advise to fred? would be that if he intends to be a candidate one day, he should not stoop to their level.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 5:16 PM
Enhanced it a little Egfrow.
Most people don’t know what nutroots are. Maybe this will get a few to ask questions, about them and about the ‘leader’ Reaper.
Entelechy on June 18, 2007 at 5:21 PM
Chicken-Fried Hillary couldn’t have said it any better.
Go Fred!
Matticus Finch on June 18, 2007 at 5:23 PM
Entelechy,
I don’t think Harry is the Netroots leader. He is their product.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 5:25 PM
E, I didn’t say that. I said he panders to them whether they’re communists, or not :) All’s well.
Entelechy on June 18, 2007 at 5:33 PM
This is clearly an example of fred? getting down in the muck with the moonbats and truthers. He didn’t need to mention them to bash Reid.
This video is clearly an example of fred? getting down in the muck with Moore and then using a pre-taped video to try to extricate himself from the muck because he was too scared to debate Moore.
It was probably a good thing too. Look how poorly fred? did with Leno and Robinson. If he got any further into the muck with Moore, he’d never got himself out. You fred?heads need to learn to accept that fred? is doing this to keep you guys fired up. Does anyone know how his fund raising is going? Maybe he leveled out and needs to do something to get the cash flowing again?
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 5:34 PM
“csdeven, confused at the term “separating from the herd,” reversed tactics and ended up offending the population of the entire southern United States. Much too late, he realized his mistake. Poor csdeven. May he RIP.”
wccawa on June 18, 2007 at 5:38 PM
This is exactly why all of us should be jumping on the Fred Thompson bandwagon. The guy tells is like he sees it. He is a true conservative that can win this election.
msipes on June 18, 2007 at 5:48 PM
So, you agree that fred? is making a mistake by getting into a pissing contest with the moonbats and the truthers? What about his spat with Moore? Do you see that as a positive way to engender support? fred? started it with Moore, doesn’t it look a little questionable that fred? only wants to rag on Moore through the media, but wont back up what he says to Moore’s face?
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 5:49 PM
For a moment, back to Harry Reid. Martha Raddatz pointed out how ridiculous his Petraeus statement was, but on PBS’ Washington Week, so I don’t suppose anybody noticed but me.
tree hugging sister on June 18, 2007 at 5:55 PM
Reid said these things at the start and when all the troops got there. How can this be…my head hurts.
tomas on June 18, 2007 at 5:56 PM
No, because Moore is willing to construct lie after lie that any one person can’t have enough info immediately onhand to defend against. Conspiracy nuts use that tactic often, and on top of that is what Rush says about moonbat calls, ‘you have to know when to end the conversation or else both people in the argument look nuts’, seems an appropriate consideration in Fred’s spat with Moore, not that you’ll see it that way.
Bad Candy on June 18, 2007 at 5:59 PM
Oh, for heavens sake! I’m not a Fredhead and even I am getting sick to death of csdeven’s relentless anti-Fred rants. It is not often that I allow a single commenter to decrease my enjoyment of an entire blog, but it’s happening here. One person–csdeven–is proving too difficult to ignore with the frequency, repetitiveness, and irritation of his or her Fred-related comments. How many people have to ask you nicely to back off, csdeven? We get it already! As I said, I’m not a Fredhead, but I respect Fred and his supporters. More voices in the public debate can only enhance it in my opinion. I’m thrilled that my fellow conservatives are getting fired up and back in the game because of Fred. And I’m totally open to being convinced that he’s our man. Try to show some respect for your fellow conservatives, csdeven. Maybe you’ll get some respect in return.

Not attacking communism whereever it stands means that those who oppose those who do are also useful idiots
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 6:08 PM
Reid and his ilk are part of the “all power, except ours is corrupt” crowd. It doesn’t matter if Patraeus is in touch or not, it’s enough that he doesn’t have his lips planted on dingy’s a$$.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 6:15 PM
You’re right, I don’t see it that way. I would totally agree with you if we were talking about a commentator like Rush. We aren’t, were talking about a guy who may become a candidate for president.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 6:19 PM
It is time, finally, to call a spade a spade. This Reid business has been going on far too long. We all know he is part and parcel of the tinfoil hatted leftist loon brigade so we should even try to pretend otherwise. I personally thought Fred was too reasonable.

Allah, you can call a road apple a road apple; it’s there, it exists, it causes others in the parade to either swerve to avoid it or to wear it on their spats. (Old marching band euphemism.)
To identify the problem is not to wallow in it. It’s to point out shortcomings of our Senate majority leader — who is a living example of the Peter Principle in action.
Tennman on June 18, 2007 at 6:51 PM
Allah. One of the problems with Bush 43 is that he never hits back. We need somebody who will hit back when hit. We Republicans need a pit bull not a standard poodle.
Mojave Mark on June 18, 2007 at 7:14 PM
So, Reid was talking to Rosie? Alec Baldwin? Charlie/Martin Sheen? Or was it Ron Paul?
There are Americans who think we’re the bad guys. There are Americans who think 9/11 was an inside job. And they do have a “home”, as it were, among the lefty netroots crowd. I’m not seeing an exaggeration.
Freelancer on June 18, 2007 at 7:17 PM
This is really going to piss of the Anti Fred-Head coalition here on these threads.
Egfrow on June 18, 2007 at 7:26 PM
Yeah, Fred gave Dingy Harry a short jab to the nose over this. Will Reid stand and fight or run home to momma? Maybe I missed it, has Rudy taken Reid to the woodshed over his remarks, has Mitt?
Note to the candidates… I want a President who slaps down the other side more often than he kicks his base in the teeth.
Buzzy on June 18, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Oh he means to all right. Just as Queen Nancy meant to encourage our enemies by going to Syria. They are not stupid enough to not know.
They are doing it deliberately and with full knowledge in order to encourage our enemies and discourage our men in the field.
As far as I’m concerned its called Treason.
CrazyFool on June 18, 2007 at 9:01 PM
Why would that piss off the anti-non-candidate fred? group? We just want the unvarnished truth.

From your article’s link:
.
Woodward compared the lead up to the Iraq war to Watergate and moans about clarity and closure. Clarity and Closure?
Then is hailed a hero for giving up information about White House Recording systems to the press to allow the Left to soon take over the White house and the senate for many years to follow. Sure, I think he’s credible and so is the Washington Post.

Shrillery and the gang pander to the nutroots…which is a good reason for Fred to attack them. We need a fighter!
lynnv on June 19, 2007 at 8:22 AM
Fred! was way too nice. The fact is that Reid is either a sinister evil man who is working hard to purposefully bring on the downfall of America, or he is unbelieveably stupid. In either case, he needs to be removed.
